[00:00:03] Speaker A: Welcome back everybody. This is sources from the sofa and I am Rome accompanied by Aaron Toller and Jason Zinke. Full starting lineup or as they like to call themselves the backups here at the Source. [00:00:18] Speaker B: Pretty playing a pretty prominent role right now early in the season. So everywhere. Happy to be here man. [00:00:23] Speaker A: Getting paid everywhere. [00:00:25] Speaker C: Super busted. Torres ACL or something. So we got the call. [00:00:29] Speaker A: This week was weird for college football. Actually great college football went really good for you guys. I I stand by my picks. I feel like I got robbed at the end on a couple of them. We will talk about that as well on this pod we were recording Monday night moments after the Rams finally look like the Rams. They got that Australian hangover out of them and they took care of business in Los Angeles against the New York Giants. Partially also because Jackson Dart got hurt on the first drive. That did not look good and it was kind of like somber after that. But I did play a little parlay on Kalshee with Matt Stafford got some winnings back from some bad calls on putting money on unc. So I'm pretty happy about that. Well and I also won my fantasy week again from another come from behind victory with Matthew Stafford as a starting quarterback. Thank you. I did not put Drake May in there because that would have cost me. That would have cost me dearly. But let's get into it. Rams 28 6. They take care of business. Looked really good. Aaron Donald came back out of retirement. Played about like 30 or 40 snaps I believe looked solid per usual. Overall, Stafford bounced back really big. Had more than 320something yards of the day, four touchdowns. Two of them two Devonte Adams, Aaron Rodgers, former teammates who's now balling out with a quarterback that can get the ball in his hands and that's all she wrote. Man, pretty good victory brought some balance back in the NFL. We had some interesting results this week. Thoughts on this one before we get into the rest of it. [00:02:16] Speaker C: Well, for the Giants I think the mood for them was pretty subdue after was the opening drive or at least the first few minutes with Jackson Dart so obviously took some steam out of what their offense could be and how dynamic it was. I think there were some other close calls and injuries. I know we'll talk more about that throughout the pod. But you had neighbors and likely with some potential injuries I think in the first half as well. So I mean overall this was the dominant Rams team that most people expected throughout the entire season. Know offense and defense well put together. The Giants after week one, you know, a little Unfortunate for them considering how good they looked and how overall complimentary between the run and pass was in week one versus the Cowboys. But still was a Cowboys defense last week with a lot of question marks to it. But again, for the Rams, offense was clicking, defense was dominant and I think going from here, I mean, this is probably what the Rams expect to look like for the rest of the season. I guess if they're, you know, not flying across the world and having a questionable strategy for how to beat jet lag, they're okay being in their standard time zone. [00:03:27] Speaker B: Yeah, Rams got back to business. Picking up a nice win here. I mean, they were about Puka who was out the hip injury, but yeah, Romy touched on it. The Giants basically like never had much of a chance. When dart went out there in that first series, kind of the life went out of their sails there. Neighbors kind of got hurt too, came back, but only I think one catch for one yard. Is that what I saw here? [00:03:53] Speaker A: He should have got more than that. [00:03:54] Speaker B: One catch for one yard. [00:03:55] Speaker A: Really? [00:03:56] Speaker B: So one catch for one yard, Four targets. They just, you know, Jameis looked rusty. I mean, obviously, you know, you're the backup quarterback. You're coming into a game. I thought the Rams, I, you know, week one to week two, big difference. You know, you guys touched on the time zone travel there. But to me, their defense was a lot more aggressive. I mean, they just purely played zone against the 49ers. I had no clue what they were doing. You don't play zone against Brock Purdy and those guys. You got to challenge his wide receivers, make him make tight throws. They did that a lot today. Got a couple interceptions for the Giants. Look, this was always going to be a tough game. They play Sunday night, emotional game coming off a 25 year anniversary of 911 travel across country. Monday night. Like I said, Rome, Aaron Donald would be back for this game to get that spark that the Rams needed. Even though they're trying to play coy on him coming back to play. And Stafford, I mean, he missed some open throws in Week 1 against the Niners. The tape didn't look good. We said, hey, is this guy really washed up and old? You know, today tries were like that. Yeah, yeah, he was like 327, four touchdowns today. Devonte Adams shows why he's a. Probably a. I'm gonna say it right now. He's the first ballot hall of Famer of 100 plus plus TD catches. Big win for the Rams. They needed it because they had Sunday night to take on the Denver Broncos in week three, in which, you know, whoever loses that game will be one [00:05:18] Speaker A: and two, they're one of the few teams that have a really tough schedule over the next six, seven weeks. So definitely a big win there. Yeah, devonte looked really good. Definitely hall of Famer. He had a nice catch that kind of opened things up. I believe it was the middle or the end of the first quarter, kind of reached up, got a ball that kind of sell away from Stafford. And I think it was that play he broke away and finished a 31 yard touchdown reception. And they were feeling it. Man, it was good to see. I'm not a big Rams guy. I'm not. That's not my team. But, you know, [00:05:55] Speaker B: I mean, you're talking about going to the game all week. Rome. [00:05:57] Speaker A: I wanted to go to the game. I couldn't find anyone to go to the game with me. I found some pretty decent tickets. I was like, maybe Aaron Dolla plays. And then. And then supposedly he wasn't gonna play. And then by the time, like halfway up here, it's like, oh, he is gonna play. I'm like, God, I should just went by myself. [00:06:12] Speaker B: But I told you he was gonna play. I told you that on what Thursday? [00:06:15] Speaker A: I didn't want to do like, what's that rapper? He like stuff like one of his girlfriends's trunk. I couldn't leave my dog in the trunk, you know, throughout the Rams game. Not in la, can't do that. [00:06:25] Speaker C: So I don't think you leave your dog in a truck regardless. With city or in Rome. [00:06:31] Speaker B: I was gonna say, I think your dog's been in worse situations. To be fair to him. [00:06:35] Speaker A: To be fair. [00:06:37] Speaker B: All right. [00:06:37] Speaker C: Doesn't sound like he's being fair to him at all. [00:06:39] Speaker B: No. [00:06:41] Speaker A: No. All right. So pretty big win this week was quite interesting. Not as high scoring as the weeks prior. We've had a lot of injuries now in week one and week two. More importantly, Jason, let's just talk about your quarterback. Dude. Dude, going down, can't walk. Got the card ceremony. [00:07:01] Speaker B: Trying to pull. [00:07:02] Speaker A: It's not a Kobe Bryant, you know, Achilles tear. It's more like the Paul Pierce wheelchair ceremony. Because he'll probably be back next week. Okay as hell, dude. I love social repping him a new one. All day long. I've been sharing with other friends as well. Let's talk about that injury because he just has a strain. But is it like. It's not even a grade one. I'm not even hearing a grade one strain on the hammy. [00:07:28] Speaker C: They said grade One. [00:07:29] Speaker A: They did, yeah. [00:07:31] Speaker B: Rome. [00:07:31] Speaker C: I, I just think you're really underestimating the power of prayer and the Pope Leo, you know, really coming on down to the city of Chicago and you know, blessing us or if, if the Pope, you know, a little busy over there in the Vatican. You know, maybe you're just not acknowledging the healing superpowers of Caleb Williams. Like he might be Wolverine. I mean he was legit injured and it automatically, you know, within 24 hours, you know, got it back and just ultra healed himself. So I, I just think, you know, we don't respect the premier athlete that Caleb Williams is. I don't to have what could have been a season ending injury, but you [00:08:10] Speaker B: know, he's going to be back. [00:08:10] Speaker C: I don't think he's going to play in week two, Rome, because that'd be ridiculous. But I, I think he healed himself well enough to probably play in week [00:08:19] Speaker A: three or four, I would say, or four or five. [00:08:22] Speaker C: Sorry. [00:08:23] Speaker A: Yeah. You know, if anyone's out there, go ahead and rough up that leg a little bit because you should miss at least three weeks after that performance leaving the stadium and thinking like, oh, this guy is done. The big old fist pumps and the 80s style porn mustache. Like, look at Epic, man. It was like a, it was video to behold and social media just loving it all throughout. Like, oh, my legs fell asleep on the toilet. [00:08:47] Speaker B: Like that was this Danny Glover and Lethal Weapon. The legs fall asleep. [00:08:53] Speaker A: Yeah, no, it was. So many good memes about it, man. He, he was ripped a new one by Sony podcast too. But I'm glad your team is okay. You, you're probably feeling pretty good. [00:09:06] Speaker C: I'm feeling okay. I mean, better than I was in the game. I'm, I, I may or may not have sent Texas to my friends and others who were giving me a hard time of how bad the Bears offense was in week two. After pronouncing they were going to score 60 points a game and they couldn't, [00:09:20] Speaker A: Ben Johnson turned to Shane Gillis, like, what happened to that? [00:09:23] Speaker C: I don't think it has much to do with that. I think the weather, obviously they're playing in a torrential downpour in the terrible turf that is Soldier Field. So I think that had a lot to do with it. But I think also within that there was a ton that wasn't Caleb Williams's fault. The offensive line, particular people, Bradbury, the center who is, you know, they brought in after Drew Dolman's untimely retirement last year. He was awful. And other parts of the offense, the Bears couldn't get out of their own way when it came to penalties in the game and kept stalling drives. And the biggest thing out of that game for me and I mentioned on the pre pod Sam Roush, he was one of the Bears draft picks this last year. Tight end. He's the Bears third tight end. My myself and many other Bear fans wondering why was this man so important to the game plan that he was being hit in key moments that he dropped the ball which would have been a touchdown on the play prior to Caleb getting hurt. He was the protection on the blocked field goal on the ensuing play after Caleb got hurt or the guy got by and blocked it. He dropped other key passes and all and whiffed on some other three field goals that almost got blocked earlier in the game for the Bears only three points. This guy was just, it's just an under moment things where it's like if, if you aren't a person who's tied into film study and all that stuff. This was an obvious thing. If you're watching this game of like why is this guy in the game right now? Why is he getting these big moments as a second, you know, the second game of his professional career. You didn't hear about Colston Loveland or Kyle Manungai last year and or even Luther Burden until like halfway through the season. It was like the Bengals game or something when you really heard these guys coming. But for whatever reason we have Cole Comet and Colson Loveland who's been almost, you know, non existent for the first two games. But you got the third string tight end taking into this game which really just, I think just deflated the Bears in some key moments. But besides that penalties got in the way, some poor execution. You know, Ben Johnson's going to clean this up. But this was a Bears like Achilles heel last year was penalties. Now the other thing I'm going to say Rome the Bears tax and penalties. Dear God. They didn't. They. Their, their punt returner gets hit out of bounds, both feet out of bounds and no personal foul call on. That was one of the most egregious calls of the weekend. I don't care what anyone says. Did you see that one Rome? [00:11:46] Speaker B: That was late in his day, I think. Well no, they threw a flag and then they, they threw a flag for a guy supposedly that flopped on the sideline, right. That the guy like bumped into him later and he took a dive but they didn't see the play. Like he's talking about like basically the guy fair caught it out of bounds and then it was like a two second count. I mean, if that had been a quarterback, it would have been two penalties for roughing the pass or 30 yard penalty. But yeah, look, the Bears did not look good. I mean, they. I mean, look, I think the rain had a lot to do with it. But give. Give Brian Flores a ton of credit. Look, I mean, this guy, these first two weeks is just going balls to the wall on fire. He's blitzing 80% of all pass downs and he does not care. He's bringing five, he's bringing six. Heck, he'll bring seven and play cover zero. And he did a great job. Look, the Bears did not do a good job adjusting to it. They tried to get this run game going in the second half. They did a little bit. But look, I mean, look, if you're the Bears, I'm not worried. We know Ben Johnson's a great O.C. he'll get these guys going. But the more concerning thing for me is look at the O. Line play was not good. But the penalties, they had bad, bad penalties. And Swift. I mean, this guy's got a home to the ball. I mean, he holds on to the ball. They get points on that drive. The field goal. Yeah, but look at the. The placeholder. He did bobble the snap. I think that's what led to the field goal getting blocked. I mean, you can blame it on Sam Roush all you want, parts blame for it. But to me, the bubble of the snap, it was wet. You know, timing was off. The kid gets blocked. Give Minnesota a ton of credit. I mean, they go in there, got a big win. No one's really talking about that. I thought the Bears were one of the top plays in the week. Big win. I mean, Carson Wentz gets two wins in the division. [00:13:26] Speaker A: Yeah, no great. He's done good in relief. [00:13:29] Speaker B: It's nice because this division to me really is wide open. [00:13:32] Speaker A: Detroit 100. [00:13:33] Speaker B: They got blown out Thursday night. They don't look like the same team that we saw get to the NFC championship game a few years ago. I believe the window probably has closed. We'll see. The Packers, I mean, they continue. They continue to look shaky. [00:13:47] Speaker A: Luckily, I won my money back on that game against the Jets. Jesus. [00:13:50] Speaker B: And Minnesota is, you know, Jekyll and Hyde. One year they're good, the next year they suck. This year they're supposed to be good. And so far, they've started that way. [00:13:59] Speaker A: Yeah. What's up with Colston Loveland, though, man? I got him. My fantasy got him At a really high draft pick here. One reception, three yards. [00:14:08] Speaker C: Well, I mean, this what I'm talking about in this. I mean, the Bears got a lot of weapons [00:14:15] Speaker A: reincarnated right now. [00:14:17] Speaker C: I don't think definitely that he was. He was part. He was part of some opportunities here and there. They just couldn't get him the ball. But I. But this is where I'm talking about the Sam Roush of it all. If, like how he was involved in certain things that Loveland wasn't. So I think you're going to see some big games pop off for him. I'm not overly concerned about that. There's a reason Ben Johnson drafted him because there is going to be some emphasis on the tight end and the sets they're playing. I think. I think overall, offensively there wasn't much they can do it. There was never any rhythm in the passing game. And the offensive line Aaron mentioned that was what made the Bears great last year, was the investment they made in the offensive line. I'll talk about Garrett Bradbury again. You know, Drew Dahlman retiring, I was very scared. It was the one thing about the Bears offseason that was bad. It was unexpected retirement. They invested in him, Jackson and. And the left guard in the off season and Joe Tunney and like that was the key portion last year of getting the run game going. So when you look at the Bears, there's a lot on Caleb and I'm going to be the defender of Caleb because, you know, he's the best quarterback in Bears history, you know, three years in already. But the running game is what made this team effective last year. And the key to the 59 points in Week 1 was how dominant they had two running backs go for 100 yards. And that game, it's the offensive line making the push. So if Bradbury, he had a lot of procedural penalies and if there's things in the offensive line not clicking, that's how the Bears can't do everything. The penalties, as Aaron and I both mentioned, a huge deal with it. So that stuff is going to impact the amount of stuff Loveland gets and some of the other stuff in the passing game because that's setting up all the stuff downfield that they can do. So I wouldn't worry about it, Rome. I have Colson in some fantasy as well, too. [00:15:55] Speaker A: I'm definitely worried. [00:15:56] Speaker C: I'm definitely not worried because I think there's going to be something there. You're going to play in better conditions now. I think there's a lot to learn from this tape as they move forward next week, though, I mean, you're, you're not going to have Caleb. I don't think he's, he's me playing. It's, it's, it's going to be Tyson Bagen playing in this game. But, I mean, on the last drive, Bajan was able to put the ball on a few receivers and make, and make some plays. There's some opportunity there. Definitely not the same zip on the ball as Caleb. It's, it's, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a. You tell the difference between Caleb's ball and Bajan's ball. And anyone not watching this, I know there's a bunch of, you know, Bears fans out there who still believe the backup quarterback's the best thing since sliced bread. [00:16:32] Speaker A: I'm sure you got a lot of. Yeah, yeah. [00:16:34] Speaker C: But there, there, there is some opportunity there and, but I think there's some dynamic playmaking that he can make that showed towards the end of the game. So. Well, I, I think it's just, could be an overreaction, but I think you're definitely going to see a different Bears team come. But it's going to be a tough, it's a tough matchup next week. You're going to have, you're going to go against a tough defensive line in Philadelphia, and this is not an easy game on Monday Night Football to play Monday night. [00:16:55] Speaker A: Dude, that's been so much fun. That's been so much fun. All right. I didn't mean to spend so much time on a team that only scored three points this past week. [00:17:03] Speaker C: Wow. [00:17:03] Speaker A: But I would like to talk about. [00:17:05] Speaker B: Wait, wait, wait. I think, I think another person's team only scored three points this week. Do we want to go to that game? Rome. [00:17:12] Speaker A: What? [00:17:13] Speaker B: Maybe he's not even worth talking about. Your Pittsburgh Steelers. Rome, you're Pittsburgh. Talk about three points. [00:17:19] Speaker A: We'll get some when we get some. All right. [00:17:21] Speaker B: Okay. [00:17:21] Speaker A: We're gonna talk about big wins this week. Not just. I, I can only put up three points because it's raining outside and, and my quarterback got a little hammy scare, you know? [00:17:34] Speaker B: Hey, at least. I'll say this. At least the Bears threatened to put up double digit points. I don't even know if the Steelers cross midfield in this game, to tell you the truth. [00:17:42] Speaker A: No, they crossed with one time. [00:17:44] Speaker B: I think, I think. [00:17:45] Speaker A: Terrible. They look terrible every time. [00:17:47] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:47] Speaker C: Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers said in the post game he's got to do a better job at telling the Coaches, I heard it. [00:17:53] Speaker A: I don't want to talk about them right now. All right. Disgusting. Like for the first time since I've been a Steelers fan. All right. Back in the drone Bettis days. I have no hope. I have no hope. [00:18:07] Speaker B: Rome. Your own daughter doesn't even watch. Want to watch the Steelers? [00:18:10] Speaker A: My daughter, they made my daughter cry. This weekend we're watching the game. She's wearing her Steelers jersey. We're feeling pretty pumped. All right. We're doing some activities. And then it's like around the third quarter, she's like, can we just change it from this game to. They're making me sad because they're not playing good. They're not doing good. Like she. It. [00:18:34] Speaker B: It. [00:18:34] Speaker A: It was a miserable game. It was rough. It was rough. Congratulations. [00:18:40] Speaker B: I think we brought. I think we've talked enough about the Steelers. [00:18:42] Speaker A: I don't know if I had them. I think like at 9, 10 wins, I think this might be the first time it's over. [00:18:50] Speaker B: Reaction time. [00:18:51] Speaker A: But I, I mean they've got a. [00:18:52] Speaker B: They've got a lot to fix. [00:18:54] Speaker A: They look like a six win team if that. It's bad. McCarthy looks lost. You know, I think he's afraid of Rogers. I think Rogers is afraid of McCarthy. This, this, this is why you don't get remarried. A huge falling out. It was disgusting. This is why you don't remarry. The one that you divorced. Granted for those that have married their ex wives three times, four times. I know it's very common in some parts of America. It usually doesn't work out though. It's not. [00:19:21] Speaker B: Maybe it's not a good marriage time. It will. [00:19:23] Speaker A: It was disgusting. And Patriots didn't even play good. That's even worse. They didn't. They don't even look good yet. Drake Wayne doesn't even look good yet. But let's talk about teams that looked good. Big victories this week because we used to do that last year. I know we didn't do that last week, but big victories, a few nominations for best win of the week. I would say the Bills. Bills looked phenomenal opening up at home in that gleaming, sparkly new stadium with so much obstruction for the fans in 3rd, 4th and 5th level. Gotta love it. Bengals still don't look great. Joe Burrow still knocking off a lot of rust, but they took care of business. And their defense hounded Stroud all day. Holding the six points. I thought that was a pretty big win. Another one. Saints. They put the Lions. They should have won. They got a touchdown. Gyps from them. Win for two in overtime, lost. All good. [00:20:26] Speaker B: Look, I think the replay committee did him a favor because I don't think Shuck got in for a touchdown. [00:20:30] Speaker A: That final QB Snake yeah, probably not. No. [00:20:33] Speaker B: Someone mentioned that this was a I think they owed. I think they owed the Saints one maybe. [00:20:38] Speaker A: But they took care of business against the Ravens. Ravens. They look like the Ravens again. Harbaugh's not there but they did the same dumb plays and gave up a big lead. That was a big victory to me. Those are the biggest wins this week. Those are the biggest wins this week and I'll just say the team that looked the best I probably see the 49ers. They look phenomenal. [00:21:01] Speaker B: I know the team in the league [00:21:03] Speaker A: too Rome it is in the score at the end, you know, but they took care of business right from the get go. They were up big and then you know it should be a bigger blowout but they look really good despite being depleted with all the injuries from the substation. So those are my nominees for best games. Best looking teams of the week. Thoughts on any of those? [00:21:25] Speaker C: Yeah, I think the team that stood out to me, we talked about it in the preview at least a couple weeks ago as we look forward to this week was Bengals Texans could have been an AFC Championship preview based on some of some of our preseason predictions. Both of you guys have been high on the Texans here, you know for two seasons now, especially what they have defensively and you know the Bengals I would say didn't look great. Agree with you wrong. But this is a game, you know, hey you got to gut it out. You got to have your big players make plays and Jamar Chase, you know made some big plays in that game. They went into into Houston to get this win. Know this is a team that has had a lot of promise the past couple seasons but you know last season start two and six. Three seasons prior they're starting four and four. So as much offensive potential they've continue had with Burrow and Chase and all the offensive weapons they've had. There's been questions about the offensive line, questions of the defense. Them coming out 20 and playing a good Texas team I think is a big win. So that would have been the first one stood out to me and then I think second, you know when you look at the Chiefs to me on the Sunday Night Football I was higher in the Chiefs than both of you guys. I think Aaron said they're going to finish like last and have the first overall pick or something in the season preview But I mean, you know, two and all right, they're two zero right now. And you know, I, I think Patrick Mahomes definitely not the player he was with Tyree Kill, but the, the Kenneth Walker edition. You know, we're two weeks in right now. This. Is this the first real running back that he's had probably since like the early Kareem Hunt type of days before [00:22:59] Speaker A: they had last week? Yeah. [00:23:01] Speaker C: Okay, missed it. Sorry. You know, good point. But I mean, I think that offense in that team looks a little bit, A little bit different. And so with the Chargers falling flat in their face to start the season and what they're going to be, the Broncos, I know I, I shocked Aaron with what the Broncos could have been early part of their season. They still got a couple hard games but left to play. But the Chiefs jump out to a big start in this division. They look really solid offensively. And if they're going to be working everything from the ground game and not having Mahomes do a type of things, this is where I think some of the coaching right here. Are we. What are we what, 10 year 10 of Patrick Mahomes or something like that? Early on he was able to get away with a lot of stuff. The athletic ability obviously isn't what it once was, but the past couple years the offense is having great. He was just doing, I think, too much. And right now, can he sit within kind of the system a little more and just douse some of the Patrick Holmes magic, but rely on what Kenneth Walker has to offer. Effort to open some of the other wide receivers up downfield? I think is effective and I think so throughout the two weeks. I like what the Chiefs put out there. [00:23:59] Speaker A: Yeah, I, I know Aaron was still a little more critical. We're doing the Lions this past week, but based on week one and now week two, the arm looks really strong. He was actually quicker than he's been in like three seasons. He has the best running back he's had ever. And that's including like when they won a few chips. And then the defense, it's not terrible. You know, Spags is doing what he does best. And Rashi Rice coming back from like, all the legal troubles, you know, didn't get a touchdown this time, but still caught eight or nine passes, got decent yardage, helped move the chains. Kelsey even played pretty big this past week looking vintage, although I still think he looks really slow. But, you know, everyone's on his already. But they look really good, though. They look really good. Really, really surprising. And that's not good. [00:24:48] Speaker B: Look man, everybody's jumping on the Chiefs bandwagon, so I guess I'll be the voice of reason here. They have been pretty good here these first two weeks and. But look, look at Kenneth Walker. He's a beast. But you know, durability has always been a question mark with him. I mean he got hurt towards the end of Pete Carroll's Jr. There. You know, they ran him a ton. That's why they brought in Charbonnet. They wanted to split the workload. He kind of left there because he didn't want to be a split running back. So to me, can Kenneth Walker hold up for 17 games plus playoffs? Let's see. But if he does a plus running back, no doubt about it. Travis Kelsey has looked good too. But again, what will the season do? As you get the wear and tear gets on you. This defense. Young gave up 30 points last week or this week against the Colts. Colts were about their best wide receiver in Piers. They got a nice schedule here. The Chiefs do with the Dolphins who they will hopefully crush. That'll be probably one of a big circa play for all the circuit guys out there that have gotten eliminated. And then they've got the. What do they got after that? The lonely. Well, they got the Raiders. So the Raiders been pretty good. Then they get a bye week and then they get the Chargers. I like what the Chiefs are doing right now, man. I mean look, I, I picked them and finished third. Not get the first pick overall in the draft but in that division and it looks like they're probably. They got a good chance to win the division if they can stay healthy. But like this defense, like I said, is still young. They got rid of a lot of players that you know, basically are playing for the Rams now it seems like Mahomes, he's got, you know, he's looked good but early in the season they were. They were last year I think they were like 8 and 3 or 8 and 4 sometime at one point and then lost like six of their final eight games, whatever it was. Yeah, yeah. Hold the, hold the boat on the Chiefs, man. [00:26:34] Speaker A: Big win though against the Colts. I thought the Colts brought it pretty well. Some mistakes. Not a big fan of the play calling in overtime, but it is what it is. All right. Disappointing games. I will nominate my Steelers there. I think they're the one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL so far. Besides the Falcons. [00:26:56] Speaker B: I think Falcons the most disappointing team is the Chargers. You lose two games at home as a touchdown or more favored in both and that schedule coming up. I, I, I mean look, The Steelers were 56 point underdog against the Patriots. [00:27:12] Speaker A: You know what? I blame Justin Herbert once he got engaged to his, his girl next door. Phenomenal. Good looking fiance. It's so easy to get lost in the clouds and that's the way he looks. [00:27:25] Speaker B: I mean he does look lost but they got a lot more problems than just Justin Herbert. But yeah, for me for disappointing teams that goes to the top, I mean the Falcons, I, the Falcons, we'll find out what kind of team they are going forward. I mean they're basically playing on a hand me down quarterback right now. So I don't even count them as a team. [00:27:42] Speaker A: Right next is coming back this week. [00:27:44] Speaker B: Yeah, packers room. [00:27:46] Speaker A: I think that might be my play for upset of the week actually. [00:27:50] Speaker B: It's enticing but I wouldn't bet it. I, I would, I would take, I would take the points if you're gonna go it not Moneyline on the Falcons. [00:27:56] Speaker A: Yeah, definitely take the points. [00:27:58] Speaker C: Yeah, I, I agree with Aaron going back to the Chargers. I think the Chargers are the lone runaway winner and I, I don't know Aaron if it's much more than Justin Herbert at this point because are we at year seven of Justin Herbert right now? Is that what year we're at right now? I mean when, when are we going to have the conversation where this, everyone keeps telling me this guy is the elite quarterback he's supposed to be. They drafted, they draft him two first round pick on, on each tackle. He's got a, you know, first round level running back, you know, has had weapons at wide receiver and all this stuff. And when is, when is he going to take the step? And you know we talked about Josh Allen at a certain point, you know, taking a step to the next stop. I mean 14 points in two consecutive games since two bad teams. I, I, I misspoke about the Broncos going 0 and 5 early, Aaron. I mean the next schedule for the Chargers at Bills at Seahawks with the Broncos at Chiefs at Rams vs. The Texans at Ravens, like I mean they might get one win in there. [00:28:56] Speaker A: I was actually talking to Aaron about this earlier because if you look at the Rams schedule the next six, seven weeks, it looks very similar to this one. This one's a little tougher. But if the Chargers are lucky, they get two wins. Worst case scenario, you're hoping if they actually put their together maybe they go 500. But it's a tough stretch. [00:29:16] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean it is a tough stretch. Like they're going to Buffalo. Look, I'LL say right now, I don't see them winning at Buffalo and at Seattle. Let's just be honest. So their next best chance is a divisional game against the Broncos. Look, we all know divisional games. What other division step, friend? We got competitive matchups. They usually are close regardless of record. But look, Herbert has not looked good. I think, you know, a lot has to do. Look, the offensive line last year was banged up and look, the tackles have not played well. I mean, Joe, I think had three or four holding penalties against cause Crosby, he did not play well. I mean, he's coming off that ankle injury. But yeah, like you mentioned Herbert right now, to me, the Chargers look like an offense that's doing too much thinking and not playing. And like they're just, you know, they're kind of going through the motions. They're not comfortable right now in Mike McDaniel schemes. No, they're just not comfortable. And look at, they're breaking in a new defensive coordinator as well. So their defense has not played very good. I thought, I thought the Chargers could take two good things away from this last game against the Raiders. A, they did a really good job stopping the ground game. They held gentry to under 50 yards rushing against a Kubiak run style team that, you know, wants to pound. So I think if you're the Chargers, you can take a lot from that. They also rush for over 100 yards as a team. Hampton had a really good game, so they got that going for them. Now they got a problem because now they go to Buffalo, they go to Seattle. Those are right now the top two teams in anybody's power rankings. They should be Roman, yours. If you're not, you got to go recheck which ones. Buffalo and Seattle, those should be number one and two in your power ranking. [00:30:44] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:30:45] Speaker B: All right. I mean, go ahead and put that in one and two because that's what it should be. But look, the Chargers got a lot of problems. But look, look, if you're the Chargers and you do have a bad year and you do suck and you, I mean, what's wrong? I mean, they've got, I think, the third most money to spend in the cap next year when it comes up and if you get another top five or 10 draft pick, is it the end of the world? I don't necessarily think it is for them this season could be bad, but let's see how it plays out. But I, I'm not optimistic that they can turn things around anytime soon with that schedule coming up. [00:31:17] Speaker A: So I was Checking the power rankings from last week because I do got to update that tonight. We have some comments on socials. Expecting the Vikings to be in my top eight next week. And then Aaron got a, A rather scathing review with the most obvious hot takes, apparently. But agree with a lot what you said. [00:31:37] Speaker C: Aaron has the most obvious hot takes. [00:31:39] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what someone said. I have to look into that. [00:31:45] Speaker C: I guess. They're really not hot takes. They're just takes. I mean, just. [00:31:49] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:31:49] Speaker B: I don't know that's supposed to be. I mean, I mean, a lot of these takes I released before the CBS even started. They're just getting out now. [00:31:56] Speaker A: I, I, it was only USC clip that I put out before the game. [00:32:00] Speaker B: Hey, that was right on. I was right on in that clip. [00:32:03] Speaker A: You were. [00:32:03] Speaker B: You were. So that guy would be kissing my ass. All right. [00:32:08] Speaker A: Yeah. No. Chargers look really bad. Aaron, what I want you to do, or Jason, if you want to do it. You guys are going to headline Hot coaches. God damn. I did the same thing last year. [00:32:19] Speaker C: We're doing a hot coaches segment. Huh. [00:32:21] Speaker B: Okay. [00:32:21] Speaker C: Wow. I think this sounds like your segment. [00:32:24] Speaker A: Rome coaches on the hot seat. [00:32:25] Speaker B: Jesus. [00:32:26] Speaker A: Damn it. The same thing last year. [00:32:29] Speaker B: There's a clip last year. Are you sure this one ipa. Is it sure you're just drinking one IPA in that clubhouse or what? I know you live in San Francisco, [00:32:37] Speaker A: Rome, but it's just getting old now. [00:32:38] Speaker B: It's just getting old. The, the cat's out the back, dude. It's getting old. Can't hide anymore. [00:32:46] Speaker A: Whatever, dude. I can't say it again. All right. Seat. Hot coach. Whatever. [00:32:54] Speaker C: Coaches for the NFL hot seat. [00:32:57] Speaker A: There you go. [00:32:58] Speaker B: Is this for the NFL room or what? [00:32:59] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I want one of you guys to put it together so we can put it out on the socials because I [00:33:04] Speaker B: feel like early for that, isn't it? Rome. [00:33:07] Speaker A: You know what? I, I don't. I feel like Jim belongs on there right now. I don't know. [00:33:14] Speaker B: He's not going anywhere. [00:33:15] Speaker A: He's not. But I feel like it should be getting pretty warm now. It's year three, year four. They're underperforming. They've made so many adjustments and acquiesce. Or acquiesce. Acquiescence. I can't talk right now for Herbert. And then Herbert's getting all these excuses of why he's not doing well. They got a new hotshot OC who obviously speaks a different language than everybody else in that organization. [00:33:44] Speaker B: Now Harbor's not even remotely Close on the hot seat. It's not even warm. [00:33:47] Speaker C: I don't. [00:33:47] Speaker B: I mean, they overachieved the first two years, let's be honest. [00:33:51] Speaker C: Yeah, I agree there because they, they cut, they cut the roster down to nothing. Clear the cap space that Aaron's talking about now. Still able to over cheat. Yeah, I don't think he's your rightly on the hot seat. I would, I would only say Rome. I don't think there's a list available. I think there's only one coach right now. And you look at your own two teams right now and it's Aaron's guy Steichen with The Indianapolis Colts. Misses. Mrs. Ursay. Gordon is on the sidelines taking notes and she's not liking what she's saying. [00:34:18] Speaker B: Dyken shouldn't be on the hot seat. But it is what it is, guys. A hell of a coach, man. [00:34:25] Speaker C: You, you yourself said he's gonna be in Philly next year. [00:34:27] Speaker B: I, I still do believe that. [00:34:29] Speaker A: I think the packers coach on the hot seat too. [00:34:32] Speaker C: Have you talked to Green Bay? No. [00:34:33] Speaker B: You wanna know who's, you wanna know who's on the hot seat too? I mean, look, Sean, maybe people have [00:34:37] Speaker A: turned on their coach now it's happening. [00:34:40] Speaker B: Well, I mean, Todd Bowles in Tampa, he's on the hot seat. [00:34:45] Speaker A: He's in the hot seat too. Very. He's like what, 3 and 18 or 5 and 18 or something like that, like the past, whatever games. [00:34:52] Speaker C: I just think the thing that saves Todd Bowles is that division is not great. And so I think Carolina's gonna watch their ass. Carolina's good, man. [00:35:01] Speaker A: I think Caroline's gonna steal that division away and it's gonna bring some reality to them. [00:35:04] Speaker B: Like, I mean, every time we say that whoever gets off to a good start always tanks in the second half of the. [00:35:09] Speaker A: I don't know, man. This Carolina team looks pretty good even against the loss against the Bears. I think just like hit all cylinders, but they look good. [00:35:16] Speaker B: I mean, look, the Saints. I think Saints are the real deal in that division. [00:35:19] Speaker A: Saints look real shock, shook, Chuck, whatever, you know, I know he's like an older, you know, second year quarterback, but he looking pretty good too. Big win. [00:35:31] Speaker B: Yeah. I would say if we're looking at coaches. Hot seat. Yeah, I mean, Todd Bowles, like you mentioned, like we talked about Shane Steichen, another guy, I mean, kind of unfair, but I keep hearing a lot. Is Dan Quinn in Washington? [00:35:46] Speaker A: Well, he did put his quarterback in danger and now he might be missing another four to eight weeks. So. [00:35:52] Speaker B: Maybe, I mean that team, I mean his first year there, I mean they had no business getting to the NFC championship game. [00:35:57] Speaker A: No overachieve. [00:35:58] Speaker B: Now it's just like the expectation was so high last year that they underachieved. This year it's kind of middle row and they're already 02. [00:36:07] Speaker A: I had them on the over, so I hope they hit it. [00:36:11] Speaker C: I, I wouldn't put him in the hot seat just because of how he was able to turn things around to a pretty bad organization. But I'm not, I wouldn't be shocked by it, Aaron. I mean last year was bad. This isn't so, I mean this Jaden Daniels, I mean there's a lot of people getting hurt right now, but you're talking about a second big injury in two years right now. I mean a lot of things in the NFL like there's all the town in the world with Jaden Daniels, but the frame and everything like that, I [00:36:34] Speaker A: mean this is phenomenal. Some of them look great. [00:36:36] Speaker C: Currying injuries potentially happen with, you know, a quarterback of his stature and allowing him to take these hits like that. [00:36:44] Speaker A: I have like a three year old nephew, he's like really tiny dude. Like I'm afraid of he just might get hurt. Like that's how Daniels is. It's just he's a little guy, game banged up, really tough, really quick though. You spoke with the Chargers, Kubiak, what he's done with the Raiders now in two weeks and Kirk Cousins, I know he looked really shaky in week one, but this past week, three touchdowns, I think he had 250 yards, something like that. They look like they're going to be a tough out week in and week out. And that's saying a lot. And that's saying a lot because they don't even have Bowers back yet. Crosby's still getting the shape. You know, you have some guys on both sides of the ball that are still kind of piecing it together. I, I don't think we're gonna see what's his face Mendoza for a while, [00:37:35] Speaker C: which I think is the best case scenario for them probably, because I think if you're able to win games right now and have Cousins be out there and have Mendoza, you know, sit back and watch. I, I, we've talked in this podcast before and, and many experts has talked through. If you think about how quarterbacks used to be, used to be, hey, you sit behind and learn a little bit until you're in the game. And I, I think it goes for positions not just quarterback. I was just talking about, you know, the Bears third string tight end. But when you're talking franchise quarterback, you have everything in place for this the guy to get the correct reps out there. So we had questions coming into the season about their offensive line where they couldn't even get the running game going last year at all for their last first round pick Genty to be even, you know, get to the line of scrimmage without getting, without getting hit was an opportunity last year. Now he's got 150 yards rushing throughout the first two, you know, weeks so far. So they've gotten a run game going. They got, you know, solid wide receivers, no game breakers. You know, I think Trey Tucker is their, their leading receiver right now. But Cousins has been able to, you know, do things around. So if they're able to win games and Mendoza is able to learn behind them and get the right reps and they continue building this roster, I mean, yeah, that's a threat. I think that's why if you're talking to the Chargers, it's even more of it worrisome because now, hey, there's another program that's kind of rebuilding in the mist right now and, and that's, and that's the Raiders. And hey, it's nothing but up from them at this point as they kind of continue to move this roster. [00:38:57] Speaker A: Two more comments Wins. I was kind of surprised by Browns taking care of business of the Bucks and it was like a little rain delay there [00:39:06] Speaker B: and the Browns are still winning before that delay and look, give desean Watson a ton of credit, man. [00:39:11] Speaker A: He looks good. [00:39:12] Speaker B: I mean, look, everybody bashed on this guy and he showed up. I mean, we shouldn't be surprised, man. I mean they do have the best massage parlors in Florida. So he got, he got worked over pretty good before this game and showed up and balled out. So great, great, great job by them, you know. But look, I think, I think the big thing is Rome, this team got some bulletin board material from your old coach, Mike Tomlin. You know, Todd Monkey came out and said, hey, the Browns is the Browns. You, Mike and you Tampa. They got the win. Big Browns are gonna. [00:39:40] Speaker A: Browns. Yeah, well, Tomlin was quoting juju Smith. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And, and so, you know, hey, but they took it wrong. [00:39:48] Speaker B: They took it to heart. He's not wrong, but it's not wrong. You know, 53 men sucked it up and said, you know what, we're gonna show them what's up. And they got it done. Big win for them. I'm Happy they knocked out 30 plus percent in the circus Survivor. I love that victory. [00:40:02] Speaker A: Not gonna lie, dude, if you're doing circa, just don't pick the biggest favorite. It seems like it's already knocked 60 of the of the field out, right? At least that. [00:40:12] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean we are down there. We are down to 8, 610 participants. [00:40:18] Speaker A: Also, it's less than that because you guys what knocked 45 week one and like another 30. This one, right? [00:40:24] Speaker B: I think it's down about 65, 66 of the total field. [00:40:28] Speaker A: No. Okay. Yeah. Another big victory. I was kind of surprised. Oh man, I just lost it. [00:40:37] Speaker B: But the Saints, you got to give the Saints big. [00:40:39] Speaker A: The Saints were up there. I, I, I think still in losing fashion though. Like the jets and, and the Titans, they, they gave me a lot to think about. It's going to be hard going against them week in and week out. It's going to be depending on matchups and where they're at. But jets, we, we were ragged on their coach Aaron, you were the first one to chop them, have them on the chopping block before even last season started. [00:41:02] Speaker B: And he's still warm. It's still warm. Rome, that's he's still warm. [00:41:07] Speaker A: They look kind of competitive. [00:41:09] Speaker B: Yeah, but they should have won that game. Still warm. [00:41:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. Any final Comments on Week 2 in the NFL? By the way, for all the, that we gave Caleb Williams, by the way, you know, for like, you know, for like the hamstring strain of the century. Everyone's congratulating Watson as if he won a Super bowl after his first win in like three, four years. So, you know, no one's really giving [00:41:34] Speaker B: me right now, but DeSean Watson was his first win since was it, was it 22 family members crying and they had flowers. They had a big celebration backstage. The only guy that has a lot. [00:41:47] Speaker A: Oh man, they'd be hammering him so hard. [00:41:50] Speaker B: Yeah. The only guy that hasn't won a game longer, I guess, is what Sauce Gardner. They, I saw a stat. He hasn't won a game in like the US since like 645 days ago or something. [00:41:59] Speaker A: Really? [00:42:00] Speaker B: Yeah, because he was on the jets when they sucked and never won a game. [00:42:04] Speaker A: Right. [00:42:04] Speaker B: And then when he went to the Colts, the only game they won was that game in Frankfurt, Germany. He hasn't won a game in the United states in like 645 days. [00:42:13] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, I guess so. [00:42:15] Speaker B: But Rome, I, I, I don't know how we could skip over this team. I mean, the Denver Broncos, what a huge bounce Back win against the Jacksonville Jaguars at home. [00:42:23] Speaker A: I didn't catch too much of this game actually, to be honest with you. [00:42:25] Speaker B: The schedule they got coming up, it was a must win. I know Jason was pointing out their schedule. It is brutal. Yeah. How to get it done again? Bo, Nick, Sean Payton, Davis, Webb, they found a way again in the fourth quarter to rally this group back. That's a huge win against a really good Jacksonville team and they got a big matchup Sunday with the Rams and what some people may be calling a Super bowl preview. [00:42:49] Speaker A: We'll come back and talk a little college. Time to talk a little college football. We just wrapped up the NFL for Week 2, including some big wins on the bigger disappointing team so far in the very, very young season. Now College Football Week 3 did not disappoint. Lots of drama and excitement. Us as a pod. We had some drama ourselves for our picks in the Westgate super contest. I had three picks this week. Aaron, Jason, both had two. It's been like the curse of the three pick ones. I still like my three picks. I feel like nine times out of ten those are the one and I got screwed. You know, back door screwed. You know this is my phrasing here. [00:43:42] Speaker B: Back door no lubed on that one. Rome. [00:43:44] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:43:45] Speaker A: You know Western Michigan let Rice come back, couldn't cover that. Was it eight and a half. [00:43:51] Speaker B: Nine and a half. Nine and a half. Rome. [00:43:56] Speaker A: That that should have been a 14 point victory. North Carolina looking great for three and a half quarters until Clemson did like a little run the fourth quarter. Then the rain delay. Do opposite bets now for the rest of the rain delays for the year because that the Buccaneers I got screwed. Lost too much money. But North Carolina way different. So did Clemson. Clemson came out on fire, got a couple touchdowns, even screwed the spread. So lost that one big as well in the closing minutes as Clemson intercepted and ran into the house for a few more points. So overall as a group, a little rough as you may say. I'll let Aaron kind of recap our picks overall. But Aaron, if you caught his games of the week plays of the week for college football, he had a phenomenal week actually. 8 and 3, 2 and 1 at locks and there's even a few clips on on the socials and he was on the money with a lot of his foresight on those games. So including the USC game. [00:45:06] Speaker B: So Aaron, yeah, I mean Romy touched on the Westgate. That was a rough week. I mean we went three and four so not terrible after four and three the first two weeks. [00:45:17] Speaker A: Not Bad. [00:45:18] Speaker B: Really could have gone six and one, even seven zero. I mean, Jason had Miami that Friday night. They were up 31 7, cruising and then Wake Forest. [00:45:26] Speaker A: Well, that's why I said having all [00:45:27] Speaker B: that text, I mean, yeah, I was gonna, I was gonna be more clear. [00:45:31] Speaker C: Man, he's just texting, God damn it. In the middle of the night. I'm like, I don't know what he's talking about. [00:45:35] Speaker A: I finally looked at the final score. I thought we were good. I'm like, God dam it. [00:45:39] Speaker B: I, I was gonna, I was gonna write Miami question, question. But yeah, I was pretty pissed off about that. That was one of our plays of the week too, Miami. But yeah, they were up 31 7. They looked great. And then all of a sudden, like Wake Forest, like caught lightning in a bottle. Like they kept converting every third down, fourth down in the book. Made it really interesting that they had a chance to even get back and make that game closer than the final score, which was 33, 21. I. I think Rom, you touched on Western Michigan, tough loss. I mean, rice with a 22 yard TD pass of 8 seconds left for a backdoor cover there. North Carolina just beating up on Clemson the whole game. You get that lightning delay. Literally is like three hour delay. Come back like nobody's in the stadium. It's just a dark cloud raining out there. North Carolina chokes it away. Come on. We all know it was Bill Belichick. How to take his little cat nap. Never woke up from it. So that was a bad defeat. Louisville, one of my locks of the week, took care of smu. I needed to get that one back because SMU screwed me on Labor Day. So against Florida State. So glad to get a victory for us on that one. Jason came back byu. I mean, that game was. [00:46:51] Speaker A: I was worried about that one by [00:46:52] Speaker B: the hook, one by the half point and that one. [00:46:54] Speaker A: I like Colorado saying that game. [00:46:56] Speaker B: I did too. I did too. I didn't want to say nothing. I said I would take a loss if we get a group win. So we did. [00:47:02] Speaker A: Thank God [00:47:06] Speaker B: you got. What else did we have? Arkansas State, tough, tough loss there too. They get stopped on fourth and goal in the third quarter. Chance to tie that game up 14 14. TCU then goes for it on fourth and six of two minutes ago, instead of kicking a field goal, gets a touchdown. They cover that game late. And then Mississippi State did not look good in that first quarter and a half. I think they were down 13 to nothing. But offensively they could score points. They come back and win outright. No surprise there. But overall, three and four in the Westgate realistically should have been six and one. Not gonna lie, Rome, you did get the three pick curse. I mean, I went 03. You and Jason, I believe both gone now one and two in that. So my goal for this three weeks since I'll be up on three picks is to at least get two wins. Hey, and I, I, I got a few games I do like, so I am, I am looking into those right now. Romy touched on the college football games of the week. Games to watch. 8 and 3. Nice winning week for us there. Yeah, we hit Arizona State in London. Was worried about that game, but they got it done. Louisville as we talked about, was one of our big plays. [00:48:15] Speaker A: Money. [00:48:16] Speaker B: And then Ole Miss. I told you they would win outright at home. That was a great spot to take them. [00:48:22] Speaker A: I didn't like that one. But I was wrong. You know, I thought all the pressure would be on Ole Miss. And honestly, even if it was, they just embrace this so much better. Lane Kiffin and company looked really stiff coming out the gates. As I mentioned. I think on, on the previous pod, Lane rebuilt Ole Miss out of nowhere and, and, and now they're a powerhouse to be reckoned with. And they took care of LSU in every facet game. Trinidad Chambliss looked phenomenal. Their running game looked phenomenal. And they just made the right calls at the right time. Even like some gutsy Lane type calls that kind of caught lane Kiffin and company off guard. And they just manhandled them, man. 3,000, 224. I couldn't believe it. I was watching with some other college football guys like, like, like some other former coaches here in the high school and D1 circuit here in the Bay Area. And no one liked Lane. I feel like that was the only rooting for Lane Kiff. And I was like, geez, what a piece of am I. You know, we're all drinking beers, the barbecue, but it seems like everyone's happy that that Ole Miss won. So congrats. [00:49:27] Speaker C: There's a great photo. I think it surfaced today. Rome, I don't know if you saw was kind of the end of the game. I don't know, maybe cropped a certain way. But there was this like, I think four or five Ole Miss players just like pointing at the LSU sideline and lanes about five yards onto the field type thing. And it's just like they're just like pointing at him. Just, I mean that game was a little, that game was personal in a lot of Ways I think there, like, Lane was definitely, like, taking it in stride. I think he obviously plays up being the villain of the sec. I think it's great for college footballing overall. [00:50:03] Speaker A: Post game. [00:50:05] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. I think definitely just, you know, put. Put a lot into himself, I think, making that program kind of what it was. And we'll see if they're able to sustain kind of what he built. I think that's always the fallout where, you know, I mean, hell, we could talk about Oregon right now. He's got, you know, landings over here. Finally doesn't have the Mario crystal ball players and doesn't look like he's able to turn it up. So. But. But. But Kiffin, you know, he really built that program. It's what it is. But, I mean, this first game back, I mean, he basically rebuilt LSU here in a, you know, in an off season with all the nil and all the controversy and the big move and stuff, but still had this, like, group of players and coaches and everything that he built in Ole Miss. And so I don't know that. That. That game's the type of drama that you can't really kind of script. I mean, that's what makes, you know, college football, you know, you know, the best reality. I think it's better than a reality show. It's way better. But there was definitely, like, the story lines and everything about it, man. It was. It was a professional wrestling event having, like, the top villain in somewhere else, and everyone's just booing this guy, and the heel goes down at the end and everyone rejoices. [00:51:11] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, I think Jason put it great, the wrestling theme storyline. You know, Rome, I touched on when we did the preview on Wednesday. Yeah, the football gods were never gonna let Lane Kiffin win this game. [00:51:24] Speaker A: Yeah, you did mention that. [00:51:26] Speaker B: And Trinidad Chambliss is. He's not probably the best pro prospect, but he's the best college football quarterback. [00:51:34] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:51:34] Speaker B: And when you have that at home with, like, Jason said, just that personal, like, I don't care. It's one of those games, like, where the pack where the Bears are like, hey, we don't care if we go 2 and 15. If we beat the packers twice, we're happy. That was like, Ole Miss going, this was their national champion. This is that playoff game. Hey, we lost to Miami last year because this piece of left us. So let's just stick it to them. I don't care what it is. All off season, when you're lifting weights, you're like, hey, Lane Kiffin, you Hit another set. Boom. They hit another set. That was this type of game. But they got a big game coming up this weekend. I'm not gonna tease it yet, but they all have an interesting side when it comes to that game. [00:52:17] Speaker A: I, I, yep, I already know the points for on that one. No big win by Ole Miss. I really enjoyed that. Some other big wins though. Yuri touched on it. Mississippi State, that was huge. Louisville, that was huge. Texas Tech though, barely escaping Houston. Houston's a really good squad. And [00:52:39] Speaker B: wise guys, Rome, you get a good breakdown on that game. [00:52:42] Speaker A: You got a really great breakdown. The sofa wise guys. USC escaping on the road against Rutgers. Rutgers has looked just fractions better than dog in their first two games. But they brought it, they brought it out against usc. Defense couldn't stop to anybody and that was a tough one. [00:53:08] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean usc, look, I touched on that game. That was a game I was worried about it. Right. I mean you got the look ahead game of Oregon. They're traveling all the way to Rutgers. That's a long flight to play against a bad football team. If they weren't careful, they're going to be in for a tough game. It turned out to be a really, really tough game. Really entertaining game. Kind of flipping back and forth on that one with all the other afternoon games. But look, they got a big showdown against Oregon. It will be on our games to the watch games of the week. I do got a side I like in that one too that I'm leaning towards. So usc, nice stretch here with Oregon and Washington at home. Like I said, a chance for them to get the 60 and be a real playoff container. [00:53:48] Speaker A: And that clip is on the solar so I made sure we got that out. [00:53:50] Speaker B: I did, I did see it Rome, according to you somebody is commented or [00:53:54] Speaker A: at least reached back and they're talking. I, I got, you know, if people are talking on our clips that's a good sign. It means people are looking at so that's fine, that's good. Alabama, Florida State. I was like what the hell is going on here? [00:54:07] Speaker B: Talk about weather delays a team. Look, I'm gonna, I watched a lot of this game Rome, obviously I'm a Seminole fan and all those F bombs. [00:54:15] Speaker A: That's why Apple has this as explicit content here. [00:54:19] Speaker B: Yeah, so look, I was watching that game. Two things. The weather, you talk about lightning delay. That really killed Florida state. They're up 21 6. But the referees for that game, what a joke. Those guys were worst crew I'd ever seen. They should be banned. The amount of holding that they let Alabama get away with was ridiculous. Dude, I never seen so many guys get away with holding so much in the state of California. They would have caught a felony with all the holding those were doing. So that referee crew, I do want to say that you guys, they were some piece of shits. But on a plus note, on a plus side, Rome, I thought we were in the year 2023 because I didn't recognize this Florida State team. I haven't seen this team play this good. Yeah, they gave him 50 points, but I still have not seen the team under Microville play this good since 2020. [00:55:06] Speaker A: Getting fired. Now they must be getting fired. [00:55:08] Speaker B: They're supposed to be getting fired. And they balls and showed up. They finally showed some balls and showed up. I mean, look, Rome, I have not been proud of what this program has done for the last two plus years, but this is the proudest moment I've been in for Florida State. Yeah, they got beat 50 to 36, but that was a team that actually showed up and played a tough game. They got by the weather delay, they got by those referees. So those guys. [00:55:31] Speaker A: I don't know how I'm done with that one, Cliff. [00:55:34] Speaker B: Those referees, no, [00:55:37] Speaker A: fair enough. [00:55:38] Speaker B: I mean, you got three blatant holds and even the guy in the replay is like, yeah, I think you gotta hold there. I think you gotta hold here. But yeah, maybe not. Come on, dude. But the upset. Jason touched on it and he can maybe he was watching the game. I was watching a little bit. Kentucky. Oh, now Kentucky over Texas A M. Big. I know. Jason mentioned that they were already up two scores. You watch that game, Jason? I mean, I guess you had your eye on it. [00:56:04] Speaker C: I have my eye. You know, we had the multi screen going on. There was a lot going out there on Saturday. I was just kind of surprised as we were looking at. I mean, you've been high in Texas A and M the past couple years and I just, that was not a game that I just thought that was going to even be close. And I think what the Kentucky program is right now in a, you know, a very upswing. They're in an upswing. And Texas A and M continually have had, you know, the talent, whether it was, you know, the previous, you know, coaching administration and I. And since they brought the new guy over from Duke, I, I just. Everything has kind of been lining up for them. I mean, even last year when they beat Notre Dame and we've been talking like, hey, it's going up to basically Texas, Texas A and M of who's getting in the playoff and stuff like that. So it just kind of took me by surprise. I'll be honest. I was not expecting that. And Kentucky, you know, definitely on the upswing. So I. Texas A M, man, they just always seem to have this talent, but it just doesn't equate to them consistently able to get W's. [00:57:06] Speaker B: It reminded me of the game last year, remember when they were playing South Carolina and they were down 30 to zero at the half and we all looked at each other and we're like, damn, dude, these guys are trouble. And then they rallied and scored like 41 straight. I do feel like that game, we're like, Kentucky got beat the week before by Alabama, and that was kind of. That game was closer than the final score. I mean, they played really good the first half. And Jason touched on, look, Dan Lanning, he mentioned that Mario Crystal Ball's players aren't there. He lost Will Stein, the OC who's now the head coach here at Kentucky. He lost his D.C. who's now the head coach at Cal. We always talk about coaching, especially at any rank, but college, it's really important, especially your coordinator. I think your coordinators at the college level are really, really important. You know, we warned. I warned last week, you know, Dan Lanning, whatever he's doing, decision making, all that has come back to bite that program so far this season. But losing two elite coordinators and what Will Stein's doing at Kentucky, I mean, I might have even brought up, I think Will, Kentucky feels like an Indiana team that in the next one, two, three years under Will Stein will be a program that can consistently win 8, 9, 10 games in the SEC. I'm gonna, I'm gonna pick, go on record and say that. [00:58:15] Speaker A: Well, it's really interesting. I'll see if I can clip that. But Kentucky has that. Like, some either get blown out or like they gotten some pretty close calls. Like, they played Texas tough last year, losing 16 to 13. [00:58:28] Speaker B: That was a whole different coaching staff room. So I know. I'm worried about that staff. [00:58:31] Speaker A: I know, but, like, there's just like some player holdover. But they start the season, though. They, they, they blow out Youngstown, okay, Not a big deal. They get blown up by Alabama, embarrassingly 45, 17, and they come out in shock. Texas AM, their schedule is a pretty tough schedule for a team that's going to be trying to make moves. Got LSU coming up. They got Oklahoma, although I don't know what's up with Oklahoma right now. That might have been A bad call. [00:58:58] Speaker B: Oklahoma, who's. Who the two Oklahoma playing this weekend. I got on my notes, they got [00:59:04] Speaker A: Vanderbilt, who They got Georgia this weekend. Georgia. They got Tennessee, Florida, Missouri, Louisville. They got a lot of ranked teams on that schedule. So I'm really kind of curious how Kentucky ends up because they got some tough games coming up. You know, they can make a name for themselves going to next year. [00:59:21] Speaker B: Yeah, they can. I had one other thing, Rome, I wanted to add on college football. I'm trying to remember, I'm UCLA. I like what UCLA's do in Rome. I mean that rush attack, what they rush for, 367, 369. [00:59:37] Speaker A: They looked jacked. [00:59:39] Speaker B: They looked really, really good running the ball. So yeah, I mean, excited what they can do in their first game away from the state of California against Maryland. Interesting game coming up there. Definitely an interesting game. [00:59:53] Speaker A: Maryland, that's, that's a far. That's far. [00:59:56] Speaker B: Early kickoff, 10, 30 yard time too. A trap game. It's a trap game room. [01:00:02] Speaker A: What else are you gonna say? [01:00:05] Speaker B: If it comes back to me, I'll mention it. Rome, all right. [01:00:08] Speaker A: Taxes took care of business. Nora Dame playing nobody like usual. Who else? [01:00:15] Speaker B: Hey, Michigan State's a lot better than people think. Rome. [01:00:21] Speaker A: A lot of Joe cl. I'm so sorry. [01:00:23] Speaker C: Yeah, you know, they, they always talk about that. But then, you know, I think Notre Dame's got a harder schedule than Miami and a bunch of these other schools too. [01:00:30] Speaker A: So Miami does have a soft schedule, man. It's, it's, it's a joke. It's a joke. [01:00:36] Speaker C: Notre Dame doesn't play like, you know, Division 3A schools like the SEC does in their non conference schedules. Like Notre Dame plays all, you know, D1, D1 programs. You know, they play who they play. And Michigan State's a Big Ten team, man, Big Ten's best conference in football. Right. That's what all the Joel Clatt and the rest of the Fox guys say. So, hey, they beat a Big Ten team. [01:00:57] Speaker B: I think the SEC's from top. From the top teams there. Yeah, but the Big 10, they won three straight national champ. But look, Michigan State with Pat Fitzgerald, that team's better than people think. [01:01:09] Speaker A: All right, any final comments on college football? Any interest in you doling out your personal top 10 for college football? [01:01:18] Speaker B: My personal top 10 room. [01:01:20] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:01:22] Speaker B: Let me look at this AP race. [01:01:23] Speaker A: I know the AP is getting a lot of flack. [01:01:26] Speaker B: Is it? [01:01:26] Speaker C: What specifically about the flack? [01:01:29] Speaker A: Well, they just rate. A lot of teams haven't played anybody. [01:01:32] Speaker B: Well, I mean, I mean, you're three [01:01:34] Speaker C: games into the season where these teams mostly schedule like nobody games. I mean, I. I had a friend on week one. Let me just tell you this. I mean, he's a. He's a big college football fan. You know, like a lot of people are. Week one, he's like, ah, there's nothing better than this, like week one of college football. Like, no, week one sucks. There's nobody playing. Nobody. It's just, okay, there's football on, but these games suck. Everyone's playing Division 2 and Division 3 nobodies. And then there's like, hey, there's two teams that decide to go, you know, play somebody that's within at least one of the major five conferences is the biggest thing. I mean, that's what you're getting out of this. So, I mean, you had LSU and Ole Miss this week. You know, you had Texas, Ohio State. We prior. But other than that, you got a bunch of nobodies playing. Nobodies got big. [01:02:17] Speaker B: We got a lot of big games this week coming up big this week. We have big games. Hey. Oh. Oh, this. This is what it was, Rome. Did you see it? I mean, the worst. I mean, this got to be the. One of the worst. I mean, honestly, it's the worst bad beat ever. Did you see the finish in NC State versus Vanderbilt? [01:02:33] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I saw. That's bad. [01:02:35] Speaker B: Oh my God, dude, if I had money on NC State, I. I think I might have kicked somebody's ass. If you were standing next to me, I would have just kicked your ass out out of accident. I. I can't believe what I saw. You. How do you do that? [01:02:48] Speaker A: Yeah, I heard a lot of breakdown of what they were trying to do, but then it just fell apart. It was not a good. It was not good. Wasting the clock. But you wasted a win away. No, no, I mean, I was watch. [01:03:03] Speaker B: I was watching it because I, you know, I was looking at it because on the contest line, I'm like, man, like, why, you know, why didn't I really touch on Vanderbilt getting like whatever three and a half here against NC State? And NC State looked good. They were playing better the whole game. Vanderbilt came back second half, but God, dude, I watched the end of that and I. I just don't know. I don't know how you, how you get back to work losing the game like that. That's tough. [01:03:32] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:03:35] Speaker B: Jason's got the fantasy recap here going on. [01:03:38] Speaker A: How are you doing? Are you still alive, man? [01:03:41] Speaker C: I'm alive, Rome, but I'm. I'm Sweating it right now. I'm not going to be honest with you. We, we are two and a half points up in the rotisserie category. We have had a late season surge from one of the teams who have rocketed. I mean, I saw him, Aaron, at fourth place at a certain point, like 10 days ago, old La Flamo Blanco over here and yeah, he's putting some pressure on me. [01:04:10] Speaker A: Wow. [01:04:11] Speaker B: I mean, it was, I think it was Wednesday night. I did. You were only up one point if I remember. One point. [01:04:18] Speaker C: It got to one point and I was, I was bricks over here at the Zinky estate. And then I was able to expand the lead up to five at a certain point, but it has shrunk back down to two and a half. And we, we only got, I think, six days of baseball left. I need everyone on his team to just sit out the rest of the regular season. And so, yeah, we, we are, we are not confident it's going to come down to some bullshit at the end, probably. And so what's the runs category? [01:04:48] Speaker B: Oh, he, he wins the runs category. I'm looking at it right now. [01:04:52] Speaker C: It is, it is, it is very close. I need o', Neill, Cruz or James Wood or Juan Soto to do something. But we, we are, we are. It's down to the wire room. [01:05:03] Speaker B: I'm gonna give you a breakdown right here. Rome, while we're here. Home runs. Jason has a two home run lead. He's got 229 to LaFlama. Mike's 227. That's, that's a big swing category. On base percentage. Not gonna catch knock. Doesn't matter. Runs category. Nez. Oh, you got too much scalpers. [01:05:24] Speaker A: He's. [01:05:24] Speaker B: They're both on your tail. Has Nez been dropping or has he been. He's been hanging in there. [01:05:30] Speaker C: It's, it's been, it's been around there, I think. [01:05:32] Speaker B: Okay. RBIs. Ah, man, snegas. And too much scalpers on you. Pretty tight right there as well. Stolen bases, Bob, I mean, you never want to be close to the category of Bob, that's for sure. He can either win you this league or screw you. This in this league. I always say this if you can. It's always. It's a good Norm. It's a good, it's good luck is make a trade with Bob during the season. Every year I've made a trade for Bob in the season, I've at least won the league and I know Mike has this year. So that's, that's a good I'm giving out a little secret trade with Bob in the season. It just. It's just good karma for you if you can, you're in the money. [01:06:19] Speaker C: Could have used that advice July before [01:06:21] Speaker A: the trade deadline, you know, six days left. A good little secret Jason, they could have used six months ago. [01:06:29] Speaker B: Hey, I can't give out all this stuff for free, man. I gave out a lot of tips, dude. Listen, he's already taken 50 of my money off this damn thing. [01:06:38] Speaker A: It's like. It's like. It's like Aaron's friend comes up to me, like, hey, dude, I think my wife's cheating. Aaron's like, you know what she is, and I know who it is. [01:06:48] Speaker B: Be honest with you. [01:06:49] Speaker A: And it's me. [01:06:51] Speaker B: Annie's pitch. I, I, I, I, I. I don't go that low, Rome. I don't. I don't sleep with anybody's wife that. I know the guy. That's just. That's a rule of thumb if you know the guy. [01:07:00] Speaker A: Jesus Christ. [01:07:05] Speaker B: Okay. And he's pitched. You're safe. Strikeouts, you're safe. Can you catch, Mike? And strikeouts. Maybe saves. Oh, you're tired of Danny and saves. Okay. [01:07:18] Speaker A: Well, dude, I. I hope it ends well. [01:07:22] Speaker B: Wins. Wow. It's tight. It is really tight, dude. It is. [01:07:25] Speaker C: I said it's tight, man. I could. I. It's. It's hard breaking down as I talk to other people about. There's a lot of. A lot of conversation in my circles around this league all year as I. As. I've been trying to maintain this, and, like, yeah, it can. It can go either way here at the end. [01:07:38] Speaker B: I. I hope you beat Mike. I'm not gonna lie. He's won the title, like, three times. [01:07:44] Speaker C: I got. [01:07:44] Speaker B: I got a text. [01:07:46] Speaker C: I got a text from Danny this week, too, just wishing me good luck, too. And he's hoping he's rooting for me as well, so. [01:07:51] Speaker B: Yeah, but he doesn't want Mike to win. They always got a feud going back and forth. I think Danny's a little. He's a little butt hurt. He hasn't won the league since, like, 2012, and Mike has won it three times. I've won it three times. He doesn't want to see anybody that's won multiple titles keep winning. And I like to see new guys in new blood win. I'll have the trophy with your name on it within a few weeks after winning if you happen to win. [01:08:18] Speaker C: Well, here's hoping. We have to win. We got. We got some. We got some work to do. Last week of the regular season, Rome. You know, a lot of football talk in this pod, but I'm locked in on baseball. We got fantasy going. My white socks have blown the AL Central lead right now. We are one game back of the Central with six to play. You know, we could lock in the wild card, which is great, but I'm really hoping for the two seed. I was hoping I. I have tickets purchased Rome, to go to game one of the alds whenever or whatever the White Sox play. And so I was really hoping them locking into the two seed and that game one would be a Saturday from now. But that is not. That is not locked in stone right now. The White Sox are looking at the wild card around, so we, we got. We got six games to play. White Sox play the Royals and the Rockies, two cellar dwellers of their divisions. So I need a six zero and I need the Guardians to drop a game and the. The White Sox go in the postseason. So a lot of baseball to play for me, my friends. So we'll be locked into all the sports, and then, you know, we got Formula one, man, we're gearing back up. We got a good stretch of races coming. So there's a ton outside of the. The world of football that dominates the sports headlines here in the month of September. [01:09:26] Speaker A: I'm trying to score tickets to the Dodgers here when they come play the Giants the end of the season. I might get some tickets for the Niners and Cardinals game. I think that might be a fun one on this Sunday, you know, with my friends. [01:09:40] Speaker B: Sounds like you got a weekend at the. At the ballpark there. Rome Dodgers in town. Cardinals, you know, Rome, you know, since we're touching on baseball, Jason's got the White Sox. I want to congratulate your Dodgers on winning the NL west, my Atlanta Braves on winning the nle. So I'm happy about that. Back where we belong in the playoffs. Excited. Excited about the opportunity to maybe see the Dodgers down the road here in these playoffs again. Always have had some great series in playoffs over the last few years. [01:10:13] Speaker A: Daughters are starting to heat up a little bit. I don't want to jinx anything. So for everybody making the playoffs, Bets [01:10:18] Speaker B: is really warmed up here. Mookie Bets, he's gotten hot. He's gotten hot. [01:10:26] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:10:26] Speaker B: Well, didn't. Didn't Blake Snow get pulled from his last start? Precautionary, they said. What was that all about? [01:10:33] Speaker A: I don't look good, you know. [01:10:37] Speaker B: Yeah. Scuba's finally starting to pitch well. [01:10:38] Speaker A: Yeah, he's trying to pitch well. Cool. Long pod here, lots to recap. And we have some interesting games to pick this week, especially for the NFL. A lot of crazy matchups. This is gonna be a hell of a week against the spread, so hopefully it's better than this past week. We got Jason, Aaron and myself, Rome. We are out.
