Episode Transcript
[00:00:03] Speaker A: What's up, everybody? This is Rome. We have Jason Aaron and this is sources from the sofa doing a full weekend recap. We got NFL, college football, Major League baseball playoff, postseason in action.
Jason repping his team from head to toe. We have a little F1, which was really annoying, trying to stay up for that one. We'll get into all of it, but first let's just jump into the baseball playoffs because Jason's team jumping out to a 20 lead the White Sox over the Cleveland in Duh. They're always Indians. To me, the Guardians. I feel like they've had bad luck since they changed to the Guardians.
We just watched Yankees lose back to back.
[00:00:50] Speaker B: Have they even won a playoff series as the Guardians?
[00:00:53] Speaker A: When was Francona the GM there? Where? When they should have beat the Cubs? Were they guardians?
[00:00:59] Speaker C: That was 2016. I think they're still the Indians then.
[00:01:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:03] Speaker A: Yeah, that was it.
The curse of the Guardians. But lots of action happening. Aaron's team, the Braves, tied my Dodgers yesterday in a bullpen game. Wasn't happy about that. It's gonna be pretty fun for game three tomorrow when this pod comes out. But so much action. We've already gone through the wild card. We didn't really talk much of it besides on the sofa, wise guys pod.
And then we're already two games in most of these games now.
Jason, how you feeling? I know we're taxing, talking shit.
We won't say it on the poll we said.
But you're pretty excited.
[00:01:40] Speaker C: Stoked. Rome, I mean, couldn't have gone any better these first two games in Cleveland. You know, broadcasting live across the street from progressing aggressive field here in Cleveland.
Yeah, couldn't go on any better. White Sox, I mean, they've just had timely hitting, they've had great pitching. They're doing it away. They're not even using starting pitchers or they're not using them in a traditional manner. They're really going at basically like a bullpen game. Although they bring their ace out in the middle of this game today just to throw five innings in the middle of the game.
[00:02:14] Speaker A: And that was crazy.
[00:02:16] Speaker C: Basically shut out. You know, he had gave up one run late, but yeah, it's. It's been the best start, you could say. We didn't talk about the wild card round, but the White Sox defeating the Astros and two owned that game. They led the entire way in that Astros, you know, two game series and then go to Cleveland and, you know, Cleveland's been the class of the American League Central for, I think since the AL Central has been inception. I think they may have 14 or UCSO Aeramanian, check my math on that. But they may have 14 Al Central titles. They have the most. They pretty much win every year. I think they have three straight right now. They are always a team that just beats the White Sox. As a White Sox fan, you're just waiting for Jose Ramirez to hit a home run at any moment when he's up and this series has just been just been dominant from a White Sox perspective and we're looking. I don't want to get too into this right now from a stat perspective Rome, but the White Sox are looking to clinch a series at home for the first time in 126 years this upcoming Wednesday.
[00:03:17] Speaker B: Oh wow.
[00:03:18] Speaker A: Oh wow.
[00:03:19] Speaker C: It's been since the 1908 World Series. I think it was the last time that they've done that. So we are on the present history.
[00:03:27] Speaker A: So they did everything on the road with Guillen then, huh?
[00:03:31] Speaker C: Yeah. Well they clinched all those series were clinched on the road. You know they won the game, that wild card series in Boston, the famous El Duque game.
Know they swept the Red Sox. El Duque got the bases loaded jam.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: That cost a lot of money. I remember that.
[00:03:43] Speaker C: There you go then by our hometown. They defeated the Angels that year in the ALCS in five. But they won that game in in Anaheim in the clincher. And then in the World Series they swept the Astros and went on in Houston. So yeah, this will be the first one at home. I will be there in person. So I'll be giving you the recap on that one as well. It's going to be a blackout game as it was five years ago in the 2021 Division Series versus the Astros where they actually won that game in Game 3, ultimately lost the series. But then the famous Blackout Games, the 2863rd game that was versus the Twins, one nothing gem of a pitching performance in the Jim Tomey solo home run. So it's going to be electric, man. A lot of shade. I don't want to say a lot of shade, but I think Buster only said on ESPN that the White Sox guarantee rate field was the out of the eight teams remaining was the lowest home field advantage. I think there's going to be a point to be played. This place is rocking like I I can't even tell you being in person what the south side of Chicago is like in a playoff game literally going into this series just for this specific game. I've been waiting five years since that last game It's a drug, Rome. Whatever you think of drugs, you get out there, goosebumps will be flowing. It won't matter. It's going to be. It's going to be a raucous atmosphere. They're up two zero, ready to clinch this thing. Head to the ALCS out of this. It's going to be on fire.
[00:05:02] Speaker A: Are you taking time off work?
[00:05:04] Speaker C: Obviously. Rome, are you.
[00:05:05] Speaker B: Are you touring? Are you touring the whole White Sox playoff series?
[00:05:09] Speaker C: Well, I. I don't think I have that type of time, but I do have a. One of my. One of my family members lives in Florida and is like, hey, Tampa's up two. Oh, ALCS starts on Monday. I can, you know, we can fly and hit it. I was like, I think I need to go back to work at a certain point.
[00:05:24] Speaker B: Stay in Tampa, go back to Chicago. Don't worry. You ain't got to come back to la because it's going to Georgia for the World Series, and we'll meet you there.
[00:05:31] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
[00:05:32] Speaker C: Okay. Okay.
[00:05:33] Speaker B: When we talk. We talked about three, four months ago, White Sox. We did. We called it then. It's really on the table right now.
[00:05:40] Speaker C: We did. I got, I got. I just got a lot of friends and that are, you know, got a lot of teams remaining. I, you know, there's a Yankees fan in the mix. See, obviously, you at the Braves, so many Dodgers fans. So everyone's very happy for me because I don't get to. I don't get to celebrate from a baseball perspective very often. So, like, I'm kind of like the. I'm the little brother or somebody that never got their way. And so now I can finally have happiness in rooting for a baseball team. So everybody's very supportive, wanting me to be in, but people want to go to games with me right now, like, oh, like, yeah, we'll go. They're playing the Yankees. Let's go to New York.
[00:06:10] Speaker B: You.
[00:06:10] Speaker C: You want to go to Georgia? You know, Dodger fans are probably hitting me up. They want to go to la. So we'll see.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: All right. So, Jason, in case we didn't tell everyone he's in Cleveland right now, he flew out for the games and caught some really nice.
You had some great seats, man. You had some great seats. You took some photos with. With a couple players today, right?
[00:06:31] Speaker C: I did, yeah. Post game, huge White Sox contingent was out there, was right behind the White Sox dugout. And, you know, a couple of players after the game were, you know, chatting up probably some friends and family that read the Game, too, and, you know, very gracious with their time. Able to snag a photo with Braden Montgomery, who had the big two RBI double that put the White Sox ahead three two in the game. You know, a huge moment for him. And, you know, he's, you know, one of the three players the White Sox got in the trade for Garrett Crochet. This basically remade their entire team. You have three starters on this team that were from the deal for Garrett Crochet to the Red Sox. So, yeah, but yeah, Braden, massive hit and yeah, this team keeps going.
[00:07:13] Speaker A: Yeah, I know. The Guardians got to run what like, what was like the eighth inning and then they basically got what it was like, what, five, six pitches to get the order out of the White Sox. And bottom of the ninth, they just couldn't get anything done. You guys got them out just as quickly and it was like. And that was it. And that was it.
[00:07:33] Speaker C: I wish it was as simple as you said. Yeah, they did have the 42 lead at that point. And then former former angel top prospect Joe Adell hit a bomb that I thought for sure was out of the park. Missed it by a few inches off the wall in kind of left center area. Able to score the run. Go 4 3. Odell got a triple on that. Biggest hit for him. He had, he had the golden sombrero in game one. He struck out four times. First White Sox pitching. He was, he didn't have a hit so far in this game. And that was a massive moment. I thought it was gone. Thought it was game right then and there. They're able to, they're able to stop them. Stay at 4:3. It was a quick ninth, but I'll tell you, the Guardians got a hold of two of those balls. The final ball. Brenton Doyle, the White Sox center fielder, almost basically had to scale the center fielder wall to make the final out of the game. So it wasn't without like, tension, like, I'll say, like there was strain on the heart. I probably aged a little bit there, but I think the, the euphoria, that was the victory and being up to. All right now, taking two in Cleveland just can't, can't match it right now.
[00:08:34] Speaker A: Yeah. Once again, I, I, you know, there's a reason why they banned putting TVs in cars. And I have like my phone on the dashboard. YouTube TV like, oh, sh.
Almost railed off the road a few times, but pretty amazing.
Padres down a two zero hole. Pretty tough. They got kind of jipped in the first game.
Home run that hit, you know, why are they building stadiums where the ball can hit anything of obstruction? There's like lots of engineers. We built Eiffel Tower and there's pyramids. There's like millions of years already existence of buildings. Like, why the hell is this happening? It's kind of stupid.
[00:09:14] Speaker C: Well, it's crazy. Did you see the video? They had like an aerial shot of the two managers and the umpires before the game when they're doing kind of the pre game instructions. Did you see that Rome?
[00:09:24] Speaker A: No, no.
[00:09:25] Speaker C: So the umpire is going through the rules and basically it's like if it hits the roof in fair territory, it's in play. If it hits a foul, it's out. And the. The brewers manager makes a joke like, I've been here for 12 years. Never has happened. It's going to happen tonight. Sure as hell does happen at one of the most critical moments. I don't know the last time that stadium's actually got one of those. You hear. You hear that a ton in Tampa Bay at the trot. Like happens all the time. Because they catwalks. Yeah, they got catwalks and all sorts of crap in the outfield that were over there. But yeah, crazy way to end it.
Again. I had friends at that game too. I had a friend from Milwaukee that was at that game too. And he was like. And just talking through it. He said it wasn't going to be a home run. I thought it was, but I think there was a lot of Rome. You love the AI generation and generated models. There was a bunch of AI thing based on the bat speed and the launch angle and stuff. They said it wouldn't have been a home run, but that thing was to the moon.
[00:10:22] Speaker B: It's hard to say it wouldn't be a home run. I mean, it was what, 105 miles per hour off the bat?
High as hell.
[00:10:29] Speaker A: That was hot.
[00:10:30] Speaker B: So, I mean, look, I don't know. They can, they can calculate it and say. But I think we talked about on the text thread, I don't know how any ball that doesn't. That hits any object in the field or in the stands or whatever is just not a dead ball and just continue the at bat. I mean, that's why they have the, the nets up now. If a foul ball goes and hits the net, you can't catch it off the net and just have it rolled down into your glove. That's considered fou. Right. Jason mentioned, you know, the trop. The trop's kind of weird because if it hits, I believe at a Certain point in fair play, it's automatically a home run because it went beyond a certain point at that ballpark.
[00:11:05] Speaker A: Right.
[00:11:05] Speaker B: I don't know if they have that rule at brewers ballpark. They were mentioning something that they might. I don't know.
[00:11:12] Speaker C: They don't. I mean it hit. When you looked at the replay, it hit like basically a pipe like this big, you know, wasn't huge, versus like at the trot they have a massive catwalk that's almost like a wall kind of up there. So I think that's why they deem it a home run. But yeah, I agree with you. Rome just baseball, it's weird to have this. I mean you get this at AT&T Stadium with Jerry Jones's massive scoreboard too. The punters like banging off the scoreboard every once in a while over there too.
[00:11:36] Speaker A: So let's imagine like basketball courts. Everything was like kind of different. Oh, the three point line is like from 36ft at this court. You know, it makes no sense and it irritates me. It's the only sport with different fields, different things happening.
Only thing unison is a diamond. That's it.
[00:11:54] Speaker C: I love that about baseball. I mean, I'd be going to Cleveland. This is my first time heading to Cleveland. This dude. And a really nice ballpark. I really enjoyed myself like. But the different dimensions of that in the outfield, they got this bigger wall in left field, kind of, you know, different thing, different part in the right, you know, the, the up. The upper deck, just not the field of play, but just the way the upper deck was made and stuff. Almost kind of like little like loft type things over the top of the standing room only seating and stuff like that was thing like I love that part about baseball, the different kind of aspects of it. But I think there was, there was game one of the White Sox series, not to dive up, but Tommy Pham, you know, legendary guy, he hits a home run and I think the thing was like, it would have been out of like 28 of 30 stadiums or something, but he got robbed basically of a three run homer in game one. And I think those are the things, man. Everything comes into play.
[00:12:41] Speaker A: I think Bellinger just hit a pretty big hit down in Tampa. It would have been a home run in most spots and it was an out. So pretty tough.
Pretty tough.
All right, really quick, before we move on to football, how deep of shit are the Padres and the Yankees? Down oh two right now. I guess the Guardians too as well.
[00:13:03] Speaker C: I think starting with the Padres, I think they're probably the deepest because you got it. You got after their best player. You, Mason Miller, probably the best closer in the game. I mean, I will say he is Rome because he was closer of the championship winning.
He haw three of the River City League off, you know, the famous champions of fantasy baseball this year. So he was. He was already a championship closer for me. But yeah, I think the brewers getting to him in the ninth is something psychological right there. And I would say the Padres are probably the deepest on there.
The Yankees.
I feel the Yankees have the firepower to potentially come back, but at the same time, people underestimate the race. I think this is. This is a team that probably should have won a World Series.
They have just their process and everything. They do things that, you know, they got great players, fundamentals all the way around. They find the little things. This is a really good team. They probably been the best team in the American League the entire season. And so you get to them to the point now, I think the Yankees are pretty much done for at the same time, too.
Yeah, I would say I'd be both scared for the Padres.
[00:14:06] Speaker A: I like the Yankees going to the World Series, but it's the same thing that's been plugging them or plaguing them just fundamentally, they're just not there. Although they can hit home runs, they have a great pitching staff.
So what they.
[00:14:17] Speaker B: They make what, three errors in the first inning of this game?
[00:14:20] Speaker A: That was bad, dude.
[00:14:21] Speaker B: Yeah. So, I mean, you know their defense, bro, like you mentioned, and errors have been a problem for them. I'm not too concerned. I think both Padres and Yankees can get it back to game five. I think the Guardians are done. They're going to get swept. They just probably, postseason wise, they have not scored any runs. The Padres. But look, it's. But the Padres messed up is you don't bring your closer out. Mason Miller, he has been the best closer in the game. Congratulations, Jason, on winning the River City League. I know I wasn't on that show.
[00:14:48] Speaker A: Yeah, congratulations.
[00:14:49] Speaker B: Congrats. I'll get the trophy made up for you. You know, you can. You can buy me a steak dinner at Cisco and whatnot. We can call it even.
[00:14:56] Speaker C: All right?
[00:14:56] Speaker B: But, yeah, look, the guy never pitched two innings all regular season. They throw him out there. 1, 2, 3, 8. The ninth inning, you know, you know, there's mentioned something in the message boards and stuff. Maybe he was tipping his pitches, maybe not. But a lot of walks. What do you have three walks in that inning before cheerio got that game winner. You can't walk guys. That's the number one rule as a reliever, especially as a closer. Never want to get free bases by walking guys.
So if they can keep him from going two innings, which it sounds like they're going to do, they'll be fine. Yankees at home.
Tampa is underrated, like Jason said. I mean, we. I don't follow the American League a lot, but I think a lot of people, if the Rays and White Sox end up advancing, which looks like they might, that, that would be very interesting series that, you know, it's two small market teams moving on, huh?
[00:15:45] Speaker A: This guy's an ass.
[00:15:46] Speaker C: No, he's, he's. No, he said raising white. He said
[00:15:52] Speaker B: if the Braves win tomorrow, I do believe they will advance.
I think if they win tomorrow and beat Yamamoto, they'll beat the Dodgers, I think in four and they will advance. But you know, like I said, Roma, talking to you, the Braves, they match up well. They've always played the Dodgers well in the playoffs. Every time they've made this, always gotten 5, 6, 7 games depending on the
[00:16:11] Speaker A: length of the series, especially when the Dodgers are injured.
[00:16:14] Speaker B: I mean, what. All they got is Ohtani, Andrew Rome, that's it. Everyone else is pretty much healthy, man.
[00:16:20] Speaker C: They got like, they got like nine all. They got nine all star starters with a bunch of Cy Young guys, but dear God, one guy's not in the rotation is the end of the. Like the White Sox. The right Sox don't have a starting pitcher. They're just rolling out bullpen games every day right now.
[00:16:34] Speaker B: The White Sox can hit, they can hit and they got timely hitting. And that's kind of the key in the postseason. Can you get clutch pitching and can you get timely hitting? Right now the teams that are doing that are the brewers and the White Sox. The best right now. So who knows, maybe that could be your World Series matchup.
[00:16:49] Speaker A: Sweet deal. Let's transition over college football or NFL.
[00:16:54] Speaker B: Might as well get college football out of the way real quick.
[00:16:57] Speaker A: Let's do some college football football.
New AP25 just came out this past weekend. I was talking to Aaron a little bit earlier today.
Lots of jokes and criticism going around the world over who's ranked where.
Some teams did not get knocked off nearly as much for big losses. Some teams got rewarded. So it just doesn't make sense. I've been trying to get Aaron to put out his own top 15. We'll see if he has the cajones to do that soon.
[00:17:26] Speaker B: I revealed my top 15 to you earlier, Rome. Did you not Write it down.
[00:17:29] Speaker A: I'm not writing it down. You gotta write it down.
[00:17:32] Speaker C: Where's the 15's a weird number.
[00:17:35] Speaker A: Rome.
[00:17:35] Speaker C: Like colleges, we do a top 25 ranking. Generally it's a top 10. But you're just like, okay, I'm gonna do top 15. Where's. Where's the 15 to come from?
[00:17:42] Speaker A: That's where Aaron felt comfortable with. I don't know.
[00:17:44] Speaker B: No, we, we talked 10 and then we kind of looked at it. The top 10 seemed boring, so we wanted to go to 15, do top 50.
[00:17:51] Speaker A: I don't care.
[00:17:52] Speaker B: Hey, okay.
[00:17:55] Speaker A: College football, though. Pretty big upsets. Michigan loses again.
If you guys did not see those post game celebrations, man, the coach was epic in his interview on the field. Drinking out a little brown jug and then getting like a crowd wave in the locker room. That was phenomenal. Phenomenal. Phenomenal. Without that Western Michigan win, Tabby 1 and 3 easily.
Alabama looks dominant. Actually probably the best they've looked since Saban under DeBoer. So he's probably staying put for the time being. I know Aaron has some theories around that.
What else? USC didn't really come out swinging. Lots of people calling for Lincoln Riley to be fired out in la.
They barely escaped from Washington. Aaron, I know you have some comments on that. Florida destroyed Ole Miss just last week just to get destroyed this week. Lots of weird stuff happening. We don't know what the hell is going on.
What was the biggest game of the week, the biggest surprise.
[00:19:00] Speaker C: I'm looking forward to what Aaron said because you mentioned coaches on the hot seat. I really.
[00:19:04] Speaker B: We.
[00:19:05] Speaker C: When Aaron wasn't here a couple weeks ago, we talked about that, about Aaron's hot seat for coaches. So I didn't know if that segment is today or we're going to save that for a couple of weeks from now because, yeah, you. The Lincoln Riley thing. I had some Texas and some other chains and I'm like, oh, man. I was like, I. I really want to hear Aaron's hot seat for college football right now.
[00:19:21] Speaker B: Well, Rome, I mean, I think you have that hot seat. Coaches out. Look at. I gave you a couple names. I mean, there's some guys that got some big wins. I mean, Lincoln Riley, nice little win over Washington. They go to Penn State, which look did not look good Friday night against Northwestern to see if they can bounce back in, which will be a wide out, I believe, at Penn State.
You know, the hottest coach on the hot seat. Look, Mike Norvell, I think I text you guys Friday, take Florida State moneyline. I told you they were going to beat Virginia Rome. You said that was a stay away from you. But they destroyed Virginia. Huge win for the program. They're now on Friday night against Louisville, a team that's struggling. We'll see how that goes. But I think the coach that I mentioned earlier, Dion, what is going on with Colorado? Did you hear about their playbook ending up at a bar?
[00:20:06] Speaker A: At a local bar? It was left of the bar. It was the first few plays of the first half as well as the
[00:20:11] Speaker B: second half, and they were the exact same plays.
[00:20:14] Speaker A: Everything is so weird, man. Like, whatever. I don't know. I thought Dion was like, recruiting. You have the celebrities in year one, you know, the Heisman winner, his son playing phenomenal. And then those two guys leave and then they kind of back to being Colorado again. It's like, what happened to all the hype? What happened to all the celebrity fanfare? What happened to all the big time recruits that want to play for him? Warren Sapp was on the staff as well.
[00:20:38] Speaker B: He kicked him off. He kicked him off. I don't know. He got rid of a lot of these guys.
[00:20:41] Speaker A: Yeah. It's crazy. Oh, no.
[00:20:42] Speaker B: So Dion's days are numbered in Colorado. Whether it's this, I believe this year, I think he'll just retire. He's got enough health issues anyways.
[00:20:49] Speaker A: He was pretty testing the post game again, and he was kind of challenging the. The press that kind of like, you guys already know why you write the story. It's like, dudes, like, you're the coach, man. Just like, I don't know.
Didn't really sit well with me. I think he's definitely done after this year. Jason, you're Notre Dame. I should have picked North Carolina. This is our first real test, really, because that defense is really phenomenal in North Carolina. And I wasn't sure if they're just going to come out and blow them out or North Carolina's going to give him a run for the money. They stayed close, would have definitely covered. And then Penn State, as you guys know, we're part of the Westgate super contest for college football.
We're not doing as hot as we were doing last year. Let's put it up. But we also had some really tough losses that we didn't have last year.
But when we're looking at our picks in totality, man, we're at least like seven to 10 wins that, that we should have got. So when I was talking to Aaron, that would put us like, at top right of the contest. But that's not the case including I didn't like to pick Penn State against Northwestern.
Now I didn't know at the time I just like Northwestern because Aaron turned me on and we did like a a little post on the socials but I didn't know it was going to be the opening of their new stadium.
No chance that that was going to cover and it was amazing. They got their ass beats. Did you guys watch that game?
[00:22:13] Speaker B: I did watch Romeo's.
[00:22:15] Speaker C: I did not. Obviously I chose the wrong team.
[00:22:17] Speaker A: So it's all good. It's all good.
[00:22:19] Speaker B: Well I think the bigger thing is the curse of the the three picks. We have not had a winning record of the person picking three games yet.
So Rome you will be up this week. Hopefully you can end that.
But yeah, I mean it's, it's something that hasn't bode well for us and Penn State on and another thing too is Romey touched on it too on the text thread. Friday night games. If we win a Friday night game the week goes well. If we lose it goes bad.
Remember if you go back to week one, Jason had Miami over Stanford. It was a blowout win. It was a good week. You know and then I think I had Cal the week before against Clemson. A loss, bad week. And then last week so we got one go.
[00:23:01] Speaker A: We got a four out of five. Oh man.
[00:23:04] Speaker B: So Friday I think Fridays either stay away like you mentioned Rome or we got, we got to hit it and we hit it. I think it leads to a good week.
[00:23:13] Speaker A: Well, I sent you guys some stats. Apparently we're not good with with the mid on, you know dog so maybe we can take a take a look at that. But any games that kind of stuck out to you guys surprises happy with where your teams are going. I know UCLA had a week off. We had a big game this week against Oregon. Looking forward to that Texas play. Nobody nor Dame.
They look really good. They look really good.
[00:23:40] Speaker C: I think C.J. carr looks good right now. I think there's some questions probably in the rest of the team right now. Obviously you'll hear it all season until Notre Dame plays probably Miami. But I mean they got some you know, hard games against BYU and SMU over there too. But yeah, I think CJ Carr is really where that where the team goes right now whether it's kind of up or down.
Yeah, you mentioned Rome being back and forth in the Notre Dame, Notre Dame or North Carolina of it all too. It felt like to me I was like man this is one of those things where the line's A little bit too big. And it was kind of what I always thought about Belichick in college. He's been obviously a massive disappointment, but I always thought he'd have enough where like he knows the coaching, like little things to make sure this team's always kind of being competitive and that always has been true. But I felt very versus Notre Dame, the North Carolina team a little better this year.
Notre Dame hasn't impressed as much in some of these weeks or they just haven't get some drives going. But I mean I still feel good about it. I still think Notre Dame is a really good team. I think they have maybe the best quarterback in college football. If not, he's in like the top three or four right now, but I think that's, he's. Notre Dame's gonna be riding his shoulders all year because in previous years you had, you know, two NFL first round picks able to carry the load and they just don't have that guy right now.
[00:25:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean they're running back situation. They don't run the ball very well. Defensively they're really good. But I think Notre Dame's just bored. I mean you're playing against teams that they should be. I mean I. Out of the five games, what is nording five zero right now?
[00:25:13] Speaker A: They are, they've had like a lot of good.
[00:25:16] Speaker B: They've been, I want to say, correct me if I'm wrong, Rome, they've been double digit favored in every one of those games and probably three of the five at least 20 plus point favorites.
[00:25:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:25:26] Speaker C: Yes. Yeah.
[00:25:27] Speaker B: So I mean they look at. Their schedule's been soft. We talked about it, we joked about it. But they do, they do have BYU coming up. Not this week, but the following week. That will be a big game. BYU will be undefeated this week.
[00:25:38] Speaker C: I think it's -37 and a half.
[00:25:40] Speaker B: Yes, I think I did see that.
[00:25:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
I mean the way Stanford's looked, I don't know. It's really tempting to still take that.
[00:25:53] Speaker C: Well, it is, but the problem is like if Notre Dame just like doesn't take it seriously or they, hey, they got out to a fast start and then just kind of drain the clock. Like it's, it's just, it's a big spread to be going up against. Like it's, it's a win, but it's, you know, that's 37 and a half's a ton of points.
[00:26:07] Speaker B: Yeah, 37 and a half's a ton. And like, you know, it's a scrimmage game because they got byu. They got to come out to Provo. I believe the game's in Provo, right, Against byu. It's a road game for them. Yeah. So they got that game set up. It'll be a big game. BYU is going to be looking to prove themselves as a team that can get into the at large playoff or even win their conference. We'll see how things go.
You know, you touched on an earlier Rome. I mean look, Florida had been the, the darlings early of the college football season. They'd been lights out, looking great.
Look at Missouri's a good football team, you know.
[00:26:39] Speaker A: You know, I heard complaints before the week though that it was a joke that they were even still ranked.
And then bam.
Oh, a lot of college football.
[00:26:47] Speaker C: Missouri.
[00:26:48] Speaker B: Missouri.
[00:26:49] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was a joke.
They came in, put a smackdown 45 to 17. Probably like one of the bigger surprising defeats of the week.
[00:27:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean the way they won, I mean look, Missouri should be, it should have been undefeated. They had Mississippi State beat the week before at Mississippi State. They had a seven point lead with about six. Seven minutes ago in that fourth quarter, Mississippi State came back and covered the game. Screwed me in the west gate in my own personal selection when I had Missouri plus five and a half or whatever it was.
But Missouri, Eli Drinkwoods is a really, really good coach. Yeah, and that quarterback Simmons is good. I mean, look, he was old Lane Kiffin's guy at Ole Miss before he got hurt. And then Trinidad Chambliss kind of ran with it. This guy transfers to Missouri. I believe he's either tied or leads the NCAA Division 1 touchdown passes. He's got a big arm defensively. Missouri's underrated too.
Missouri's kind of one of those teams in the SEC that always goes like 8 and 4. We never talk about them being one of the top four teams because they're always kind of between like six and eight. But if you go there and schedule just lined up perfect.
Florida got blown out. I'll tell you this week. Florida's a 14 point favorite this week at home. They're going to blow out. They're going to win big this week. Florida's well coached. They're going to rebound and then Rome. Then they got Texas. I believe after that, the following week, which will be a big one. This one won't be in the swamp, it will be in Austin, but thank God Florida will be ready for that one. What should be a good game, but obviously the ass whippings of the week. Florida, Florida took it on the chin Florida.
[00:28:24] Speaker A: Same thing with Mississippi State, man. I thought, like, I really at their quarterback. Seems like everyone likes him. He has like a lot of, you know, swag to him. Everyone thinks he might be at like a school like Alabama next year. You know, Saban's already throwing that out. But they get their ass beat. And now Alabama, for the first time, they're back in. They are contenders in. In college football. Which is kind of crazy because we were calling for this guy to be fired.
[00:28:47] Speaker B: Well, we were necessary to be fired. I mean, J. Jay Z came in only season high on Alabama. If I remember from the episode that never's going to get released. But that's fine. I. I'd rather it not get.
[00:28:56] Speaker A: He released all the college football stuff.
[00:28:58] Speaker B: Oh, did we?
[00:29:00] Speaker C: Original NFL. So we don't have to pay attention to the NFL stuff.
I picked Bama to make the playoff. I still think they got the guys.
[00:29:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:29:09] Speaker C: I just think the Caitlin deboer of it all, I think is like what that guy took Washington to and where he's been successful.
I just think it's. They're going to be always going to be a really good program, like, and I think he's a good coach that got another team there. The problem around him all the time is that the Alabama expectations of it all are just completely unreasonable because of where they were at in college football. And, you know, my beef with the SEC on their expectations, now that the rules are all the same, your conference isn't as special. It's still really good. Still going to be competing with the best in the country. But these other schools can get guys now too. And so you're not going to be three deep at every position like they used to be anymore. But I still think you're going to get the talent there. And I think the board does do that. And I think he's always coached well, coached his team up well and well with the right guys in place.
[00:29:57] Speaker B: Another thing to point out too of deboer is he won at quote unquote, lesser programs, right? He won at Fresno State. He did well there. He won at Washington. We talk about nil. Look at Alabama's. Not one of the bigger, bigger spinners. I mean, they're not cheap, but they're not up there with the Texas is, the Oklahoma's, the LSU's. They're kind of middle of the pack as far as spending. And Deborah is a guy that gets, you know, a lot out of his talent. They've got a big, big, big game. The game of the week against Georgia this week at home.
We'll dig deeper into that later in the week because that. That's gonna be a juicy one.
[00:30:30] Speaker A: 100.
I don't know if you guys caught the news about Ohio State.
They ended recovering against Iowa, but I, I find it kind of funny that Dave Portnoy of Barcelona Sports kind of made fun of Ohio State and Ryan Day for getting kicked off of Fox new coverage.
[00:30:50] Speaker C: Did he actually get kicked. Did he actually get kicked off of Fox? I saw stuff about it. It was.
Was it a junior gimmick?
[00:30:56] Speaker A: No, no, no. They are kicked off the noonday coverage. Their show still exists. Everything else with their Fox partnership still exists. But Dave Portnoy and, and, and, and all the Barstool fans, I guess they're creating too much controversy, too much drama.
They're off.
[00:31:12] Speaker C: I think Barcelona's got a time and place for different stuff. It ain't on that broadcast. Like, I'm so.
[00:31:19] Speaker A: It was. It is. Like, it's not fit.
[00:31:21] Speaker C: Like, there's, there's a place for the circus and the clown show and it just. And it just isn't there. Like. And, like, I like a lot of stuff Barstool puts out, man. Barstool is a bunch of Chicago guys, man. I watch, like, their baseball and everything like that. Yeah, it's a bunch of Chicago. Like, you got, you got White Sox Dave over there, Barstool, he was, he was texting White Sox players and pitching staff in game one because they were stealing. The guardians were stealing signs. So, you know, all respect to them on that, but I think for Portnoy on what they're doing on that, that's good. That's a. God, I won't say a serious broadcast, but you're talking a network TV broadcast that's trying to bring in ratings. And, you know, this guy's going to be, you know, do it, doing the stick and everything out there. Just. It doesn't match.
[00:32:00] Speaker A: It didn't work. Everyone else in suits, he's walking in with, like, wrinkled jeans and a T shirt and he looks hungover. It was, it wasn't a good match.
[00:32:08] Speaker C: There's like, and there's biases to all these guys because obviously, you know, Saban on game day, he's got his own agenda.
[00:32:16] Speaker A: He does.
[00:32:16] Speaker C: You know, you know, and if you're
[00:32:18] Speaker A: looking heavy Alabama, heavy sec.
[00:32:20] Speaker C: Yeah.
And Big Noon, you got, you got the, you got the Notre Dame and USC of it all with, with, you know, with Brady Quinn and Leonard and Reggie Bush and everyone. All them are on it. So I think there's these allegiances. But I mean, like, Portnoy be over the top on Michigan just like completely, like. I mean, I. I'm not one to talk for my biases. I'm wearing a White Sox hat in this pod right now and doing everything. But I mean, he's over the top. I mean, I can tell you where the White Sox suck. He thinks Michigan's always great, even when they were embarrassing themselves versus Western Michigan.
[00:32:52] Speaker A: He's pretty quiet now. I think this last loss got him pretty quiet. So we'll see how it goes.
[00:32:58] Speaker B: He'll be back. He'll be back again.
[00:32:59] Speaker A: He'll be back. He'll be back. All right. Any other final comments for college football? I thought it was a nice little recap.
No, I think we're good. Rome, how'd you do, Aaron, in your games, by the way?
[00:33:11] Speaker B: For the college games? We went five and five. Five and five this week. Rome.
[00:33:17] Speaker A: We're just hitting.500 everywhere. Are we one of those years?
[00:33:21] Speaker B: It's okay.
Yeah. I mean, we took a bad beat in that Auburn Tennessee game.
Quarterback threw an interception in the end zone there. That would have got Auburn a little cover, but.
[00:33:33] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:33:34] Speaker B: All right.
[00:33:35] Speaker A: No, I'm looking forward to this week. We're trying to get in the meat and potatoes, trying to find out who these teams are. So kind of fun.
Everybody comment on the pod. We want Aaron's top college football program starting this week.
Now that the games matter.
[00:33:51] Speaker B: I'll give you 15. Rome.
I'll have it ready for you Wednesday.
[00:33:55] Speaker A: Love it. All right, let's take a quick break. We come back, talk a little F1 and NFL.
Time to talk a little NFL week four.
We start off with the Steelers Browns on Thursday Night Football. My Steelers faltered. Really good game.
And it was kind of weird how the broadcast was pushing this weird Watson redemption arc, as if he didn't deserve all the criticism that's coming his way for all those massages. Not buying it, but congrats to the Browns for stirring up my division. We're gonna get more to that where the numbers are just not lining up for a lot of these teams, teams that are either doing well or teams are doing bad. We're going to break it down. I'm going to kind of cut through the chatter. There's still hope for a lot of teams.
We have the London game, Colts commanders, 30 to 13.
Mariota goes out. I think what first drive of the game and that's it. Daniel Jones actually looked kind of decent, depending on who you talk to. It was Either A boring game. I caught the end of it. I thought it was not, not not too bad but Colts got a much needed victory there. Then it was a full Sunday slate with lots of action, lots of drama. I even took my daughter. It was their first NFL game to the San Francisco 49ers with the Denver Broncos visiting. Fun game, kind of hot.
And those beers are not cheap in Santa Clara. So that was kind of rough one to take on on the chin, but fun game nonetheless. Samso came out on top. Brock Purdy, not his best game, but man, you'll see the new power rankings. Why San Francisco is a new number one team in Rome's power rankings coming out later tonight.
Besides that, we had a disappointing Monday Night Football. For myself, this is why you should not bet on any predictive markets and doing like eight leg parlays. All good though. As Atlanta, they're looking a lot better with Penx coming out and kind of surprising. Shock. Pretty good quarterback. I don't know what the hell else happened there in that game. Bijan Robinson getting comparisons to Barry Sanders on the broadcast. He looked great. He looked great. He had 100 yards in the first half and dominated that Atlanta might shake some things up now. Now we had two back to back games where they look kind of competent.
Kevin Stefanski, is he doing something right there? I don't know. Well, let's. We'll see what Jason Aaron has has to say.
Jags surprising win over the Bengals. Surprising for me.
[00:36:42] Speaker B: They're gonna get rewarded for surprising.
What are you talking about dude?
Come on, man.
[00:36:47] Speaker A: Surprising me.
[00:36:49] Speaker B: Stop playing stupid on the Jags, man. Stop playing stupid.
[00:36:51] Speaker A: I'm giving Jags some props. You'll find that in the power rankings as well.
Patriots much needed win. Rams big on the road. I think that's it. I think that's all I got. Chiefs and Raiders. Raiders look like a playoff team. I'm gonna say right here and right how I think they're gonna make the playoffs.
I think it might just be Chiefs and Raiders and I think everyone else is just bye bye. That's including the Denver Broncos. They just don't look like they're on the same page. I saw Bo Nicks in person.
They got some weird personnel, some weird play calling.
That ain't it. I don't think it's happening. I don't remember what we all called out for that division, but we're going to review that. Sure enough. And then Seahawks took care of business against the Chargers. Panthers looked really good again against a really shitty Lions defense.
And that's about it, guys. Biggest wins of the week.
[00:37:45] Speaker C: I mean, I would start. I mean, you start with your.
I want you to give the props to the Jags, Rome, because that's a big game. That was a big time game.
I could, I considered Rome driving down to Cincinnati from Cleveland up here, but it's not a, it's not a close drive. It's four hours away. It was four hours.
It was four hours.
[00:38:05] Speaker B: That's a night walk for Rome, the way he drives.
[00:38:08] Speaker C: I was like, I thought about you, but I was like, yeah, I don't know. Spending another small fortune to go to that game. But yeah, I think the Jags in that game, I mean, it was a team, two teams probably going to be playoff.
Playoff teams could be a matchup. We see in the playoffs. I, I think, you know, Joe Burrow had 428 yards and we only generated 17 points in the game. So it was crazy.
[00:38:29] Speaker A: That's wild.
[00:38:29] Speaker C: Chase obviously goes out early, so what does that play into where, where it could have been. But I mean, it was a, it was, it was a playoff type game. I think every bit of it, everything was like a struggle, even though the yards were there, but it kind of, kind of just kept kind of sitting in this range where things are going kind of a striking distance kind of for either team. But I think it's a big win for the Jags. You know, getting to 3 and 1. Their division obviously hasn't been great. They've been the exception in the AFC south.
But when it comes to like playoff seeding and I'm going against some of the other, you know, the other divisions that are going to have better contenders. When you're talking about the Ravens or you're going to talk about the Bills or, I mean, they played like the Broncos and them, but I mean, this is, this is going to be maybe a preview. And I think the Jags, it's a big win and a matchup for them.
[00:39:13] Speaker A: I will say it's about the Jags.
I do have some questions about some of the death, but just.
And they make a lot of dumb mistakes. They had a lot, a lot of penalties, I think in the first half. But whatever their coach is doing to their team, they just have so much energy. Trevor Lawrence, good game, great stats wise. Didn't make too many mistakes, took a few extra sacks that didn't look great. But the whole team, though, they're like they're feeding off each other.
Hunter was pretty good on defense as well. You had a couple standout Guys, but just someone is always stepping up. Someone's always stepping up. It's not always a big name, guys, but they just have each other's back.
That and them dismantling the Patriots the week before. That's why they're being rewarded on the power rankings. Now.
I think this might be a team to, you know, be reckoned with. And I might be wrong on my preseason predictions. They might be poised to go on a deep run. We'll see.
[00:40:08] Speaker B: Rome, I talked to you earlier. Look at, I said the Jaguars are the most talented team in the afc, both offensively and defensively. Now, whether or not they can beat a Josh Allen or a Mahomes or whatever in the playoffs, we'll wait and see. But this team, well coached and the most talented team, offensive defense, they are loaded. They're a good team. So yes, Jason's right.
I think another team that got a huge win, the New England Patriots, like this team was basically written off for dead huge. You just mentioned, you just mentioned it. Rome, they got dismantled 35, three the week before by the Jaguars.
[00:40:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:40:40] Speaker B: And then they go into Buffalo, hostile. Buffalo basically has a chance to put a string, will hold on that division, right? They go, they win, they go 4, 0. Everybody else is 1 and 3 or 0 and 4.
Basically your chances of winning that division are slim. The Patriots go in there. No Christian Gonzalez. All the talk about Drake May being terrible, he finally doesn't turn the ball over. They did have that interception with Dobs where like, it hit off his hand and he got picked.
[00:41:08] Speaker A: That's okay. You know, that's okay.
[00:41:09] Speaker B: Stuff happens. It's kind of dumb that they're even running a play with 10 seconds before the half, but big win for them, keeping their season alive.
[00:41:17] Speaker A: Very.
[00:41:17] Speaker B: And they needed it. They needed that win. Drake may needed it for his confidence builder, but I thought he did a smart thing instead of just forcing the ball between guys and coverage, just run it. The guy's got good wheels. Run it, move the sticks and then get back to 1st and 10 and stuff instead of forcing stuff. Patriots were my big winner of the week.
[00:41:36] Speaker A: That's one thing he's done consistently and still uses legs, you know, throughout, you know, his, his struggles. It looks like the whole team though, like they know, like, yo, Drake, you're one of the better quarterbacks in league. Just wake up. And for whatever reason, the mechanic issue that he's had in the first few weeks, including last year, it's been on a. It's been a terrible run. Seven, eight games here he Looked like he came back to normal, snapped it off. And you know what? This would happen last year too as well. They played the Bills, Bills had a chance to take command of the division and the Patriots came and laid an ass whooping in the Bill Stadium. It seems like that might be their kryptonite. It's like the Lakers against the Seattle SuperSonics back in the late 90s. I used to be pissed off at that rivalry. Kind of remind me of that. But big wake up call.
It looks like the receining drama is all over. You know the curse might be done and just last three or four games but if the Patriots can wake up, can be some serious stuff. I love big games. Jason, you got any nominees for big wins?
[00:42:37] Speaker C: Well, we've gone long enough. Not talking about Chicago teams. Rome, the Chicago Bears, man dominating the jets. And I know the jets aren't great. Okay, we get that. Not a big win. But Rome, the bears had 34 first downs in that, in that game the jets ran 32 plays.
[00:42:55] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:42:56] Speaker C: Now just I.
We're two years in now. If you go back to season one of the podcast, you heard me just begging and pleading for the Bears to hire Ben Johnson. I don't, I don't know where you get to go find the tapes on this.
My record of like this is the man to lead the team is there. You guys can vouch for me on that. Now this last week and then this week is the 100% reason why you need the coach. The players make the plays, all the talents on the field. But football above any other of these sports is where coaching matters the absolute most. Because it's not only about getting, you know, your guys up for the game and doing the in game stuff, but all of the preparation, game plan, scheme, understanding what you're going to do. Like they had a precise way they were going to win this game with a third different quarterback. He is. Ben Johnson has three wins this season with three different quarterbacks. And to be able to have what he wants to do, control the ball, not have it, not giving the ball back to the Jets. Wide open receivers down the field for Bajan to make plays a running game, I mean they gave the backup running back. I mean he's not really a backup but the second, the second running back for the Bears. Palmer had 30 carries, two touchdowns in this game.
[00:44:17] Speaker A: Great game.
[00:44:17] Speaker C: I think it was a different way to be dominant. The score I don't think indicates how dominant the Bears were. 2312.
[00:44:23] Speaker A: Right.
[00:44:24] Speaker C: But the jets, as bad as they were Last year, you know, Aaron even he's not a big Aaron Glenn fan. But he gave Aaron and Glenn a little props at the beginning of the season. They won that first game versus the Titans, they kept it close versus the Lions. They played but they got utterly destroyed in this game by pretty much any way possible. And I think this is just a big way for the Bears to go the first quarter of the season. 3 and 1. I think it's where I projected it to be. Albeit I thought they beat the Vikings and lose to the Eagles, but they've done it a different way. But going into a Green Bay game next week, Caleb not going to play. So it's going to be, you know, pretty, pretty interesting. But I think Ben knows exactly what he wants to do and this is the longevity of having the right coach.
I just couldn't speak highly enough of what you see on this play because I mean it's hard for people to understand when you've watched a Bears offense for your entire generation to understand. You can't barely complete the forward pass where this team is just got wide open receivers, receivers 20 yards downfield at like any point in the game that Beijing could hit. And so I, I thought it was super impressive.
[00:45:29] Speaker A: Yeah, one thing I, you know I had the, just the points here in this game. You know, the, the jets looked really competitive. I thought this would be like a good test. But the jets, jets. But the, the Bears with Ben Johnson.
You know, I think I'm just giving flowers to people now. You know, Bears gonna be a reckon with in this division. I, I think everyone's in trouble. Like they, he did a great job. Everyone's kind of criticizing how he's never actually worked the backup quarterback. He's always had the first stringer.
They dominate the first game, they dominate this game and it, you know, next week's gonna be a lot of fun. So Bears also reappearing in my power rankings.
[00:46:14] Speaker B: So yeah, Bears are a good team. I mean I'm looking at this box score. I mean Jason mentioned that The jets ran 32 plays, the Bears around 89. It's like this is like basically the SEC against McNeezy State.
[00:46:27] Speaker A: Oh my God.
[00:46:28] Speaker B: I mean this is like an fcs.
[00:46:30] Speaker A: You know, I knew Jason's the season about that.
[00:46:33] Speaker B: The good thing about Aaron, the good thing about Aaron Glenn, once he gets fired, he's going to have a job in the division because Detroit's gonna be looking for a new defensive coordinator. Just go re partner up with Dan Campbell and those guys and get schooled By Ben Johnson as well. So a great, great win for the Bears here.
I think another great win too.
I don't know if you guys watch the game Sunday. I, I don't watch this team a lot, not gonna lie. But this guy looks like an NFL quarterback. Bryce Young.
[00:46:57] Speaker A: I thought he looked great. I thought he looked fab.
[00:47:01] Speaker B: I mean, we're talking about guys are gonna get paid. Hey, you know, Tampa, you paid Baker Mayfield, but Bryce Young, dude, this guy, I, I'm, I'm a believer right now. The tape over the last second half of last year and the first half of this year.
[00:47:14] Speaker A: Wait, wait, we have, we have tape on you jumping off the bandwagon once you finally saw on prime time.
[00:47:19] Speaker B: Remember that?
I can't believe you guys talked to me. It's a taking the Panthers rock you them.
[00:47:27] Speaker A: Yeah, now you're back on.
[00:47:30] Speaker B: No, no, wait, wait. You are about that.
[00:47:34] Speaker A: Aaron does not know what to do now. The pack is like, no, he's lost, dude.
[00:47:39] Speaker C: I'll say. I'll say. Aaron Segue, you really missed the ongoing gimmick joke there of like Jason, your other favorite team also was another one on this too. You know, you really missed that there.
[00:47:48] Speaker A: So, you know.
[00:47:49] Speaker B: Well, first of all, I was gonna say that, but you did hinted at your other team was Jacksonville number two. Carolina was number three. That's what you told us last week.
[00:47:56] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what it sounds like. That's what it sounds like.
[00:47:58] Speaker B: Pay attention to the show.
The real question is what happens if we get the Bears Jaguars in the super bowl, which I think's a real big possibility.
[00:48:05] Speaker A: Get the out of here, dude.
[00:48:07] Speaker B: I would put that on your couchy prediction right now. Rome, 10 bucks. It's worth it.
[00:48:11] Speaker C: Aaron, make it very clear. The Bears are far and away favorite team. Only team in. In per entertainment purposes. And what I like about these teams, Jags, Jags and Panthers can battle over number two in our hearts here on this, on this podcast. He's trying to get. Just trying to give some respect to the 95 expansion teams that we all loved as kids because they had cooler jerseys with cool colors and they went to the AFC NFC Championship game. Like, all I.
[00:48:35] Speaker B: All I know is before we started this show that Jason was talking about going to Tampa to watch, you know, the White Sox versus Rays. But I heard he was gonna make a dip in the pool in Jacksonville and his little Speedo and be happy to watch them on a Sunday too. So, hey, you know, that's what's going on.
So. But yeah, if we're gonna go back to great wins. Bryce Young, Rome. Yes, I did jump off that bandwagon, but if you remember, they did play the ramps later on in the year. I jumped back on that bandwagon. So you could jump off, you can jump back on. I've been on Bryce Young in this bandwagon. I, I'm a believer in him. The Panthers still got, they still got some issues.
[00:49:10] Speaker A: They have issues.
[00:49:11] Speaker B: Big win for them.
[00:49:13] Speaker A: It's a super flawed team. But as long as they have Bryce Young, I think he's a debt. He's definitely going to be around for years.
[00:49:18] Speaker B: Division as well. I mean, Atlanta look good today, but the Panthers do have a win over them in week two at Atlanta. So that without Pinnock. So that could add up to be a big win later in the year.
[00:49:29] Speaker A: Yeah, I think this is the first.
Oh, go ahead.
[00:49:32] Speaker C: I'll say I want to give a shout out to Carolina, too. Just the atmosphere of that stadium in that game too. Like, I mean, they hadn't been on Sunday Night Football. I don't know, it'd been like a decade.
[00:49:43] Speaker B: 11 years.
[00:49:44] Speaker A: 11 years.
[00:49:45] Speaker C: So, I mean, I just, I was just very impressed with like the atmosphere. You know, they. I don't know if they had a blackout. It was kind of like a blackout, but then had the teal in the crowd too. Like it was a vibe atmosphere, I think just like the playoff baseball right now and some of these NFL stadiums kind of the same time. So you look for these, these, these stadiums and cities that had cool atmospheres and I thought that was great winning down in Charlotte.
[00:50:06] Speaker A: Yeah, I think that's like one of the few times the Lions haven't scored more than 28 points.
The offense has still been clicking without Ben Johnson, not as much, but it just seems like Campbell just needs to find his new coordinators because, you know, still talented team on both sides of the ball, but they can't play a call. It's really funny on X, someone was talking about how their DC is covered in his mouth while he's calling plays. Everyone's like, dude, no one gives a what plays you're calling because they just suck.
[00:50:33] Speaker B: Well, every, everybody, everybody does that Rome, because you never know who's out here. Got cameras, spying.
[00:50:39] Speaker A: Kind of tough. All right, Panthers, Seahawks, Niners, big win. I thought Vikings should have covered Raiders, Chiefs. Should we talk. Talk about that game a little bit? Raiders really get loss.
I know they lost, but this is like the most complete they've looked in a long time. I think they got the right coach Brock Bowers maybe the most, you know, unguardable guy in the NFL.
Really phenomenal. Really changes the makeup of this team. And Chiefs come away with the victory. Chiefs obviously looking good again. They got the running back they, they wanted. They might sign what I heard Hill might come back.
Somebody, I don't know there to be reckoned with. But that was a pretty exciting game.
[00:51:30] Speaker C: It was. It's. The ASC west is crazy. If you were to say right now through four weeks at the beginning of the season, an ASC west team is 4 and oh, 3 and 1, 2 and 2 and oh and 4.
I think everyone's saying the Raiders are going to be 04 that 0 and 4 team.
Crazy that the Chargers are that team. But I think it's even crazier that the 3 and 1 team is the Raiders right now. So you're looking at, you know, where Broncos Chargers are supposed to be competing for the playoff spot. I mean in the, in the unaired football preview, Aaron called me insane for thinking the Chiefs are going to be a playoff team out of this. But I mean even that non surprising. I think the Raiders are the biggest thing. I think you're right. Rome good loss. You're talking losing by a field goal to a team that's just got all, all kind of the offensive mojo. Having Kenneth Walker in this running game and I think Aaron pointed this out a couple weeks ago, like Kenneth Walker's biggest thing in the Seattle for a lot of his career was the availability aspect. So you know, what does he look like kind of late in the season but all, all the respect to the, to the Raiders and what this team has been able to do. And then what I like even more of them being three and one is they haven't rushed Mendoza to play yet.
And I think it's an underrated thing. I think we just talked about Bryce Young.
I think we did a podcast a year ago. We're just like Bryce Young. We were writing him off of, you know, he's a career backup. It's over. Career is, you know, gone.
There's always this conversation about rushing these guys to play before they need to. And I think every quarterback is different coming out of college with the coaching they've got. And this is I think a perfect situation for the Raiders right now. I was like, you don't need this guy to play Kirk Cousins. He's got, he's got a great head coach as a good play caller that has got the right schemes, that makes him successful. There's the right pieces around the offense. Kind of exploded with getting Bowers back last week. And so I think there's a great silver lining not just to this loss, but the overall Raider season is like you get to have a good season while having Mendoza develop, and then if the season somehow falters a little or they're not in contention at a certain point late in the season, then great, you can plug him in and he gets all of these reps, you know, backup learning with Cousins and everything about how to prepare and stuff. And like, I think it sets the Raiders throughout for the future where a lot of organizations have just killed their rookie quarterback in year one. And I think this is, this is the best of all worlds for the Raiders so far. Four weeks into the season.
[00:53:48] Speaker A: No, that's good, actually.
[00:53:50] Speaker B: The Raiders look good, man. The Raiders look. The Raiders look competent. They look legit. Their schedule's now going to get real. It's going to get. It's going to get tough. I mean, look it, they've got three wins. But let's. Let's hold their breath. Their victories over the team's combined record, 1 in 11, 1 and 11 is the combined three wins. So let's hold the breath. They've got the Patriots coming up here, Buffalo, Rams, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, and they got the jets mixed in there.
If the Raiders are a playoff team, this is the gauntlet to prove it. Yeah, we'll see what happens. We always talk about west traveling east. I don't like the Raiders this week in New England, but we'll find out. The Raiders have done a good job of winning the turnover battle. They have a really good coach, a good play caller. Kirk Cousins has played well.
But let's see if they come back a little bit to reality here in the next.
[00:54:41] Speaker A: Over the next month here we'll circle around. But there, there's like.
I didn't want to talk like we're like the math a mathing because we've had a few comments on X like how come the Vikings are in the top top eight? How can the Browns are in the top eight? You know, and. And Jason's really big on point differential. So I just want to review that really quickly for both.
[00:55:00] Speaker B: What's the DVAA or other you like to pull up? Where's that at?
[00:55:05] Speaker A: I don't even know what that stands for.
Get out of here, bro.
[00:55:08] Speaker B: I mean, where's that crap?
[00:55:09] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know where you find that. I don't know where you find that.
[00:55:13] Speaker B: Ah, good, because it sucks.
Okay.
[00:55:16] Speaker A: Great. If you look at point differential, though, Bills, you got the Ravens, you got the Jaguars, huge point differential. And then you got the Chiefs and Raiders. Those guys belong.
Browns, 81 to 95, three and one. It's a mirage. We'll see what happens later on. In all reality, Bengals should probably be on top. Raven should be on top in that division.
Things are going to equal out a little bit. Colts look like they'll be a.500 team. It's okay. We're going to find out. But Chargers, they look terrible. Broncos, they're 2 and 2, but they're 20 points in the negative. It's not in the right direction. It's not looking good. But I think for now the Raiders look like they belong and we'll see. I actually think they're going to win maybe two or three out of that gauntlet. And if they do, then they should be in the conversation because they're definitely getting a hit. They're over.
NFC, you got differential. Giants or Mirage? Because they're only three points, 82 to 79, and they're 3 and 1. It's in all reality, probably Cowboys probably end up climbing to the top.
And Bears, they're in second place right now, but they're gonna climb the top. No one's gonna take the Vikings seriously. All right. It's all Mirage at 4. 0. They're not, they're not one of the eight best teams in the league right now.
You got.
[00:56:39] Speaker C: Not, not, not that I want to defend the Vikings room, but I was waiting to see what you said about this.
If you're going off the point differential, they do have the third best point differential in the nfc.
[00:56:48] Speaker A: So just look at that right now argument here.
[00:56:55] Speaker C: I'm just trying to lay it out.
You're gonna get, yeah, you, you're. I, I agree there's outliers, but I think you're gonna get more hate on X here if you're not. If you're just saying, hey, your point division sucks, but you're the third best in the nfc.
[00:57:07] Speaker A: Yeah, there's a lot of Vikings fans up there. I was getting, you know, hammered on that, but not as much as people wanting to see Aaron's hot coaches ranking 1 through 32.
[00:57:18] Speaker B: I don't know if I got enough time for that one.
[00:57:21] Speaker C: Well, I, I, I want to stop you while you're on a run run now that I've stopped you. And going through the point differential, I will say going back to Aaron's Broncos, he even brings up with the Raiders. I think in Part of our unaired season preview, I think the schedule comes into play. And so for the Broncos, it was the front loaded part of the schedule. First five, it's. Arnold held it against me. I said The Broncos could go 0 5. Well, they're not going to go and 5. They're going to go 3 and 2 because they'll probably crush the Chargers this weekend.
But coming in unscathed at 3 and 2 now they're going to start playing just like the Cardinals and the Raiders and the Dolphins and the jets and the Chargers again. And so like the Broncos turn into all their unfavorable games here in the mid to the back after their schedule where I think that point differential starts to turn around a little bit, where maybe the Raiders. You're seeing stuff flip. If you do think Minnesota is not the team to beat, then I think that's where maybe some of their stuff goes. But remember, this division's playing the ASC south this year from the NSC North. So the Vikings got a lot of winnable games still in there that could be. They'd be having to to prove some points.
[00:58:24] Speaker A: Then I'll bet against him in the first round of the playoffs. It's all good.
[00:58:28] Speaker B: The Vikings are interesting because they've only got one offensive touchdown the last three games.
[00:58:34] Speaker A: Murray looks bad.
[00:58:36] Speaker B: Murray does not look great, but that defense looks good.
[00:58:38] Speaker A: Yeah, divas look great.
[00:58:40] Speaker B: Well, we'll see. Because look, New Orleans defensively has not been very good here the last couple weeks. They're going there.
[00:58:46] Speaker A: Jesus Christ.
[00:58:48] Speaker B: So that's a big game for them. Maybe they can get this stuff going. But defensively they've been really, really good. Minnesota, Minnesota is kind of one of those weird teams where like we write them off, they win 14 games and we think they're going to be good. They win like eight. So I think Minnesota is probably a 10, 11 win team when it gets all said and done because even if Murray gets hurt, we know wins because like more than capable backup that can win some games. Yeah, I don't know who the third string is now that JJ's in with the Giants, but Minnesota, that defense isn't going anywhere. It's very difficult to play against.
And let's be honest, that division, you know, packers aren't great and the Lions defensively aren't good. So there's opportunities for Minnesota maybe to write the ship on offense and figure out some wins there.
[00:59:29] Speaker A: Maybe charters have to turn around at some point.
[00:59:34] Speaker C: Maybe it is against the Broncos in 2027.
[00:59:38] Speaker B: All right, we'll See, I think they have a good chance to beat the Broncos this week.
[00:59:42] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm going.
[00:59:45] Speaker B: I think if the Broncos do lose, Davis Webb will be stripped of offensive coordinator duties.
[00:59:49] Speaker A: 100. 100.
All right.
[00:59:52] Speaker B: A lot of pressure on the Broncos this week.
[00:59:54] Speaker A: We won our big wins. Any disappointing, like huge losses, any teams we should cross out, they're done. Season's over. Over already.
[01:00:04] Speaker C: I mean, it's tough to say with the Chargers and the Titans. Like you're talking being Owen4, like pretty much done. I would say tax ins though.
[01:00:14] Speaker A: They're owing four. But they could have won all four of those games.
[01:00:18] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:00:19] Speaker A: Point differential though, it's not good.
[01:00:21] Speaker C: Yeah, it's weird with how good their defense is, but like they haven't looked
[01:00:26] Speaker A: good this year though.
[01:00:27] Speaker C: I mean they, they got, they got the Titans this week. Tough game against the Jags in London. Then they got the Giants, the Chargers, the Browns, the Colts. They, they got winnable games coming up and I mean that's kind of what they did last year. Remember, they didn't start great and they kind of went on that run. So I don't think this is the ideal spot for them. But I wouldn't cross them off just yet given where things are at as any team ever.
[01:00:51] Speaker B: Owen four made the NFL playoffs.
[01:00:54] Speaker A: I don't know, maybe one or two if.
[01:00:57] Speaker B: Oh, and three. I mean the Texans were zero and three last year and made the playoffs. So I, I get where Jason's saying don't write them off.
[01:01:03] Speaker A: Right.
[01:01:03] Speaker B: But oh, and four. I don't know if it's ever been done.
[01:01:06] Speaker A: Texas are two.
[01:01:06] Speaker B: Probably one team has done it, but
[01:01:08] Speaker A: yeah, at least one.
[01:01:10] Speaker C: The 92 Chargers started 0 and 4 and finished 11.
[01:01:13] Speaker B: I'm saying the Chargers are going to do it again.
[01:01:15] Speaker C: Wow.
[01:01:16] Speaker B: I got on big time money line this week.
[01:01:18] Speaker C: Herbert's not good.
[01:01:19] Speaker A: I think Herbert's. I, I think I'm off the ship on Herbert. I think he's done.
I, I think I already forgot his name. The quarterback at Tennessee. I think this is last year. I think he's done.
[01:01:31] Speaker C: Yeah, I'm, I don't think this team is done because there's a lot to say. But I do think there is some questions in Washington.
[01:01:39] Speaker B: Ah,
[01:01:41] Speaker A: yeah, I, I had him on the over for the year. I think it was like what, eight and a half wins? It's not looking good right now.
[01:01:47] Speaker B: I think they're over under seven and a half.
[01:01:49] Speaker A: Was it okay?
[01:01:50] Speaker B: Yeah. Look at, they've got, they've got issues. We'll see what happens with Jaden. Not Jalen, but Jaden Daniels. Let's see if they can show up.
I. Look, the. The team I said that was going to be in trouble early in this year, and I believe they are in trouble. It's Philadelphia. They got a ton of injuries.
[01:02:06] Speaker A: Yeah, they don't look good.
[01:02:09] Speaker B: Sirianni is going to be getting more and more mad with the, you know, the media. They're gonna. They're going to be calling for his ass.
[01:02:15] Speaker C: This guy's just. He's manifesting his stike into Philadelphia take right now.
[01:02:20] Speaker B: Right. The problem is I. Steichen's got Indianapolis turned around. I don't want him doing too good because then they're going to keep them.
[01:02:26] Speaker A: Big game this week against my Steelers. I am nervous.
[01:02:32] Speaker B: I don't know what to. I don't.
[01:02:33] Speaker A: I don't know.
[01:02:33] Speaker B: I'm. I don't know which way to lean on that game yet. Rome, I'm still breaking.
[01:02:36] Speaker A: Philly was up, man. They look like they were in control.
I initially had the Rams winning this, but then on Sunday, I. I tweeted about it. I had. Philly had a good feeling about him. Like, to their dogs at home. I'm liking it. It's a rough place. And then they're up, what, 20 to 3, whatever it was, and then nothing happens for about a quarter and a half.
And if you look at the stats, it looks like the Rams just like dominated the out of them. Stafford didn't have a great game. He had a couple turnovers. Looking a little rough so far this season. Definitely not gonna have the same type of year that he had last year.
And. And the Eagles could have easily still won this game, even though not running on all cylinders. But they blow it. I think it's like, what the second blown game like this.
What the hell's going on?
[01:03:22] Speaker B: Well, they got. Well, look, they got injuries, right? Devonte Smith is out. Goddard's out.
[01:03:27] Speaker A: What?
[01:03:28] Speaker B: Early first quarter. Barkley got hurt.
[01:03:31] Speaker A: Barkley looks like he's gonna say, I happen off here again, so.
[01:03:35] Speaker B: And then they had Lane Johnson missed the game for personal reasons. I. What was the personal reasons? Anybody know? Like, is his wife giving birth? Did he just say Philadelphia? I'm not showing up to this game. I. I don't know.
Look, Philadelphia. I mean, the. I guess the good thing for Philadelphia is they got the Jags in London instead of going to Jacksonville and getting their ass kicked there on Sunday. But we'll see what happens in London. Anything can happen there, but Jacksonville should. Should stick it to them. But we'll see.
[01:04:05] Speaker C: It's basically, it's basically been almost a, almost a year and a half at this point where this offense has never felt like competent. Like, it's just like it's a struggle. Like we, I think we talked last year. It's like if they can't get the running game to get the tush push for like the final three yards, like they couldn't do anything. Like you had, you had the A.J. brown frustrated because you can't give him the ball. I think Devonta Smith's either, like, it's either boom or bust out of him.
You know, Jalen going with the ball. You don't really know if it's always like, yeah, he should be good.
He's got the look and he's made the throws at a certain point. But then you get into the game and it's like it does. Nothing ever happens with their offense. And it's. Everything's a.
Everything's like a sludge to get through. Like it just feels like they're in quicksand all the time. And then maybe it's the Saquon thing, because if you looked at two years ago when Saquon was the leading rusher, like everything, everything worked off of that. And I don't think whether it's Sirianni or just the players, I was like, I don't think they know how to
[01:05:03] Speaker A: get out of not having that 12 for 2793 yards.
Ridiculous.
[01:05:09] Speaker B: Philadelphia and Sirianni is kind of like Dan Campbell in Detroit.
All 100 dependent on coordinators. Shane Steichen's there. Jalen hurts a stud. Kaylin Moore there. Jalen Sturt's Jalen Hurst is a stud. First time play caller. Dude's a bottom 15 quarterback. That's all it is. You get an elite OC there.
[01:05:30] Speaker A: Yeah. Golf, they're good either you don't get
[01:05:33] Speaker B: an elite OC there. They're not any good. According to. That's why I say, yeah, coordinators are really, really big. Look, you've seen it with Chicago. Look it. If you go back to the cycle, Ben Johnson, the number one oc, what has he done with Chicago? Made him great. The number two oc, Liam Cohen, what has he done with the Jags? He's made them great.
[01:05:56] Speaker A: Great's a big word.
[01:05:57] Speaker B: But yeah, they're, they're. I mean, they went from four wins to 13. Rome. I mean, in the NFL, that's pretty.
[01:06:02] Speaker A: On the playoffs, you could say great, but they're good. They're good.
[01:06:08] Speaker C: I think Aaron's making the real transition point on this too. It's like you're talking about like the play caller, whether it's the coordinator or it's the head coach themselves. And if you look at like some of these good teams that are in the league and he just mentioned two of them with Ben Johnson and Leon Cohen, I mean you can even think about, you know, McVeigh and Shanahan kind of Zach Taylor a little bit in the Bengals to a degree.
You know, it's, it's, it's these offensive guys that are driving it to a certain point that I think I like. I. Who's the best defensive coordinator, head coach. I mean look at you talk about your Texans right now. D' Amico Ryan's like Stroud.
He don't look great. That offense don't look great. I mean there's, there's something to what that the these defensive minded head coaches can get up to their team and put it together. But they're the teams that have the offensive focus that starts with the game. There's a real differential. Who's, who's good and who's not.
[01:07:01] Speaker B: Well, yeah, I mean Jason Point. I mean what defensive focus head coach right now has an elite team outside of maybe Mike McDonald in Seattle. Is there, is there another one?
I mean you mentioned Shanahan offense, Johnson offense, Cohen offense, McVeigh offense.
I mean Eagles, Joe Brady offense.
[01:07:22] Speaker C: Yeah, but Carolina's offense.
[01:07:27] Speaker A: I guess so.
[01:07:29] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:07:30] Speaker B: So I mean the young defensive guys like Jason mentions what Demico Ryan's.
[01:07:35] Speaker C: McDonald's really the only one holding it down for him. He's holding it down. I mean he won the super bowl so there's something there. But at the same time he's got a different level of the way he's coaching up defense. And at least from an offensive standpoint, I think there's a plan that matches what their defense does. But I mean I think just scales are just so tilted like hey, you need a guy who's going to be able to have the blueprint and pay what your team needs to be doing offensively if you don't got that guy, whether it's the head coach or, or the, the right coordinator.
[01:08:01] Speaker A: Yeah, but it's defense.
[01:08:03] Speaker B: We didn't even mention Andy Reid offensive guy.
And now the Broncos, they don't have Sean Payton. The offense looks lost so maybe he takes it over.
The only defensive guys is McDonald in, in with the Seattle and then you got Rabel. Was the Patriots really? I guess as a defensive guy, that's it. Those are the only defensive coaches led that are making anything. Any headways really.
[01:08:30] Speaker C: You bring up an interesting point. Rome with Minnesota though, because that was a team where Kevin o' Connell was like, he was one of the boy geniuses kind of in there too of what they'll do offensively. But I think they've had better years when the defense was better at this point. And I don't know if that's intentional for him is like, hey, I got Flores in this defense. They're going to be dominant and I got to be controlling. And maybe a choice the way he's kind of doing stuff because we. They've never got the other quarterback. Right. But it's an interesting, interesting way there with the head coach still being the offensive guy.
[01:09:01] Speaker A: The quarterback whisper is taking a hit with JJ McCarthy and now Carla Bury a little bit. But yeah, the defense has been pushed, pushing that narrative a little bit.
[01:09:12] Speaker C: I mean, I'm not going to blame the head coach for picking McCarthy. I think. Well, I mean, I'll say we all. Because I think you were defending JJ, the JJ McCarthy.
[01:09:18] Speaker B: I was.
[01:09:19] Speaker A: Well, I, I don't know about a shitty attitude, like now that I read about it, like, like, oh, this guy faked an entry or like didn't tell them. And then, and then, and then he still did like that with a little dance in the end zone in spite of all the coaches. Like, this guy's an asshole. All right. Entitled prick. All right.
[01:09:34] Speaker C: I'm trying to, I'm trying to think of who was the. Who was the Vikings.
Vikings drafted somebody like 15 years ago in the first round.
[01:09:45] Speaker A: A few quarterbacks and they've wondered, yeah, Florida State.
[01:09:50] Speaker C: And I remember Ponder, because I got, I got. I got into a fight with somebody that I didn't even know. I think it was in a fantasy league with a bunch of Vikings fans or something and telling me this guy's gonna be the next Tom Brady and everything. I'm like, I saw him play in college. He's definitely not that. Same thing with McCarthy. He definitely is not that I like, I'm no, I'm no QB like expert in the draft process, but I know the guys that could actually that get hidden in college, they gotta actually play versus the ones are gonna be able to step up in the pros.
[01:10:16] Speaker A: Jason, I do have one question for you.
[01:10:18] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:10:19] Speaker A: What do you think about Bonix?
[01:10:21] Speaker C: I mean, I, I like Bonix. I don't. I'm not as high as Aaron is on him. I think he was probably drafted mostly appropriately, but I think he Went through the proper reps in college to play at an NFL quarterback level but I mean at the end of the day he may be the second best QB out of that draft. Caleb's obviously number one but I think Bo might be but I think Bo might be better than Drake.
[01:10:48] Speaker A: That's crazy. All right. Another comment.
[01:10:51] Speaker B: He was, he was hoping you were going to talk on Bo next Competent minds think alike.
[01:10:55] Speaker A: Rome no, I'm so stock on Bo next dude
[01:11:00] Speaker C: I would probably credit I think Bo there are some limitations but I still think he's very, he's a very good quarterback that can do stuff. I think his plus is what Animal Town is. He is Sean Page and I think Peyton knows not to use him right But I guess if he's not calling the plays this year that maybe there's
[01:11:17] Speaker A: going to be some I think Bo
[01:11:18] Speaker B: Nix is heavily dependent on good coordinators. If you go back to Jason pointing out he I think bonix played what started 6163 games in college. Bo Nix can spin in his last two years at Oregon I think he led the NCAA in completion percentage in the high 70s. Like it's college It's a different level playing in the old PAC12 but bo nix is needs a competent coach.
He can, he could spin it. Rome like you mentioned he's more athletic and quicker than you think. He does have accuracy problems. He does tend to force stuff but why I like Bo Nicks. Look how many 4th quarter comeback wins he's had playoffs and regular season. That tells me you got a quarterback that at least gets it. JJ never was a guy that really could spin it. In college he won on a run game and in the NFL you just don't win really in a run game. Dude it's really more quarterback dependent especially late in the fourth quarter when you need to. When you really need to step up and make big plays.
[01:12:09] Speaker A: Oh no. Not sold Nicks anymore.
[01:12:13] Speaker B: Well if he loses to Herbert and the Chargers you're really not going to be sold on him this week. Rome.
[01:12:17] Speaker A: I mean I, I Herbert, he has a hot girlfriend. That's all he got. He looked great for three seasons. That's it.
[01:12:26] Speaker B: I'll say this about Herbert Rome. He's. He's looked bad but in the second half against Seattle I actually saw him play that was the best offense the Chargers had played all year. In the second half of Seattle I,
[01:12:36] Speaker A: I did throw a stat I think on the wise guys something about like own four teams you know they won like 70 that did not come through this past week so, you know, I guess trends are meant to be broken, but are owing three teams.
[01:12:47] Speaker B: You met Rome, huh? Oh, and three teams.
Four yet.
[01:12:51] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, but like taxes have to win, charges have to win. We got some more on four teams that are desperate for wins right now. They have.
[01:12:58] Speaker B: We got. We. We got a lot of interesting trends coming up. I guess we'll get more into it when we get into the lines. But we have all the teams basically.014. And the Texans and Chargers have not covered the spread in any game yet this year.
[01:13:09] Speaker A: No.
[01:13:09] Speaker B: And all the 40 teams have covered the spread. So is that train. Is that train gonna reverse to where those four 0 teams don't and the 0 and 4 teams do? I think there's some matchups that line up in favor for some of these games.
[01:13:21] Speaker A: You know, the fact that the Niners didn't have like a great game against the Broncos. I think they're gonna rebound up in Seattle. I'm digging that one.
[01:13:28] Speaker B: I think this is one where you fade the Niners 40 against the number. I believe they will be on the downside of that one. But we'll see.
[01:13:33] Speaker A: Maybe we'll see.
I think I'm good at NFL. We have new power rankings coming out. Bears will be making their second appearance on it. Back on it. Jaguars finally make it on there.
So I did rank teams 1 through 20 this weekend. Yeah. Just so I know who's on the bubble.
[01:13:54] Speaker B: Jesus Rome.
Wow. 1 through 20.
[01:13:57] Speaker A: 1 through 20, man. Graded each win.
[01:14:00] Speaker B: Might as well Give us your 11 through 50 in college football that you were talking about.
[01:14:04] Speaker A: I mean, I don't watch as much college football as you do, so I. I can't do that.
You're the guy that knows how to pick the teams out of nowhere. So I appreciate that.
You've been talking about Northwestern.
[01:14:16] Speaker B: Northwestern is a top 50 team.
[01:14:17] Speaker A: Mississippi State, you're on that, too.
I appreciate that. We're just having some bad luck in college football. All right.
I'm looking forward to next week.
Let's talk really quickly.
Five minutes.
F1. I stayed up. My daughter was pumped.
[01:14:36] Speaker B: Do you want. Do you. Wait, Rome, do you want to go on a two hour delay before we break down those five minutes like the real race or what?
[01:14:42] Speaker A: Dude, my daughter was pumped up to watch the race because she's like in F1 now.
[01:14:47] Speaker B: Jason, did you stay up live and watch it or did you actually go to bed? Because he didn't really miss much if he took a nap.
[01:14:51] Speaker C: And between I went to bed. I was in Cleveland On Eastern time. I didn't get to start. This is the podcast. I think this is the second or third time that you guys had me remote recording in Eastern standard time. I will forever say the Pacific standard time is God's time zone. Watching sports in Eastern time is awful. Just utterly awful. I know that there's a lot of people that say, oh, on the west coast, you got college football starts during Breakfast Time or NFL Street. Good, because the NFL games start at 10 and they're over by 8:30. Like, God awful. I like, I worked out. I like, you know, got dressed, I walked around downtown Cleveland and the game still hadn't started yet. The bars weren't even open. Like, I was like, it's noon. Like, is the bar gonna open? Like, are the games gonna be on? Like, what is. What is going on here? So, no, I went to bed.
You know, obviously this has nothing to do with Formula one, because as a Formula one fan, you stay up at all hours of the night because God knows where these races are and what time zone stuff. But I think it was. It was 3am here versus the midnight start you guys had. So, like, it was kind of either way. So I went to bed. I woke up. I stayed off of Twitter. I watched it on delay while I was getting ready to. To go. To go out for.
[01:16:05] Speaker B: You could have woken up at 5:00 your time, Jason. The race just started.
It was almost normal time. Yeah. For the 6:00 clock start.
[01:16:12] Speaker C: Well, well, for me, some traveling, you know. So I got the iPad, which I'm recording on right now. So I turn on the Apple TV and like, the broadcast for. I watched the Sky Sports ones. I like. I like Crofty and the Sky Sports. The broadcast said it was like five and a half hours. I'm like, what the hell? Like, how much. How much pregame was on this thing. And then I'm going through and I'm like, oh, dear God. So, like, I'm like. I'm like fast forwarding on this thing to get. I'm like, when is the race starting? And then, like, it was. It was bad. F1. Apparently we don't race in the rain anymore. You know, you.
[01:16:40] Speaker B: You.
[01:16:40] Speaker C: Back in the day, it was. It was whatever. It had to be a. A literal hurricane or monsoon to do it, but now it's.
[01:16:46] Speaker A: Oh, they were talking match on the broadcast and. And yeah, a lot of the old school guys were saying that, especially on X, but these electrical cars. My daughter was really excited. She's like, why are they stalling out? And Then they're all talking about like, oh, these electrical cars can't go in the rain. We gotta pause things a little bit. Pretty bad.
[01:17:06] Speaker C: Yeah. Utter joke. The formation lap you had Lewis and like all the Ferraris just like shutting down. Like I think Max said lol. Literally on the radio of like look at this, these guys are all stopping. Like it just, just an embarrassment for F1. This is not the first one they've had with these engines throughout the year. They somehow get bailed out to a degree because the race turns up to be kind of okay with some of the chaos. But it's still, it's, it doesn't feel like hey, this is where the peak pinnacle drivers are trying to race motorsports and have a race. It's like, okay, how does my car super clip or how do I get battery charging or like can the electrical stay on or I think Esteban Okon even made a joke over the radio of like oh, I had to like reboot the Windows software or something to get this thing to start or going on.
Yeah, he was joking but I don't doubt it because like there was something going on where like the software.
[01:18:01] Speaker B: That was from the software bug, right?
[01:18:03] Speaker C: Yeah, there was a software bug going on. I'm like, are you kidding me? Like, I mean it's just, just, it's crazy.
The speculation was the reason they have so much this 5050 electrical to internal combustion engine is because that's what like to get Audi in the sport and some of the other stuff, this is what they wanted. But I'm sorry, you can take Audi in their, their 11th and 12th place finishes and get out of here and get me back to this because it is just an utter joke. I don't know what they can do to turn this thing around because the car is going to have to change. They're built in a certain way for how big these motors are to fit in the certain parameters of the car. So changing it to more internal combustion is going to be. Be a bigger workload that I think people want to do. But man, you got the wrong people making the wrong decisions. I think the drivers are more vocal than they probably should have. Like Lando said like this was horrible. Carlos signs was basically like F1 needs to look themselves in the mirror and figure out how the hell we got here. Like it's just.
[01:18:53] Speaker A: I think it'd be reversing track in a few years. I think so. I don't know.
Anyways, race, it's the Bahrain in Malaysia. Lots of rain, monsoon type weather, lots of delays. My daughter passed out hoping to see a race. I passed out hoping to see a race. Wake up, the TV's blaring. Oh. Lap 15, knock back out, wake back up. Lap 36, knock back out, wake Back up. Oh. Three laps to go.
And it was. I don't know.
Verstappen wins.
Kimmy atelier seems to find his way on podium.
The drivers is all but locked up. We've been saying that for a while. And then hamilton took third thoughts on the race real quickly.
That's worse.
[01:19:42] Speaker C: Well, besides the worst being the. The whole engine fiasco and everything like that. I. I mean, and then them not racing in the rain, which has turned into a regular occurrence in modern F1. Two of them not doing this. They. They have a wet tire that they just refuse to use. We only run the intermediate. But, yeah, I think from the get go, Once the race actually started, the choice of tires was right away a thing because ferrari decided that, oh, we're going to run the slicks, we'll run the softs, and everyone else is at intermediates. And Lewis goes from second to 17th, like, in like, record time. He was like a minute behind. And then the other guys too. And then you put yourself in a position at that point where it was like, well, you got to stay out because now your advantage, if the track starts to dry up, you're on. You can't change again. So crazy that lewis was able to finish on the podium. Given for, like, how bad it was. What was taken away from us, I think, Was if they would have put him on the intermediate tire, Was he closer to verstappen? And you had a real battle between two of the legends of the sport that we had One of the historic F1 championship battles in 2021. You had those guys 1, 2 on the pole, and you immediately got taken away and allowed max to have this big win. The ferraris got up to third and fourth. And we're fairly competitive in these environments. If they had the right tire, could have been better. So, I mean, typical historically bad strategy from ferrari.
[01:21:03] Speaker A: How can they get the strategy so wrong? Like, they've done this before. There's only four set of tires to choose from. Like, drying quick. Right?
[01:21:11] Speaker B: Because, like, it was degrees in humidity.
[01:21:13] Speaker C: Yeah. I think that the. The. The assumption they were making Is like, hey, it's drying quick. But I think the problem Aaron said the humidity Is like, like, well, the rain was going away, but, like, it was the. The moisture was staying in the track. And given that everything had washed away, like, it wasn't the, the actual track wasn't drying. It was just staying very humid and they're doing revolutions and like a cool. It's not, it's not actually drying even. Even though there's not rain being there. So I think that was the miscalculation.
It just seemed like, man, like everybody else was on this and you're taking this bold gamble, like I don't know what you're doing, especially when your cars are up front.
So I think that was the biggest misstep. And they still got the. They still got the podium out of. Lewis got lucky because George conked out. But I think it could have been better. You could have had a Lewis and Max kind of showdown for the lead because you saw how quickly like Max was able to get around in some of those conditions around the Mercedes. The Mercedes car wasn't particularly great in this race.
[01:22:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Aaron, comments?
[01:22:14] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean we talked about it. The fiasco to start that race. I mean they. It was a 45 minute delay. We get the two laps around behind the safety car like as a pre. Everybody, you know, mechanical software bug issue.
You know, he mentioned the tires. You know what. Half the field kind of went on slicks, half on intermediates. Everybody that was on slicks was what, 55 seconds to a minute 15 behind.
You get the safety car that comes back out, I don't know, midway through the race kind of, you know, gets everybody bunched back together.
George Russell, I mean Rome, the, the bad luck this guy's had was the second or third race this year where his power unit has gone out with Canada. Now Bahrain, Malaysia race and then I think there was even another one. So his driver's championship hopes are done. They're dead. Kimmy, like all the luck's been on his side. He just keeps getting on the podium. Maybe Trend will reverse McLaren. I mean, Lando had been looking really good, but this was not a good race for them. They just really had no pace at all.
And look, Aston Martin too. I mean Aston Martin's, you know, they've been, they've been doing better these last couple races. So I'm curious. You know, we talked about Audi, you know, not Jason says get rid of them but Aston Martins, their performance has gotten a lot better. Cadillac still the bottom of the pack. Same with team Williams, not been very good. But Aston Martin, these last few races,
[01:23:33] Speaker A: they made some strides and give it up.
[01:23:36] Speaker C: Yeah, I don't know if the last troll is what Fernando Alonzo. Yeah, Alonzo. Alonzo got into the points I was
[01:23:43] Speaker A: gonna say for getting a three million dollar, you know, bonus in his salary for not doing anything so far and for like another two years.
[01:23:53] Speaker C: You know, it helps when your dad like owns a team, you know.
[01:23:56] Speaker A: Oh, that's right. I don't know, I forgot that. All right.
[01:24:01] Speaker C: Yeah, but I mean, I mean, Fernando Alonso, I think you saw the big. And they got the Honda engine, which has been not great because of their bad start to the year. So did they find some pace in that Honda engine? They've upgraded some of the aerodynamic stuff. Like I think you're looking potentially Aston Martin, you know, considering how undriveable the car was. Now they're clear better than Cadillac, who is. They were battling in the back of the pack for most of the year. They're better than Williams probably at this point, which is crazy considering Williams has the Mercedes, the Mercedes powertrain, that's the best one on the grid.
And then Haas really started out okay, but they made like no upgrades. I don't know if they're spending any money at all to improve the Haas car, but they've gotten better than them. So. Yeah, totally agree there. And the progress for the Aston Martin car, I think the other thing I wanted to just hit on was the track itself.
I really kind of felt this is kind of a one off race in Malaysia and this is a track they hadn't been to in like a decade. Plus it's liked by the drivers and I think the engine stuff got in the way of like a really great track. And this is where like my personal liking, I don't like street races for the most rare. I think all of these ones they continually put on street courses are not the best for racing. And it's not all of them. Some of it's in the design.
But specifically like the Madrid one was just an awful race and there's a brand new design you can't pass and everything which about it. But you go to these proper circuits that are done like Malaysia, you think the Silverstone, which is one of my favorite, or Spa, or the Hungry Ring, all this type of stuff there. But this is a proper circuit in Malaysia and not being on this calendar, this was a good race for them to show, hey, this is a really good track that we should potentially go back to.
And I think it kind of got under underwhelmed to all the controversy surrounding the race was like, hey, there's some cool stuff where drivers can make passes. You can have some good racing here on a circuit like this. So that was kind of the disappointment to me because I was looking forward to them racing in something different than some of this other stuff that's been put on the F1 calendar over the past five years.
[01:26:10] Speaker B: It was a spacious track and I mean there was a lot of passing room. I know they're talking about maybe getting it back on the calendar in 2030.
So that's, you know, obviously it comes down to finances. That's why it got removed before they mentioned they just didn't have the finances to keep the race there.
And then, I mean I don't know if we touched upon it but you know, Esteban Ocon is going to be gone. I think his driver's seat is going to become open. Right.
[01:26:34] Speaker A: So he's, he's done at the end of the season there.
[01:26:37] Speaker C: Yeah, that's probably the only change I think is going to happen to the entire field. It seems like everyone else is resigned.
I know the rumors around who will replace him is probably one of the Ferrari developmental drivers in F2 right now that I, I think like towards the top of the standings. But yeah, I mean Okon, I think he's a very, he's got a very, I try to think of the best words to describe Okon's I think has a very reputation kind of behind the scenes. I think he's a he. I think he's kind of hard to get along with. He is no filter. That guy gives a lot of feedback. It ended badly at Alpine.
Didn't seem to go particularly well with Haas. At the same time too in another world this guy's driving for the Mercedes team and he's, he's got one of those careers that like things happened and then he didn't get the shot that he probably was because he was in the Mercedes driver program and because Nico Rosberg unexpectedly retired after winning the championship, he wasn't quite ready. Was Ocon and it went to Valtteri Bottas and then Okon ended up like getting the ride with the Renault Alpine team at a certain point instead of Mercedes. But in another life, man, this guy potentially it was Lewis Hamilton's teammate during the heyday run and potentially being kind of what George Russell is now. So. But I think the sucky thing for him is like I think he's out of F1 because I don't know, I mean maybe it's a reserve driver at Mercedes but they already got one guy behind them that's been the reserve driver for a while, Frederick Vessi.
Don't know what he could do. So like does Okon look at him. He still thinks he's an F1 driver, which I know these guys do because they're the best in the world. But I don't know if he's going to have a spot if it's reserve driver or does he try IndyCar or something like that. A certain point would be kind of a crossroads for him now that he's had his second chance with Haas and it didn't work.
[01:28:34] Speaker B: Crazy.
[01:28:34] Speaker A: I didn't even know that was happening.
When's the next race?
[01:28:38] Speaker B: Sunday morning.
[01:28:38] Speaker A: Right?
[01:28:39] Speaker C: It's Sunday morning now. It's the. I think we have. It's three consecutive triple headers that go on in this calendar right now. So they're. They're going just straight down. They're staying in Malaysia, going from Sapan down to Singapore.
[01:28:54] Speaker A: Kind of cool.
[01:28:55] Speaker C: So Valtteri Botas, if you're seeing he's riding his bike to the track, I don't know if you saw that on X because he's a big mountain biking guy. Guy. Yeah. He's riding his bike from. From Sapan down to Singapore.
[01:29:08] Speaker A: That's pretty cool.
[01:29:09] Speaker C: Yeah, he's quite the outdoorsman.
[01:29:11] Speaker B: But probably, that's probably a good idea because the Cadillac ain't gonna make it there anyways. It's gonna break down. So it's just a good idea. The only thing Cadillac's got going for it is they got some nice gear there at circa down there at the store.
[01:29:23] Speaker A: Do they got some nice gear, I gotta say.
[01:29:26] Speaker B: Nice hoodies, dude.
[01:29:28] Speaker A: Their apparel is really cool. For sure.
[01:29:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:29:31] Speaker C: Okay.
[01:29:31] Speaker A: All right.
[01:29:31] Speaker C: Well, that's good. I mean, it's something. I mean it's year one for Cadillac. Give them some grace.
[01:29:35] Speaker B: You know, they were giving. I was asking for a bigger discount when I was down there. I said, hey, they are what, you know, 21 and 22 on the grid. Like, can we get a little more discount down there?
[01:29:43] Speaker A: 50 is not enough.
[01:29:45] Speaker C: No.
[01:29:46] Speaker A: They were nice gear though. It was a nice sweater. I wouldn't mind rocking one.
[01:29:51] Speaker C: Yeah. But Singapore this weekend, another street circuit, hot race, man. This is the one like this one's like on the equator, I think down there in Singapore. So this is another night race somewhere to Vegas. But this one's a hot one.
[01:30:05] Speaker A: More humidity.
[01:30:07] Speaker C: Yeah. And you'll.
There is some passing in this track, but not a ton. There's only. There's like maybe one or two spots where you can really get it going in this street circuit. So we'll be interesting on, you know, what we can get out of this. Hopefully no weather on this one since we don't race in the rain anymore.
[01:30:24] Speaker A: What time is that?
[01:30:25] Speaker C: It's probably 4am Right?
[01:30:27] Speaker B: 5am it's showing 5.
[01:30:29] Speaker A: 5am I could probably do that. Oh no.
[01:30:31] Speaker B: I mean this is really. I mean this is our last real early start then we're. We basically are all early morning. Not early morning but morning early afternoon starts after this one.
[01:30:43] Speaker A: Love it.
[01:30:44] Speaker B: Until the last place.
[01:30:45] Speaker C: Well we get into. We into our hemisphere for a little while because you got the US gp, the Mexican GP and then the Brazilian Grand Prix and then you have a break and then you get. Then you get Vegas and then they fly all the way over to Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
[01:30:59] Speaker A: So allegedly are they, are they going
[01:31:00] Speaker B: to finish those two there? Are we going to go back to Malaysia or.
[01:31:05] Speaker C: On the broadcast they said that F1 announced that they intended to do those races. Like when I was going through the five hour broadcast throughout there they said that they had mentioned that weekend that they intended intended to race because I
[01:31:19] Speaker B: think Spain and Barcelona were interested in the second one. Even the Italian Grand Prix was interested in hosting it if necessary. Even Spa too right. I believe so.
[01:31:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:31:30] Speaker C: Yeah I think the likely one was probably Italy because it was gonna be. It was gonna be the.
[01:31:37] Speaker B: The track they can. Well I guess Kimmy will probably already have a championship wrapped up by then anyways.
[01:31:43] Speaker A: Isn't already.
[01:31:43] Speaker C: Yeah.
It wasn't going to be where the Italian GP was at though. It was going to be the other circuit that came off the calendar this last season because it's pretty much F1 ready and ready to go. I think that was. And they'd only do that one race was the thing but it seems like their confidence they get the that those
[01:32:00] Speaker A: races in cool why they should be
[01:32:02] Speaker B: able to nothing but rich people down there anyways.
[01:32:04] Speaker A: Yeah it's no war.
[01:32:05] Speaker C: Yeah I, I think Qatar is probably in a similar you know.
[01:32:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:32:11] Speaker A: Situation too far away. It's far enough away. But yeah who knows anything could happen for them.
[01:32:19] Speaker C: I'm guessing they probably are taking into account that because you know the, the. The. The American out of all of it, you know we're probably self important making this so the election will be over by that time and so then nothing will to be said by the time we're getting into late November, early December that there's nothing has to be done at that point.
[01:32:37] Speaker A: I mean our government's probably the most unpredictable one out of everything kind of throwing thing in a loop so.
[01:32:43] Speaker C: I agree but there's also like we if you're going to ramp up the war. I think it's always just usually some sort of election topic. Once the election's over, then everything kind of goes out the window. But yeah, you never know with this stuff at this point.
[01:32:55] Speaker A: You never know. All right, we covered a lot today. College football, NFL, F1, even a little baseball.
[01:33:03] Speaker B: Pretty good.
[01:33:05] Speaker A: We're in the thick of it. Hockey just started as well. I'm already looking at San Jose tickets.
Might try to catch up my. Try to catch Pittsburgh while they're in town. Looking at the Anaheim Ducks as well.
It's time, man. It's go time right now.
Lots of good.
[01:33:19] Speaker C: Yeah, I mean, I mean, I'm gonna stay in baseball season a little bit longer as well. Yeah. Because the Blackhawks started owing three and they look rough, so they don't look good. They had a bad west coast swing there. They do not look good.
[01:33:34] Speaker A: So you missed them in Vegas. Aaron was there.
[01:33:37] Speaker C: I did miss them in Vegas, but it was. I was for better off because they looked terrible.
[01:33:42] Speaker B: They lost, what, five, two that opener. So.
[01:33:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:33:45] Speaker B: Rough.
[01:33:46] Speaker A: Rough.
All right, cool. Can't wait to do the Wise Guys later on this week. More Lions. College football getting back on track with all of us on the pod. Should be a lot of fun. Hopefully we get some guest speakers or guests, guys to talk. A little baseball coming up.
Keep on following us on the socials, sources from the sofa on Instagram, Facebook, X. Same thing with the sofa. Wise guys.
Lots of stuff happening. Lots of stuff happening. Time to take the Adderall. Or as Sniper said, a line would never hurt.
That was funny.
[01:34:25] Speaker C: I, I did see that. I'm like, man, you guys get me off the pod and you get, you do the other podcast, Rod, with Sniper and like, you know, it's, it's X rated over there, man. Geez.
[01:34:35] Speaker B: Hey, he, he, he, he. He was texting around one like 11:30. Hey, who do I bet for? F1. I got the line out. I'm ready to go. I'm like, hey, all right, here. Here you go.
[01:34:44] Speaker A: Ready to go. Yeah.
[01:34:45] Speaker B: He might be disappointed since it was a two hour delay. We'll find out when we talk to him on Wednesday.
[01:34:50] Speaker A: That was rough. That was rough.
[01:34:51] Speaker B: It was rough.
[01:34:53] Speaker A: All right.
We'll try to get an update from Jason after game three as well.
