What's up, everybody? This is source from the sofa. My name is Jerome. We have Jason here on the pod. Aaron is out busy with Labor Day schedules here. So we're going to recap college football here. Thank you for everyone who's been following on X, on Instagram, on YouTube as the followership has been climbing through the roof. We've been how having thousands of people listening to the podcast. So we want to thank you all for doing that.
But now, week one, though I did post a little late. I posted early on X. We had Aaron had his games of the week with his liens on all the games.
Tough week for Aaron. Week one is always kind of tough.
[00:00:42] Speaker B: I don't want to interrupt you here, but let's not lie to the audience right now. Aaron's not here because he's in timeout because he is the college football expert of this show. And, you know, we'll just take a sampling. I didn't even look at his what his record is for his games of the week, but just in our on for the pool we got going on for Vegas in the league we're in, you know, we each, you know, know, put some picks in. We've talked about that. Last season, we're in it again. You know, we had seven picks in a week. I went two and zero. You went two and zero. Aaron, what do you go? Oh, and three. Is he one? One and two, maybe. I. I think we're pending the SMU game right now. Right?
[00:01:15] Speaker A: Actually, I don't know what the SMU game is right now, but I'm a little nervous.
[00:01:18] Speaker B: So it's tied 17. 17.
[00:01:21] Speaker A: We're.
That's. That's a no, dude.
That's a lot.
[00:01:25] Speaker B: So I don't know, the college football effort might be expert, might be on three on the show. So I think, you know, he's not here in timeout. Not enjoying the festivities of Labor Day.
[00:01:34] Speaker A: Valid, valid point.
One thing I don't like is, like, absolute guarantees with, like, these blowouts in week one. Week one's, like the toughest week out of all weeks, in my opinion. Especially with, like, nil. You just don't know, like, these transfers and new coaches and what's happening. I do want to start with Western Michigan and Michigan because if you guys know who've been following the pod, I am a Michigan guy. I might have a few other teams. These guys like to joke on me. I am a UCLA guy.
I am a Texas guy. I think that's it. So I saw replays, right? A second was left on the official clock. Jason's already giving me looks and. And I thought like, well, maybe a second was left because it was tipped out.
I know the game clock on the, on, on the, on the broadcast was like zero. And I was just thinking like, dude, how the did Michigan lose this thing? Like, I took Western Michigan with the points. I was really happy with that win. They should have won, I think. I feel like they got gypped out. They're a really good team. They are an attack from the Mac. I thought it's gonna be a tough matchup. All the projections and computer rankings were having Michigan like blowing it out by like 20 points at least. Western Michigan has never won against Michigan, but this is also like a really good team returning back. They are a D1 school. They play really hard, a lot of star players, and Michigan did what Michigan does. They came out a little flat in the opener and I'm a little worried for this team. Like, Underwood was very underwhelming in this opener.
And then we had a magical one second pop open on the play clock. I know Jason, you and Aaron were like, very adamant that this game was over. And I wasn't very positive because I was watching on my phone. I was like, you know, hanging out with my daughter and we're watching the game. She's like, wait a minute. Like, I thought they lost already. You know, she's like, she was perplexed. But then all of a sudden they got an extra play. Underwood throws it to his receiver, catches it for a dramatic win. And it was amazing. And also, I don't know what the word is, but it didn't feel good. It did not feel like a feel good win. I know the barstool sports guy is going to like defend this win and you know, everybody play their part saying like, oh, you know, maybe we should revamp the replay a little bit better. But. But it feels like West Michigan and their conference, Met Conference may have gotten a bigger payout for. For saying a step. Am I, am I too out of, you know, breach first for saying that?
[00:04:10] Speaker B: I mean, they were getting paid regardless. I mean, when you look at these, when you look at these matchups at the beginning of the year, when you're a Power 5 team or whatever, you know, the, the top conferences say that when they go and play, you know, one of these other conferences like the Mac and stuff, there is incentives for Western Michigan to play. So they're getting paid at some point. I don't know if it's to take the L. I will Say, you know, before we get into the debate of what counted or what didn't count it, the way Western Michigan handled it was with class, the head coach. I think it was the eight. The AD and president was talking just like, you know, the learning opportunity for the young men and adversity and not everything's going to go their way. And just like, heartbreaking.
Yeah, it was. It was definitely. And at the end of the day, like Michigan. I think the. The biggest indictment of everything is Michigan fans storming the field for this win.
On what are they with 27 and
[00:05:02] Speaker A: a half points of me now. You said to me, acceptable. You're right. It is. It is. Like, come on, they were like 20 point favorites. You should never swear on the field of your 20 point favorites. And they've done it twice down the past few years.
[00:05:16] Speaker B: Yeah, and this is. And this is what? Depending what Michigan does the rest of the way. That's week one. Everyone's getting their, you know, bearings together. You're trying to figure things out. So I get. Teams aren't going to be at their optimum, but the reason you schedule one of these games if you're Michigan or some of these other teams is like, hey, we're trying to get like a tune up. We don't play preseason in college. And so this is where it's at. So it's a team that you should be able, able to, given, you know, the nil money and all the talent that you brought in for Michigan is a team you should be able to have some mistakes on, but still, you know, win the game. And obviously this was far from that. They couldn't get anything going offensively. Michigan was. And you're, you know, relying on this last minute. And so basically, if you're looking at the committee at the end of the year, and this is way too getting down on the road like, this is a loss. I don't care what anything comes with it. This is, this is college football. And so, you know, a win is a win is a loss and is a loss. Because I get to the whole playoff thing. You look at this in the other year, this is going to be a loss for their playoff resume.
[00:06:11] Speaker A: Yeah, it. It's.
Even if there was a second left, right?
Let's just say if.
Because the Big Ten promoted video and said like, it touched the hand, it did not look obvious. I. I follow. Someone on X said like point out where a previous play was actually like docked like an extra second where it went straight from nine to eight seconds. So the gameplay did not officially. Add a full second.
It's a bad look for Michigan. I think that Michigan looks really rough though. I, I know Western Michigan is really tough. They are a big time Mac Conference team and I'm really proud of how they came out. It was a really good game. It was really exciting.
Jason Aaron were talking shit on me, guys, non stop. And I was all like, wait a minute, like what, what? Like how come Michigan gets an extra play? It's. It's weird. But. But college football is back.
[00:07:07] Speaker B: College football is back. I. I will say the. For the Big Ten. Dropping video in the middle of the night while everyone's sleeping of like the correspondence of, you know, the one. The one second here on the clock and you got guys in the studio and you can barely hear them and this is how the replay. They were recording that. I mean, I appreciate the transparency. I didn't know these things were recorded for release that they had.
[00:07:28] Speaker A: I didn't know either. Everything, like it's the first time I've seen it.
First time.
[00:07:32] Speaker B: That first time. And yeah, so they're. The transparency there. And you got this convenient clock and so that clock's real, but the game clock that's synced up to everything else isn't real. Even though there's eight seconds left. So somehow those things aren't synced up. I don't know how with eight seconds left that you don't have these two. There's two different clocks and you don't sink. There's a lot of questions that I think a lot of people had that just things weren't adding up and we're trying to just make it go away. And we put this. It's very, very transparent. Didn't know this existed. But I think a lot of questions and when you, you. There's. There's a lot of money at stake in these games and there's a lot of big stakes. And this is where these mistakes. It's very tough to live with when you know something glaring has happened that, you know, however many 15, 20 million people are watching this game on TV and you're like, this doesn't make any sense.
[00:08:20] Speaker A: It was rough. I, I know I was giving you guys, I sent you guys tweets. You guys didn't respond to any of them. It's okay.
[00:08:28] Speaker B: I will say some of. Some of my favorites given. Some of my favorites given. You know, we did a lot of soccer coverage this summer. There was, There was stop. Stoppage time. They were putting one second extra on the clock. That was one of my Favorites.
[00:08:40] Speaker A: So many guys said that. Yeah, if only caution would do. Stoppage time. Yep.
No, we're not done.
[00:08:47] Speaker B: Well, we're gonna keep it going until. Until they. Until they don't move the ball forward.
[00:08:52] Speaker A: That's exactly what it was.
That's exactly what it was, dude.
And, you know, I don't feel good. I don't feel good, but I feel good about my other teams dominating this week because usually took care of business. Aaron, I knew that was the ego pick. You taking Cal with a plus one and a half. That was bullshit. My computer ranking said that was not a good pick. You took that one.
Texas took care of business.
Oh, my God. You see Arch Manning looking every part the Heisman hopeful. That was awesome. Lsu. I overthought this pick. I wanted to take lsu, the points, but Clemson. You got to give Clemson props, right? They're a good football team, good organization. I was afraid of taking that against the spread, but LSU looked phenomenal. They looked great. And then I loved Lane Kimmin's quote at halftime saying, imagine if we had pro players. What a dick move. What a dick move. A dick move. But it was hilarious. Oh, my God. Like, imagine if it's only two guys, but they play really good.
[00:09:57] Speaker B: I know. I know he's not likable, but I love. I love Lane, the way he plays up the. The. He.
[00:10:01] Speaker A: I like him.
[00:10:02] Speaker B: He is not. He is not afraid to be the bad guy in it. And he knows he has to win at lsu. Whatever it takes over there. I'm sure there's going to be all. You know, there is all sorts of shadiness going on, but he leans into every. Every part of it. The pregame was absurd with, like. Was it. He had like, Livy Dunn and Theo Vaughn and a bunch of other random people coming up. Like, it's.
[00:10:23] Speaker A: I did all the thing.
[00:10:25] Speaker B: It's. It's pro wrestling at its best, I think. I think I. I gotta appreciate that with Lane. So he did the heel turn on old Miss and left these people down there. He's with, you know, with the rival. The. You know, the biggest heel faction in the game with lsu.
[00:10:40] Speaker A: He did great, though. He could coach his ass off and. And lsu, like, every bit of the part.

We kicked off with the college football preview. NFL preview coming up later on this week. I know we're running A little late on that. We're just waiting for Aaron to get his little bridges together so we can get that thing going together. But we have a new theme this year. All right, so how should we go down with this, Jason?
Should we go down through like the college football games to watch for week one that Aaron gave us some highlights? I know you're Notre Dame, dude. I was actually the computer gave me like a C minus ranking on this pick because they weren't sure which Wisconsin was going to show up. And they show up in the first half and then Notre Dame show up in the second half. So that was a really good cover.
[00:11:59] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean you brought up we could start with Notre Dame. Yeah, you're right. They didn't look great in the first half. I think offensively Carr really couldn't get much going. A lot of checkdowns early on. Really wasn't trying to extend the field but found some good mismatches. I think later in the game with some seams like, you know, right between, you know, the corner safety and some quick stuff the running game got going in the second half. I think the defense really was the story for Notre Dame.
You know, they, they were able to, you know, they had a pick six. A lot of, you know, a lot of big stops that the team made. They obviously got, you know, NFL players in the secondary, some pretty good defensive line.
So I think the defense showed out and that's what it's going to have to be as they go through. They obviously don't have, you know, the toughest of schedule this year and we were going through that within our college football preview.
So it was a good tune up game for them. But you know, I always give. At least I was giving as a Notre Dame homer myself, giving them credit at least they scheduled a, you know, Big Ten team in, you know, playing a conference team. They didn't, you know, play, you know, some, you know, gimme game from some out of conference team in week one, you know, doing the Shamrock series against, you know, at least a, you know, a decent Big Ten team. You know, I know Wisconsin isn't where it used to be, so. But a lot to improve for Notre Dame. Too. You know they're going have to probably, you know, they gotta go. I think we talked about 11 and 1 and so the Michigan, I'm sorry the Miami and USC game and will be bigger. I'm sorry usc, my Miami and SMU game later in the season will be big for them.
But until those games come, you know them taking care of the business and really kind of figuring something out offensively. The running game was probably the biggest question going into the game because you lose love.
[00:13:38] Speaker A: Yeah, love.
[00:13:38] Speaker B: Yeah, you lose love and price. But you know, Anise Williams was good in the game and I think they, you know, they got something building so. But I was a little worried in the first half, to be honest. Probably wasn't. It was maybe a little homer pick. Wasn't ego. But my theme in the first week I picked them in a Miami. I think they're two teams that are probably, you know, pick them final four in the country going a year into the week one. I think they're the most prepared. They had the talent discrepancies. They both were playing legit conference opponents. But I think these were the, the blowout games you want to see in week one to establish something for Notre Dame it was the defense.
Miami it just I think the guys up front with them for you know, both defensive and offensive lines, you know were to show out Miami like great dude.
[00:14:15] Speaker A: What like, like the wide receiver had like a record breaking breakout game. Three touchdowns, 200. I think it was 220 yards.
[00:14:25] Speaker B: 234 yards. Yeah.
[00:14:27] Speaker A: Amazing. Yeah. No, I had some friends actually be at the Miami San Friggin. I was trying to take my daughter there because the tickets were like cheap. Like $30 compared to the Cal UCLA game. My daughter, we were watching the UCLA Cal game. Thank God I didn't go because the tickets were like 100 bucks for like we have pie. Honestly, there's like not in a bad seat like the little stadium, it's like very tight.
But we were at home eating popcorn and carne asada burritos. But it was 11:30 still and we're watching the game like dude, we'd be dying if we were out in the cold at the Cal Stadium.
Stanford, Miami, so much better. That started at 6 o'. Clock. It was done by 9 o' clock and Miami took care of business. One of my friends here, here in Oakland, she went with her father. Big Miami fan. They're from Florida.
They loved it. They're big Miami people and I don't know man, they looked really revamped and ready to go.
It was a very positive outing for them.
[00:15:24] Speaker B: No, absolutely. And I think for them, you know, they're going third year in a row where they're getting kind of this, you know, senior transfer quarterback and putting him on a team that's full of NFL prospects on, you know, both the defensive and offensive lines. And then having legit skill players, as you mentioned, with like, Malachi Tony. So you get, you know, an experienced quarterback that knows, you know, what to do in the college game, and you bring that veteran stuff and they, you know, they did it with back last year, you know, war the year prior. Now Mensa this year, you know, mental, like, really good. Five touchdowns, 401 yards.
So, you know, it's. I think it's just a good stepping stone from them. You know, Aaron and I both, you know, touting them for the ACC championship. I, you know, I will hold my breath on the Mario crystal ball game, but Mario Cristobal, from. From the beginning, he's. He is above all, one of the best recruiters in the game, and he gets the athletes in there. And so when it comes down to game management, you know, if you're blowing people out and if you are, like, dominating the line of scrimmage, which I think that's what you appreciate. And a lot of these guys that are great recruiters like this, it isn't just the flashy skill guys, which he does get in Tony, the trenches. And. And I'll keep giving that for Miami. That's something that. That acc, Big Ten schools always struggle against the sec.
Miami can go up against anyone. When you're talking in the, you know, on the front. On the front, you know, front seven on the defense or even the front five, you know, protecting and making rooms for the offensive playmakers. So Miami's going to be good, I think, run away with the acc, I think. I think I'm pretty much just for both of those teams, looking forward to the, you know, the Miami, Notre Dame showdown later in the year. Because I think that's, you know, that's one of the games to watch this season.
[00:17:07] Speaker A: Gonna be a really good game.
All right, let's go through Aaron's games to watch for week one. We have UCLA and Cal. He took Cal with a plus one and a half.
UCLA took off in the second half.
It was pretty crazy because their quarterback went down the fourth quarter. We were watching it.
I don't want to butcher the quarterback stain, though. He's from Tennessee previously, but his brother came on board.
Just handing it off. But they end up scoring two more touches and then being like a light slow out. Usually looks really, really good. I really loved it. So I'm really happy about that win. He took Boise State plus 24 and a half against Oregon. Thankfully, that covered Oregon.
I want to take this game too, because Boise typically is, like, really competitive. They lost a lot of players, new coaching staff. I was really skeptical of taking this pick against the spread, but they look pretty good the part and they're going to be a big player in the favor to win the Pac 12. Baylor plus seven and a half. I don't have the final.
[00:18:10] Speaker B: They play in the Big Ten.
Who you're talking about? Oregon or Boise State?
[00:18:16] Speaker A: Boise State.
[00:18:17] Speaker B: Okay. I just want to make sure. I heard, I heard PAC 10. I was like, are you talking about we got to talk about the PAC 10 again. Or PAC 12, whatever they call it with Boise State being it.
[00:18:26] Speaker A: Yeah. As a former Pac12 game, but no, no. Boise State looks like they might be the favorite to win the Pac 12 this year.
Baylor plus seven and a half. I didn't catch the score and I can't find it right now.
Aaron had plus seven and a half for Baylor against Auburn.
I don't know if you have that, Jason.
Next game, UNLV.
[00:18:47] Speaker B: And then Baylor only lost 1716 to Auburn.
[00:18:51] Speaker A: So they covered.
[00:18:53] Speaker B: So they covered. Yep.
[00:18:54] Speaker A: Nice. Thank. Thank God. All right. UNLV in Hawaii. Typically, I don't like to go against Aaron, but this looked like a UNLV game and they dominated this one. They took care of business. Definitely covered the three points on that. I think it was two and a half on Circus Survivor. That's why I took it. When it's like a little less than a field goal or like a little less than a touchdown, you're able to get there for like the more dominant team that's favorable for betting situations. So I won that for the circa for our, for our podcast. Aaron lost that for a pot, unfortunately. Clemson, LSU. Aaron had LSU covering by 10. I was really skeptical. Did not know what to expect from Clemson. I want to take this as my second pick. Luckily we were 2 0, me and you and Jason. But LSU looked phenomenal. They look great, dude. I don't know. Like, they, they look like championship favorites to me.
[00:19:50] Speaker B: LSU look great, but how bad Clemson looked, I, I, I terrible. Am I misremembering Aaron in the college football preview talking about Dabo Sweeney being on like the hot seat watch?
[00:20:00] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:20:02] Speaker B: And I, I think it is obvious where you looked at Clemson. They were the Class of the acc, they had the athletes, they had something continuous there. And whether it's, it's seemingly true, but Dabo just refuses to kind of engage in the nil of it all, you know, when it comes to how to build a team that he, you know, he built a tremendous program in Clemson that had never been good, you know, in for, you know, a century, and built it up through, you know, the old school way of recruiting and developing and getting the right guys out of high school. But that just isn't the college game now. And I think there, there was, he's the cautionary tale of, you know, Nick Saban saw the writing on the wall and he's like, I don't want to do this. And like, he's now averaging like, or, you know, advertising and campaigning on college game day for the Save America or Save Football act or whatever. We're trying to get Congress to step in because he didn't want to do it when he was there and he stepped out. And I think the cautionary tale was like, he saw the writing on the wall. I don't want to do this. I think he's, Dabo was, Dabo was sitting in. I'm like, hey, I don't want to, I'm not going to do it this way. I'm gonna do it my way. This is the way to do it. And it's just, it's just not gonna win right now with the empowerment of the players. I, I, I'm not, I'm not for what Nick Saban's trying to do. Because I think now that you've given all the power to the players, all of a sudden this becomes the things. There's a way to put some rules around it and so you can't hop program year to year and stuff, stuff like that. But I mean, the way, the way Dabo has kind of refused to embrace this has kind of been no one's going to want to go to Clemson at this point. And you're not going to have a consistent team year over year when somebody like Miami's going to come in and take Duke's quarterback and wide receiver, you know, because they were good.
[00:21:45] Speaker A: I was worried about the drama with like the NFL players. Although they were only in camp, they didn't play like an NFL game at all. Coming back to LSU and just like, it's so funny, this country, we value more about college football players coming back to college football then, I don't know, weirdos running for government, whatever it is, you know, like, it's just really weird.
But nonetheless though, I'm really happy that LSU stepped back a little bit, did not let those guys on the team at least, at least for this game. And they dominated really nice. I thought they handled it very well. And I think they're taking this like diva us against the world mentality. I think that's like their motto. And for some reason I espn, I, I, I can't remember who did, did a piece about golden and Kiffin and Ole Miss and how he was trying to talk Ken to staying a little bit longer because you know that that was home. There's like so many reporters and so many people that thought like that was finally his place. Like it was a balance of family and, and college football. And he said it let me go to lsu and like now it's like so much more turmoil than we haven't seen ever in Lane Kevin's career since usc really. And it's kind of crazy, but I think he's embracing, he's a lot better. And even with all the drama, whether they play or not, I don't think they're gonna play actually. I, I don't think the NFL players are, are gonna play at all.
But LSU looked really, really good. Especially Sam Laviatt looked every bit of the part. I know his stats aren't mind boggling, but he did pretty good.
[00:23:30] Speaker B: Yeah, I think with the NFL player stuff, I think, I think there will be a, a long line drawn. There is kind of like when you, when you declare your professional eligibility and you go that route, like it's kind of over from there. I'm sure that will be the kind of minimum that they'll do, but I don't think there's anything putting the nil stuff back into the bottle or for what.
I don't think that's going to become, you know, a priority.
There's too much money at stake in college football right now. And when you're talking like nil budgets of like, is it like a $50 million nil budget? Okay, great. There's, you know, the college football TV ratings and what these television contracts go for and the sponsorships that's entailed. There is, you know, this is NFL level money. It's the sec. College football is the second biggest sport in the country because they rely on, you know, basically cheap labor. But okay, you got to pay $50 million for a roster or something like that. That's like bargain basement compared to like professional sports. Like they're not getting a 50, 50 split. There's plenty of universities, administrators and everybody getting rich on what this sport is. But I think you know, whatever guardlines, whether it's like hey, you decide you're pro eligible then that's it. Once you've. Once you've kind of dipped your toe in the pros water.
[00:24:42] Speaker A: Nice.
The other games, Wisconsin, not Dame obviously covered. I was nervous. We were nervous in the first half.
It was 13:10. Nordame covered. Aaron's other game, Louisville plus six and a half to Ole Miss.
What was the final score on that? Did that cover.
[00:25:06] Speaker B: What do we have for it? Did not cover Ole Miss.
[00:25:09] Speaker A: Oh my God. Yeah. No, that was a tight game. That was pretty nerve wracking. I don't know why we had it listed on Monday. It was listed like that for Aaron's listing. But on the notepad as a Monday game. It was a Sunday game though.
[00:25:25] Speaker B: Yeah, it was Sunday. Late night. Yeah, we did put it on a Monday.
[00:25:29] Speaker A: Well, all good though. But that was another.
[00:25:33] Speaker B: I think you skip. Did you skip over his Friday pick of Fresno State plus 21 and a half?
[00:25:40] Speaker A: Oh, I did.
[00:25:42] Speaker B: I mean that was. That was his worst. That was his worst one of the week.
[00:25:45] Speaker A: That was not happening. Dude. That was not good.
[00:25:49] Speaker B: 39 nothing.
[00:25:50] Speaker A: USC dominating 39 to nothing against Fresno State.
Still tepid attendance.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: Still like 100 degrees down here. Man. I know you were down in LA for like an hour or something.
[00:26:04] Speaker A: I heard you guys, the excuses. Yeah.
[00:26:07] Speaker B: Hey, I don't go to USC games. I don't care. I'm just saying it's hot out here.

[00:26:17] Speaker A: It was blazing hot. Dude, everyone was by the pool. It was like a packed pool. You know, it was 82 degrees here in Oakland.
It was hot.
[00:26:27] Speaker B: Okay, it's hot. Well, I mean sounds pretty good. It's the only time you're gonna. I'm gonna be envious of the weather in Oakland versus Southern California. Right?
[00:26:35] Speaker A: Wow. It's really good weather. That's really awesome. All right, so Wisconsin or Dame? Louisville, Ole Miss, smu? Florida State. You're right. I did miss all of Aaron's Friday day games. I just. It was just a little too little too late. I had to drive down to pick up my daughter and drive back. I did mention I needed to record the pod at like 6:30. Otherwise I. I was out and.
And then we find out about like a last minute draft.
Sorry man, I couldn't do it.
[00:27:06] Speaker B: All good. You know We. We gave the. We gave the people the entire college football preview. I think we said what we said going into some of these.
[00:27:12] Speaker A: Aaron gave a lot of picks that game. So, like, I was pretty.

Besides that, though, overall impressions on week one college football, I think we did pretty good on our picks. He did pretty good on assessing every division. Overall, I think big surprises, how good Texas looked, LSU looked, and then maybe Oklahoma.
[00:28:57] Speaker B: I mean, I'm not giving Texas all the praise in the world for playing, like, North Texas, like Tech or whoever they played like that.
[00:29:03] Speaker A: It wasn't. Yeah. Yeah. Well, dude, those dimes out from Arch Benny Lower, like, phenomenal.
I would say Oregon scares me again.
I would say Indiana could have played a little bit better.
I'm not really sure what to think of everything else. I know it's week one, so it's gonna be, like, adjustments. North Carolina looks phenomenal in week zero as well. And now they have, like, their GM resign.
Bill Belichick's son is on.
Is on relieve or whatever you call it. You know, there's like, a lot of bad stories coming out of there, so that'd be interesting.
To follow from here on out. Michigan really shaky. Maybe Willingham should have stayed retired or not because.
Oh no, like I like WMU. I'm not sure if it should have been 12 to 13.

That was a victory that the Mac should have. That.
[00:30:08] Speaker B: I don't know, I don't want to, I mean I'm probably overreacting right now and I don't want to give away a potential pick for me right now. But I'm looking at Oklahoma, Michigan next week in Oklahoma. Right now I'm looking at minus five and a half. Man, Oklahoma's gonna crush them. Oklahoma's gonna crush them.

As much as I love Michigan, that was not a good look. Dude, they're gonna get hammered this year.
[00:30:32] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean Big Ten's good and Oklahoma is actually at least a legit out of conference game. I mean I guess you're lucky you, you scheduled Western Michigan and got this, you know, lucky win because you would have been legitimately 0 and 2 potentially after they get the beat down by Oklahoma potentially this next week.
[00:30:50] Speaker A: By the way, West Michigan was like a legit team last year. They, they, they won the Mac. They were like 10 and 2 or something like that.
Really good. A lot, a lot of returning starters coming back.
This was not a gimme pickup and so I was kind of surprised the spread was that big. But you know how this works though. Big Ten against Mac, They've been blowouts before but for some reason I was just thinking like dude, like this is going to be like at least a touchdown score game. And so I was glad I picked that.
[00:31:18] Speaker B: Well for Western Michigan. I mean you, you said it wrong. They won the, the Mac last year. They were 7 and 1 in the conference, 10 and 4 overall.
Even with the loss though, when you come into this year, I mean this is an opportunity. You know, you showed a lot versus a, a blue blood program.
They go undefeated the rest of the way or you know, you know, do something. You know they could be one of those, you know, non power conference like at large bids going into the playoffs. So I mean it's not all bad for them. You know, I get you want to win the game, but like there's, there's resume building and being that close. I mean you think of Boise State a couple years ago when they went into the playoff, you know, they lost close to, you know, Oregon, week one of the game. You know, they were, they were number one team in the nation that went undefeated Michigan's not going to do that, but at least you know that's, that's a good loss for a team for a team like Western Michigan if they can continue going ahead. So yeah, it's, there's, there's something to look forward to. It's a good storyline to look the rest of the year for them.
[00:32:18] Speaker A: Nice. Anything else that kind of stuck out for College Football Week 1?
[00:32:24] Speaker B: No, I mean I think we went through the biggest games. I mean week one there, there wasn't a lot of premiere games. I, you know, Notre Dame playing Wisconsin at Lambo was cool probably. Visually you had really the, the Louisville Ole Miss game was the only, I think was the only like ranked versus ranked game on the calendar. I mean so there really wasn't a lot scheduled for week one. This is I think the part for me that I always like.
I like college football but there's people that love, love college football and my criticism is always these three out of conference games and how and who would people schedule? Like it's just ridiculous. Like they should be playing big boy opponents. Like I just don't like the tune up game stuff. Like everyone should have to play, you know, the big conference stuff. I don't, I don't like the tune up games.
[00:33:13] Speaker A: Two games we have coming up in week two, Oklahoma and Michigan as Jason referenced to their ranked number 10 and 16 respect respectively. I'm not sure how much Michigan went up or down on the rankings because it's updates pretty regularly. And then we have Ohio State against Texas, which I like Texas to get a big revenge game in this one at home.

We have some other big games there. Iowa State against Iowa.
Texas Tech in Oregon State I feel like could be potentially interesting. And then Arizona State, I don't know if you saw that game this week. They play Texas A M on Saturday. But I know this was allowed. They were playing I camera the opponent. They were up like 70 to 10

[00:34:07] Speaker A: Yeah, I know that was allowed.

[00:34:11] Speaker B: Yeah, I think you pretty much can do it. I mean I, I think, I think the coaches got to agree to it. I think that's what the Arizona State coaches. He doesn't know that was a thing. But when you're blowing people out, I mean these are the exact games I don't like. You're playing mismatched stuff that just. This game doesn't mean anything but it's going to count as a win on your schedule. Like it's, I, I don't like that crazy.

I don't think there's any other picks coming up this week. Missouri, Kansas, maybe.

[00:34:44] Speaker B: Utah be a big favorite, but Arkansas is at Utah. I think that's just an interesting game. You get an SEC school going to play, you know, a Big 12 school out in Salt Lake City for. For Utah. I mean, that's just an interest. It's not really a rank on rank stuff.
You know what? Not a big deal. But your UCLA Bruins, you got San Diego State coming to town. San Diego State, you know, they're. They're a gamey Mountain west team that, you know, could potentially sneak up on some people.

[00:35:35] Speaker A: You want to talk a little bit about F1?
[00:35:38] Speaker B: It was a big Sunday Motorsports Rome F1 IndyCar finale, first race of the Chase for the championship in NASCAR. But, yeah, let's talk some F1, dude.
[00:35:49] Speaker A: It was pretty awesome.
I did not. My daughter's a big fan of Alpine because they have pink on their car, so. Yeah, so she saw that they won a poll.
Pierre Gasly. Surprising.
Very surprising. I don't know the call was that fast. It pissed off everybody, especially Toto Wolff. And then they get started, and then it just kind of reverses right away and he's back down a few polls. I think he finishes, what, sixth or seventh in that race? Still decent for a team like that.
More surprising was Kimmy Antonelli overtaking his teammate, George Russell. George Russell got completely screwed and that by not getting called in for new retires at the virtual yellow flag, or checkered flag, whatever it's called. And I don't know, man, it was very skeptical right from the beginning. I was watching it live and I. I couldn't understand why it was him and somebody else. And then Antonelli, man, he was speeding up, like, just.
Just taking down chunks of that lead as it went on. And then he ends up winning. I think that was as chicken used to say, the chickens in the ice cooler cooling off. I don't know. Whatever it is.
[00:37:11] Speaker B: Jello jiggling.
[00:37:12] Speaker A: Yeah, you know, I. I think that was it because I'm a big Lando Guy, I think Lando had a very good position to come back and be a fight in this championship. But after that wind, though. No way.
[00:37:27] Speaker B: Yeah, this was. This was pretty much the definitive, like, stamp that you're gonna. That he's gonna win the championship. And that's for Kimi taking the engine penalty. So starts in the back of the field. Started 19th. Some other people took some penalties as well. So took the full thing.
You get. You get a full course caution, turning into a red flag because of a Charles LeClaire crash. And the. Which was a crazy. I don't know if you saw the Charles's crash. Like, that was.
That was just flying off there at a pretty insane pace and speed. But Kimmy goes just into that red flag, going from 19th to 12th. You know, just in. Was it two and a half laps or something like that when that happened?
[00:38:11] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:38:12] Speaker B: So red flag, the whole thing. They're able to change. Everyone changes tires very early in the race. So now you're. You're, you know, people that put on mediums now got to go to the hard strategy because you want to, you know, basically avoid doing a pit stop at all.
But it turned into, you know, kind of two different strategies for a couple of the teams. And Kimi was able to really slice through the field very quickly.
And, you know, by. I don't even know, was it the sixth or seventh lap. I mean, he was already basically in, like, third place, you know, getting, you know, getting close to George. I mean, George probably singing at that point, like, dude, like, what. What is. How did he slice through so quickly? Because this looked. This looked like the weekend for George. I think getting the poll was. Seemed like it was inevitable. And then Gastly takes it from him, like, out of nowhere.
And then, okay, you know, the Alpine's good for a one shot. It's good in qualifying, but it's not going to be very racy. You saw that right away. George had a good start, was able to pass displace of gastly Gasly started dropping back. But George said the league cool locked, ready to go. But Kimi just came up so quickly. And then you mentioned it, there was a virtual safety car.
[00:39:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:39:19] Speaker B: That they put out Kimi Pitts, I think Max Pitts.
And then George is kind of just left out there. And basically to take these tires the length of the race, these. All the hard set he had on, and just Kimmy just was much more racy for it. And it was kind of just the inevitable that he was able to pass. And even there was the, you know, you heard of the radio, like, you know, Kimi's gonna catch it possibly by the last lap. You know, what is going to be Mercedes call on this, like, you know, gamble.
[00:39:49] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:39:50] Speaker B: But then, I mean to. The thing is, like, I, I, you know, I don't think George is even given the option. You know, he was in first. He's supposed to have the priority on the pit strategy. They're basically running two different strategies because of where his Kimi starts. But it just seemed like, man, it was the inevitable. George looks overall defeated. And at this point, I think because of Max resigning with Red Bull.
I don't know if. I don't know if George wanted to stay with Mercedes. I mean, this could be conspiracy theory. Oh, man. Scary people coming into the camera right now.
Day of the Dead's coming early up in Oakland.
But I don't. I don't. I don't know if George wanted to stay with Mercedes. I don't know if part of him was like, yeah, let Max come here. And, you know, maybe he's just thinking Machiavelli. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go to Red Bull and show them what's up. I'm gonna be the number one driver there if Max is going to come here. But now it's at a point where this was George's year. You know, last year, kind of you could have said it was. But, you know, Aaron and I both were talking at length that we're putting a lot of money on George winning the driver's championship this year. He was the odds on favorite. It seemed like Kimi's like, yeah, he's doing well, but he's still, you know, a little bit away. George has got the car, and it's just been. Not like Kimi has the best pace. And it's really not close. Like, George hasn't looked close to many of these races.
And now potentially not even get the preferential strategy. I mean, Mercedes could say, like, they were running two different strategies where it was at. But, man, you left. You left George out to dry. He wasn't really saying anything. He just looked like, hey, yeah, yeah, okay. You know, great. You know, than what the team can do. It just none of it seemed like it was. It was a good situation. And now George really stuck because where's he gonna go?
Mercedes gives him the best chance to win. You know, you could be. You could be all pissed off about how you're being treated with Kimi, but, like, there's not a seat open in McLaren. There's definitely not a seat at Red Bull that's gonna be open for him. There's not a seat of Ferrari open for him. So you're not gonna be, you're not gonna leave and go to Alpine or Aston Martin or something, sit in the midfield and this. You want one of the top four
[00:41:54] Speaker A: teams than what, like Lando and then Oscar? Yeah. Dealt with like last year. Like this seems like a, a complete, like literal, like, like, like, like you.
[00:42:07] Speaker B: Yeah, it does. And it. I've talked in the pod a ton about the difference, you know, going back to the 2016 season with Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton where they kind of had that Oscar and Lando situation where at that time Lewis had, Lewis had won, you know, several championships.
Rosberg was just, you know, one of these guys that, you know, he basically had the potential and he put all in on that season, was able to win, but they had, they had heat between them the whole season. And I think there's always stuff to. What did Toto and Mercedes learn about this? Because he really hasn't, he never challenged Lewis with a guy that was gonna be super competitive like Valtteri Botas was, was a great number two.
George came in and it was really the end of kind of the Mercedes dominance and he, it was okay with him kind of rivaling a Lewis, but it wasn't, you know, fighting for the champ championship. Now you're to the point where, hey, Mercedes has the car, they're going to win the Constructors Championship. They should be one, two every race. But now you're going to choose and the protect the championship. You're choosing, you know, Kimi to be number one. So it's just, I think George is stuck now, man. You're just like, do you want to leave and just say something but you're going to be a midfield team or you want to stay and know you're gonna get the second best treatment and you got to figure out a way to grind this thing out and make it competitive on your own and like have one. I mean, Rosberg basically, he took, he put his entire life into that one season, won the championship and retired and
[00:43:35] Speaker A: just walked and walked away.
He has to leave now.
[00:43:39] Speaker B: I just don't know where he goes. Like I said, he's locked in.
[00:43:41] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:43:42] Speaker B: No, no, I just, you know, you know you're going to have a winning car and you can win races and do stuff, but you may never win the championship. And I think you're, you stay with Mercedes if you're George you're hoping that, you know, you get, you gotta outdo Kimmy in a lot of these different spots. But I think the natural gifts are there. We talked about him for a long time. I thought it was going to be a couple years until he took this over.
But man, he's just proving like there's F1 loves prodigies. Man. If you aren't like prodigies are where it's at, like Lewis, Max, like all these guys are like just prodigies and you know, and if you're not a prodigy and you're older, you're not going to be considered. And this guy, he, he's, he's the next, Kimmy's the next one, you know, he, he takes over this mantle where you can go, he'll have challengers, but if Mercedes has the most dominant car and you're gonna have, you know, this guy behind the wheel, he's just gonna rattle off championships here and all these other guys are going to be fighting to try to win a solo one.
[00:44:45] Speaker A: I mean like even like him going off the gravel, right. People like him on these lose control a few places he just regained it and it doesn't matter if he makes mistakes or not, he's just like going with it. He has like a flow to it of like driving all these races and like it's just dominating this year. It's new car, these new regulations, these new limitations, etc, this just looks like it's it, it's his year.
[00:45:12] Speaker B: Yeah, there's, there's just no one close. I mean you're at this point you're looking for Mercedes reliability issues, but the guy just took it whole, took a, you know, a back of the grid penalty to basically change out the whole engine.
[00:45:24] Speaker A: Right.
[00:45:24] Speaker B: George is probably gonna have to do that in potentially Baku they're talking about so in a couple, a couple weeks. So George's gonna have to start at the back of the field.
You know, it's not looking good. Ferrari was a disaster. And so as, as the next closest constructor, you know, Lewis doesn't have a shot. He basically said as much. Lando, you know, has been good but like you said like he was gonna have to win basically every race to kind of erase him in his deficit. And I, and I don't think he's got, I don't think he's got the car. I think week to week it's just gonna, it's gonna be different.
Next week's track is kind of.

[00:46:03] Speaker B: Oh man, it's like 68 points between George and Kimi.

Like they, yeah, he wins, podiums out. It's going to be pretty clear George would have to go on a run. Even if Lewis went on a run, it's a lot at, you know, 78 points or 76 points or whatever has to be for. For Lewis. And they don't have the dominant car. They got, they got two. What, two wins on the year. Lewis has won, Charles has won. And then other than that, they're finished. They're trying to finish third on the podium between the two of them. And I, you know, I just. Their strategy was all sorts of questionable, you know, throughout the race, too.
[00:47:01] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, it's pretty crazy. We have what, 11 races in the next 14 weeks.
[00:47:07] Speaker B: Yeah, it's gonna be busy.
You got the Spain Grand Prix gonna be in Madrid. This is a brand new circuit.
So this is the new race to the calendar this year.
So it's going to be, you know, interesting. What this. Yeah, so interesting track.
You know, you got some banking, high speed kind of turns, a little bit, A little bit like the Netherlands and Zandvoort where they got that kind of that final turn in Zanvoort. You got that in the middle of the track in Spain. But then you got a lot of, just a lot of tight chicanes and different things like that throughout there. So it'll be interesting on where it goes because of the amount of braking. I think there's going to be a lot of re. Probably a lot of re. Energizing to be able to, you know, save a lot of battery or generate a lot of battery to get on some of these straits.
You know, I, I think that's where like potentially some of the. The McLaren could be a little better this week, maybe the Ferrari a little better too. But I mean, you're just still looking for some Mercedes dominance at this, but some unknowns with the new track.

[00:48:13] Speaker B: I think you're going to get a Kimi George Lando podium.

I did say Atlanta was going to win at least three more races and he got one right, right away. But that Kimmy coming from 19th place, like, if anything like that, that, that was the time to gain momentum and nothing. So it's.

It's. I think it's the biggest deficit makeup in F1 history. I'm pretty sure. I think Max.
I think Max was, like, 16th, like, in Brazil a couple years ago or something like that for. For the win, and that was one of the ones that just sealed his championship in 2024.
But, yeah, like, just a crazy win.
