[00:00:02] Speaker A: Welcome back to Sources from the Sofa. Everybody, this is Rome. We got Jason Aaron, full starting lineup, or the B squad, as Aaron likes to call it on tonight's pod. A lot to cover, especially the world squad.
[00:00:18] Speaker B: Late Pacific time, Eastern time, 1am It's B squad all the way.
[00:00:22] Speaker A: It's a very late pod Wednesday nights. But we had to record.
We had the semifinals earlier today with or the last one, I guess Argentina over England. And what was such a dramatic win, man, like Argentina so clutch. Anything with 20 minutes left, 15 minutes left in the game, plus stoppage time. They just been absolutely dynamite in the last three games. They should have been knocked out three games ago. And yet here they are knocking out a really, really good England team. Harry, Kane, Bellinger, blah, blah, blah. The whole squad.
[00:01:05] Speaker B: What. What are the FIFA conspiracy people got to say about this game? Rome.
[00:01:09] Speaker A: Oh, dude, they are quiet.
They are not quiet on. On X, dude, they. And same thing with. With ig they have been doing.
[00:01:18] Speaker B: I mean, I know they're probably out when that Switzerland game with the red card, we'll probably get into that.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: But dude, like fixing it for Argentina. That's what they're saying FIFA stands for. There's quite a few. Few plays in the. In the. In the final 15, 20 minutes. One of them where Messi was kind of driving into the box. Right.
Allegedly.
[00:01:38] Speaker B: He.
[00:01:39] Speaker A: He was a little handsy with a defensive guy. Knocked him over. That's pretty.
[00:01:43] Speaker B: They're pretty handy messy in this game. Yeah. You know, there's a lot of fouls, I think.
[00:01:47] Speaker A: So they should have called a yellow card, if anything, if not disallowed the whole goal because that's. They did Argentina back when they, you know, I don't know, like not the Switzerland game, but the game prior to that one.
[00:01:59] Speaker B: Egypt.
[00:01:59] Speaker A: Egypt. Yeah. You know, Egypt probably should have won, actually. They were really good, dude, that. I still think that goal should be counted. We did talk about that game. We did talk about the game on the podcast. But Argentina wins 2 1.
They.
It was pretty hard fought, really physical in the first half.
They came out.
Both teams came out really aggressive, especially Argentina on the offensive side, really pushing up the tempo up the field and, you know, stacking up the box, basically.
I felt like they probably could have scored three or four more goals. On top of that, they had a few balls hit the crossbar. The goalie, man, I don't know if you guys ever seen that meme where like they're like doing penalty shots and the goalie's just sitting there on a seat and they keep on hitting the goalie. He's like, has like a black eye. He kids like getting beat up. I feel like that's the way England's goalie was because he just kept on getting hit and hit and hit non stop. He did a phenomenal job today, by the way. A phenomenal job. Those goals were just great goals.
And England, you know, just like the San Antonio spurs, just like, you know, we could probably name a few other teams that just kind of let off the, let off the gas a little bit and, and you know, I, I text you guys, rev, they scored. And Aaron, you're like, you know, it was bound to happen. And the way they were pressing again and stoppage time, I was just like, dude, like, are they gonna score again? Are they gonna score again? They did it.
I can't remember. It was a deflection off the goalie or the goal post. Goes to the right side of the field. Messi gets it, curls it up in the center. A nice cross header, Nobody in front of him. Two taller guys in front and behind. It's just perfectly beautifully placed like, like, I don't know, Josh Allen, like Eli Manning in that super bowl against Tyree, you know, like stuck on the helmet. It was just so beautiful, like, perfect precision. And it was just magical, man. They went 2:1, and I happened to be catching it all down the road, stopped by this public market.
It was a mixed crowd, dude. A lot of people hating on Argentina. A few Argentina fans, they weren't, you know, they were trying to celebrate, but it seems like there's a lot of haters around. But that was exciting. And then we had Spain, France. I had Spain all the way. That's my team.
And, man, France just looked pedestrian. They look pedestrian. That, that, that, that, that defense, man, stout as hell.
I think Dave Portnoy was on X saying it's like one of the worst games he's seen in his life. Like, dude, did you see Belgium and usa? That was probably the worst.
[00:04:40] Speaker B: Talking a bunch of on the usa. Now he's already, like I said, people forget.
[00:04:43] Speaker A: He's just talking crap how he doesn't like soccer, but yeah, he's watching every single second of this.
[00:04:47] Speaker B: People got money on these games.
[00:04:48] Speaker A: Rome.
[00:04:49] Speaker B: That's why he lost money on the France. He won't say it, but he did.
[00:04:52] Speaker A: He's like, he's like, how is this a good game? And so I responded like, dude, this is a great game. It's like watching, you know, Floyd Mayweather, you know, it's all defense. Very tactical.
If you mess up, that's when he counters. And that's the way Spain played, man. They just played really good.
Yamal, they're a 19 year old prodigy who's, I guess, who's had an impeccable record against MA B. I. I can't say.
Mbappe. There you go. Thank you, man.
You know, he's beat up in the Euros a couple times. He's beat him in the La Liga and, and then. And several championships.
[00:05:28] Speaker B: Hasn't Spain not lost a competitive match in like their last 36 games?
[00:05:32] Speaker A: It's, it's like the longest streak ever
[00:05:35] Speaker B: record of Italy, right?
[00:05:36] Speaker A: Yeah, it's nuts, dude. They've been on like a good tier. They were on a similar tier in 08, 08 to 10. That's when they won the Euros in 08, won the World cup in 10. They won another Euro in, in 12. That was a phenomenal run.
[00:05:48] Speaker B: And then they fell apart.
[00:05:50] Speaker A: Yeah, they got old fast. Well, they got rich and fat. Fat and got old fast. So that's what happens when you have like success. And then here they are on like another tear. A good mix of older and younger talent. Yamal has yet to score in this World cup, but he was so close so many times. Got a little too eager. I still don't like how it's offsides. If you have like a pubic hair, pass it to the defender, but that's another topic. But semifinals was phenomenal. This World cup has been phenomenal. We can go back to the quarterfinals and recap this. But guys, let's just talk about today's game and also France and Spain. Were you surprised? I wasn't, but Jesus Christ, it was all good.
[00:06:32] Speaker C: I was surprised with France. France was the tournament favorite going in, you know, every game we saw them throughout this, so far they've had, I don't want to say this, you know, most of the superior athletes in the field, I think, you know, we talked, Maybe they have three of the 10 best players in soccer right now.
Mbappe being, you know, many consider the best player in the world.
And you know, their midfield speed, striking ability throughout this tournament, they just felt they were going to be able to roll through.
And Spade, you know, they played some, you know, some closer games, I think early. I mean, they're obviously, they were a really good team too. So I don't know if you're surprised. I think the more shocking thing is, like, you didn't see any getting anything coming out of France that it was mo, you know, mostly, you know, Spain Dominating to a degree. Them getting in the two nothing. And you just didn't. Didn't see it from a team that was favored to win.
Really show what they had really dominated some of the other teams in the tournament and. But, you know, Spain again was whether Aaron were the second favorite to win it potentially. I think so. I mean, it wasn't like a huge shot.
[00:07:35] Speaker B: I think Spain was originally the favorite than France, but as the tournament went on, like you mentioned, France had kind of separated from the pack and became the lead dog.
[00:07:46] Speaker A: Really slow. And France looked good in group stage.
France, tough game against Paraguay. They dominated Morocco. Morocco was firing all cylinders in this World cup too. So that was pretty impressive. And then bam, nothing against Spain. It was pretty amazing.
[00:08:01] Speaker B: I'd be curious. I mean, I know Jason's a stack on. When's the last time France was held scoreless in a competitive match? I mean, this team's been for the last decade. Really, really good.
It's been a while.
[00:08:15] Speaker A: It's a great question.
[00:08:17] Speaker B: I mean, I know they had lost the last two matchups against Spain. I mean, some teams just have your number. I mean, they were talking about. I mean, they talked about the game that was 5, 4, but a lot of backups played in that game because the kind of club season and everything had ended for these teams of whatever that matchup was. Yeah, but I agree with Jason. I mean, look at France. I'm not kind of surprised they lost, but in the fashion. I mean, they, like you mentioned Rome pedestrian. That might be being nice. I mean, they did not look like they had any energy.
I mean, the. The best they looked was like in the final five minutes when they tried to pull out in Argentina. Mbappe had a couple shots in belly, but you know, why did they kind of high. They kind of started to kind of press after the game. You know, they were talking kind of smack on the coach who's leaving after his tenure now saying, hey, you know, the strategy wasn't good. We weren't prepared.
I don't know about all that. I mean, you basically played two World cup finals. Going in, you're back in the final four.
You've been the most dominant team. As Jason touched on, I'm surprised the game wasn't closer. I did have Spain plus one in this game paid the juice won that pick.
So I mean, Spain, as I've watched Spain throughout this tournament, fundamentally Rome like you touched on this team is just sound. I mean, the passing they do.
They're never really stressed or under pressure. They just seem like A team that's in sync. Nothing flashy about them. I mean, they're happy. Who's kind of, who's kind of their star supposed to be. He's only got one goal early in this World cup, but nothing in the knockout stage.
What Spain's been able to do, we'll see if they can do it against Argentina, but just relax, calm. They've only conceded one goal this whole tournament.
I know. Well, I was thinking about this. I think we'll look back on this World cup, but I think it's really amazing when you look back at what Cape Verde, Cabo Verde did, to be able to draw even, even with Spain and then take Argentina to the brink.
I don't think we're giving enough credit to how good or whatever Cabo Verde had going on. I want some of that. Because what they, that run they had in this tournament, we'll look back on and say that was special. Even though they got knocked out and what the round of 32.
[00:10:28] Speaker A: I, I think someone posts on X saying like, so basically the World cup are two teams that couldn't beat Capo Verde in a 90 minute match and
[00:10:36] Speaker B: they didn't win a game in a 90 minute match.
It's one of the weirdest things ever.
[00:10:41] Speaker A: That's nuts, dude.
That was a good team. That was a good team. Nice little Cinderella one.
The Spain game, they had that penalty in the first half, then they got a nice goal in the second half really early on.
Once they got that second goal, I'm like, all right, cool little breathing room. France was starting to act a little erratic. Almost like the way Mexico played against England. They kind of went against like the whole game plan, which, that's what's back. That's what Mexico is known for, is like going away from the game plan, just playing at ad hoc. They're bullfighters, whatever it is. But that's what happened to France yesterday. And, and you can kind of see it in their eyes, like, oh man, this, this thing's slipping away. Like Spain just had a grip on that D pause.
But they did a phenomenal job.
[00:11:31] Speaker C: Go ahead, Aaron. I have your answer. The last time that I can find, according to ESPN.com that France had not scored a goal in a game was March 2025.
March 20, 2025 in the UEFA Nations League versus Croatia. They lost two nothing in the first leg of a match with Croatia, then beat Croatia 2 nothing on the following Sunday and then wanted in in the aggregate. So.
[00:12:02] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:12:02] Speaker C: But literally over a year since they had been held Scoreless.
[00:12:07] Speaker A: Yeah, they're really talented.
France loaded with.
With the. I would say more talent than, than Spain, but Spain just operated like no one else. Kind of like a San Antonio spurs, you know, that's reminded me of if we're doing like basketball comps back with Timmy and Parker and Ginobly, like that team. Like, I hated to watch them play, but I was low key, a Ginobly guy. But yeah.
[00:12:33] Speaker B: Is it, Is it Ginobly Argentina?
[00:12:37] Speaker A: Yes, he is.
[00:12:40] Speaker B: Yes.
Yeah.
[00:12:42] Speaker A: So England came out firing, man, got that early goal, and once again Argentina was on the ropes. This is like their third game in a row, right?
I don't remember the Switzerland game, actually.
I'm not. I'm not really remembering too. Too much.
[00:13:01] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, that game was one one. Going to.
It went extra time, right? Yeah,
[00:13:10] Speaker A: yeah, yeah, you're right. It was 1:1. Argentina scored first and then Switzerland got the equalizer in the second half, but.
[00:13:17] Speaker B: And they got the, they got the red card. I guess we could talk about that.
[00:13:21] Speaker A: The red card and then two goals in an extra time, which was pretty spectacular. And even the last goal was in stoppage time of extra time, which is like.
[00:13:33] Speaker B: Like what the.
[00:13:34] Speaker A: Like what.
That was a nail in the coffin. That was pretty fun game to watch. You guys have any. Any other comments on like on the semifinal games first before we reverse back to the quarterfinals?
[00:13:49] Speaker C: Well, I would say Argentina, if you look at their whole knockout stage, Ron, the number of goals they've scored before the 79th minute, two.
The number of goals they scored after the 79th minute, nine.
[00:14:03] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. That. That's unheard of.
That's unheard of, man.
[00:14:10] Speaker B: Argentina is like that team in the fourth quarter that's down and always just comes back and wins.
[00:14:18] Speaker C: We just saw that with the knicks.
[00:14:20] Speaker B: Yeah. Trailing 75% of those finals, dude, I was team up.
[00:14:23] Speaker A: The Knicks the whole time.
The Knicks the whole time.
[00:14:27] Speaker B: You know, just Brunson Messi comp right there.
[00:14:30] Speaker A: There you go, blown out, you know, outmanned and then. But. But you don't give up. It was a funny anime too. On X.
Someone had like Messi turning to like this, like, like this Dark Knight and all of a sudden, like he plays unbelievable like the final 10 minutes. Saving that energy, right? He's an older guy. He. He's our age.
I can't imagine being on the pitch for that long, dude. Like, wait.
[00:14:54] Speaker B: Well, Argentina does a good job of not making him run around a lot because they were talking about it during the broadcast. Like the amount he runs Is less than, like, anybody in this World Cup. He just basically, like you said, Rome waits till when he needs to use his energy.
I mean, if you look at that play, when hits off the post, he rushes and beats two England guys to it, then dribbles and gets the cross with the right foot, which is just a brilliant play.
[00:15:20] Speaker A: That's nice. You can tell he's like, kind of like losing a step because he can't really break away from defenders as well or as often as he used to. He still has the magic every once in a while, but it's. It's not as consistent, I guess, but it was a phenomenal game. Argentina, clutch. Dude. Final minutes. I couldn't believe it. I. I still can't believe it.
[00:15:37] Speaker B: There hasn't been a boring minute in a knockout stage game of Argentina playing. No, I mean, you're basically on the edge of your seat the whole game. But especially like Jason mentioned in the final 10 minutes plus stoppage time.
Clutch. Clutch.
[00:15:53] Speaker A: The only two boring games, really, is usa, Belgium and Canada. Morocco. A lot of people didn't like.
What was it?
Spain and Portugal. That was pretty, like a good game.
[00:16:10] Speaker B: That was a good game.
[00:16:11] Speaker A: I thought it was tight. Yeah, I thought it was tight.
And then Spain, I think, won it, like, in the stoppage time as well. A lot of stoppage goals in this World cup usually see extra time going to penalties. I'm actually glad we haven't gone into penalties as much as I don't think we have in, like, past World Cups or past tournaments. It doesn't feel like it.
[00:16:32] Speaker B: Well, I mean, the last World cup final, Argentina did win in penalty kicks against France.
[00:16:37] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:16:38] Speaker B: I think we've only had two or three games in this tournament.
I mean, I know we had Morocco against the Netherlands, Egypt against. Was it Australia?
And there might have been one other one that I can't think off the top of my head.
[00:16:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:16:54] Speaker B: Switzerland against Colombia. So those three come up to the top of my mind, but I don't know if there was another one or two.
[00:16:59] Speaker A: Germany, Paraguay.
[00:17:01] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, that's right. That was the first one. So that's four.
[00:17:04] Speaker A: Switzerland, Colombia.
[00:17:06] Speaker B: Yeah, mention that one. That's. I know we had Netherlands versus Morocco and Egypt first. Was it Australia, I believe. Yeah.
[00:17:14] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:17:17] Speaker A: So we have the final. Man, before we talk about the semifinals with, you know, how we got here.
All Latin World cup, we have the old world Spain against the new old world in Argentina. That's a joke, if you guys get it, since Argentina is just made of Europeans.
Germans, really. But it's the first time that the European champions facing off against the Latin American champion. That's the first in the World cup and also the first time that we have number one and number two FIFA rank before they came in a tournament facing off in the World cup, but I think since like the 60s, I.
If I remember correctly, so lots of first.
[00:18:01] Speaker C: France was in one or two.
[00:18:04] Speaker B: Three. Three. England four, I believe.
[00:18:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
Yeah.
I think France was the favorite coming into the tournament, though, because Spain was looking pretty soft coming in. Not really hitting on cylinders, but here they are.
[00:18:20] Speaker B: Spain had a lot of injuries too, because you all hadn't played in like six weeks. And then the other guy, was it Nico Williams, kind of in and out? He's played briefly, but yeah, I think that's why Spain, obviously, like you guys mentioned, they won the Euros, so that's probably why they were the number two team in Argentina, obviously, being the World cup defending champs, you're kind of, I guess, automatically number one. It's kind of what it seems like.
[00:18:47] Speaker A: All right, going back to the quarterfinals, man, this is fun.
France, Morocco.
That was a pretty fun match from what I remember. France did not score until the second half. Mbappe and Dembele, I think that's how you pronounce his name. Morocco, really solid, but they just didn't look like they had what it took or what they needed to take out France. And I actually picked Morocco to win that one in an offset, but France just outclassed them top to bottom. Spain. Belgium.
I'm glad Spain got some revenge on Belgium. Belgium scored really fast again on a very similar play. That Catalary. I don't know how.
[00:19:32] Speaker B: Same dude. The same dude that scored two goals against the U.S. yes.
[00:19:36] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:19:36] Speaker B: I don't like the haircut. I don't like the haircut, man. I think that's what I don't like about the guy.
[00:19:39] Speaker A: Yeah, it really pissed me off. Same play.
They equalize it. One, one and then again, final minutes before we're going to stoppage time. Spain gets a winner at the end. Like that guy.
[00:19:52] Speaker B: That same guy had basically two straight games against Portugal and Belgium at the start of time. Yeah, the money man dude. The money man money denying him in the final.
[00:20:03] Speaker A: Then Saturday we had Norway, England, which was really good. Actually. Norway look like they kind of should have won if they played a little more aggressively in the final minutes. They look like they kind of gave up. I don't remember who the other guy is opposite to Holland, but he was kind of ball hogging in the final, like 10 minutes or so and you could see Holland just like put up his hands and just kind of give up.
He was not.
[00:20:28] Speaker C: It was a two on one break, basically. Yeah, it was the LeBron JR Smith meme. Basically everyone was trying to put out of there. Basically. Like, like, dude, there was two.
[00:20:38] Speaker A: One was more obvious and the other one was like a two on two. But he had like a lot of space and. Oh, my God, dude, it was blown.
It was totally blown. It was bad.
I thought Norway probably should have, you know, won that game, but England with Bellingham, he had three go. No. 2 goals that game. So two one. Really good, solid game there.
Argentina, Switzerland in the second half that day, they went three one.
We already kind of talked a little bit about. About that where they went into extra time. And that was kind of nerve wracking, man. Argentina looked pretty gas at the end of that game. And then they came through in extra.
[00:21:21] Speaker B: Switzerland. Switzerland down to 10 players. That final 60 minutes with the extra time included. Yeah.
[00:21:26] Speaker A: Do you remember when that happened? I. I don't exactly remember about the 60th minute mark. If it was a pretty bad tackle, it was a pretty bad attack on. I'm just drawing a blank somewhere around
[00:21:35] Speaker B: the 60, 65th minute, I believe.
[00:21:38] Speaker A: 72.
[00:21:39] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:21:40] Speaker A: Brielle and bolo. Oh, this was. I. I remember now.
[00:21:44] Speaker B: Embellishment. The embellishment.
[00:21:46] Speaker A: They call it simulation.
[00:21:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:49] Speaker A: FIFA, which I. I love the name. Like, oh, you know, you. You simulated the fall and like you thought it was gonna be a hard tackle, you know, yellow car.
[00:21:56] Speaker B: Like a hard tackle. If you watch it in full speed. I don't remember the guy who got shot out of the cannon.
[00:22:01] Speaker A: I don't remember who they gave the yellow card to. And they're like, okay, Var, let's review this thing. And everyone's like, dude, he's not even. He's a touch up. I wish they can bring this to the NBA, please.
[00:22:13] Speaker B: For years I would throw guys automatically out of the game for this.
[00:22:15] Speaker A: If you can write flops like that, like, if no one touches you and we. And we've all seen in the NBA no one touches you, you're out, dude. Five on four. Five on four for two minutes. Do like a penalty box. Like hockey. It's like merge these sports together. Five on four for. For two minutes. Go fuck yourself. Then you come back in the game.
[00:22:34] Speaker B: Maybe they implement that in Ice Cube's 3 on 3 league. Get a little.
[00:22:39] Speaker A: No, penalty box.
Yeah, penalty box. Like, I'm all for it.
[00:22:44] Speaker C: I mean, that's what that's what the red card is in soccer. You know, you just, you're shouting out
[00:22:48] Speaker A: there on the front of it, though. It's for the whole permanent power.
[00:22:50] Speaker C: Power play.
[00:22:52] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. No, that, that was really bad. He deserved to go off. He's like, oh, my God, what happened?
[00:22:58] Speaker B: The thing is, it's a yellow card, but he got in a yellow card, what, like 10 minutes before for a tackle where he literally, just literally tackled the guy. He thought he was on the NFL when he just went in there with a little shoulder chuck on a. Dude.
[00:23:09] Speaker A: Yeah, they were going pretty aggressive against Argentina in that game. Well, you have to yet you have to rough him up. You have to rough him up. I can't blame him.
Trying to play a little Detroit Pistons basketball there.
That quarterfinal, semifinals all wrapped up, man. Now we're just down the final on Sunday. I'm kind of missing World cup every day, actually. I know I was getting burnt out with all the sports happening, but now with like the days without the sports. Now we don't have any baseball right now. And then I'm stuck watching women's basketball highlights, which. Hey, I, I'm, you know, you're an
[00:23:41] Speaker B: advocate of the WNBA realm. I've been the only advocate on the show.
[00:23:45] Speaker A: Huh?
[00:23:45] Speaker B: You're only advocate on the show for WNBA basketball?
[00:23:48] Speaker A: I am, but it's just only so much I can handle, you know.
[00:23:52] Speaker C: Seems a little harder to find with the new rights agreement.
[00:23:55] Speaker B: You're right.
What's it not on ESPN anymore?
[00:23:59] Speaker C: I think it's like much usa, NBC, sportsnet. I think there might be some on Amazon.
[00:24:06] Speaker A: It's not good to put women's sports on like all these different platforms because men can do it. You got to put them on prime time. Just cable. Like, it's easy to find.
Like, do I want to watch Rambo for the 16th time or do I want to catch a little bit like the Aces Sparks game?
[00:24:22] Speaker C: I could just be my bias towards ESPN because I feel like it's just like a constant like sports term when you have to go to some of these different networks that isn't used to like not your primary sports. I don't know. It always seems like to change Umba in the news though. The commissioner. No, no, no. Show Dan Patrick show this week.
[00:24:39] Speaker A: Dan Patrick went on a big old tirade about it. Not crazy big, but X was kind of ripping on him a little bit, saying he's all full of himself.
But maybe that is the case
[00:24:51] Speaker B: set up and she didn't show up or
[00:24:53] Speaker A: what this guy's probably the most like, you know, like even keeled, you know, sports interviewer out there. And she said she's gonna show up. You know, she promised Fritzi and the guys she doesn't show up. And then is what I loved about the Dan Patrick show. And they kept on replaying and all the socials, even Colin Cowers talking about it. Every sports guy was talking about it while she did a no show or like last minute, the leak says she can't do it. She's out golfing 100 yards away, practicing in the dunes. In the sand dunes. Even hits a golf ball into the studio.
Like it's. It's wild.
[00:25:36] Speaker C: That was crazy. I.
I think damn's obviously in the right. I know we're squirreling off topic bringing that up right now, but yeah, her being at the driving range while they're talking about it on segment was pretty much pretty par for the course.
[00:25:49] Speaker A: But she got to go.
She's kind of jacked up the whole mishandling the WNBA lately.
[00:25:58] Speaker C: But Ron, this is the, I think the slowest week of sports. So historically that's why you have the SBS tonight.
[00:26:05] Speaker A: Oh, that explains it.
I used to watch the SPS every year I call a bit when I got home.
[00:26:13] Speaker C: The World cup game actually throws it off a little bit because it used to be this was like the one day of the year there was no sports.
[00:26:19] Speaker A: Ah, you're right.
But there was how they couldn't move until tomorrow.
[00:26:24] Speaker B: Then you do have a baseball game tomorrow.
I don't know if that's why, but yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:26:30] Speaker C: Usually it's like the Wednesday. There's nothing because baseball doesn't play Wednesday, but they start playing Thursday, so.
[00:26:35] Speaker A: Got it.
[00:26:37] Speaker B: They're.
[00:26:37] Speaker A: They're showing highlights right on the Argentina game. That's a nice goal, dude.
It's a nice goal.
Any thoughts on the final or the third place game? First of all, you guys gonna watch the third place game? France, England. And if so, are the main guys gonna be playing? Because pretty much it's a wrap, right? Like do teams actually care about the third place game? Is this something we should ask chat or AI about?
[00:27:04] Speaker C: I feel like they play their guys, but I. Maybe not the whole game because like
[00:27:09] Speaker A: today they're saying like, oh, this might be Messi's last World cup game. Like wait a minute. If they lose, they're going to the third place game.
[00:27:16] Speaker B: That.
[00:27:16] Speaker A: Do you mean he's not gonna play in the third place game? Is that what that means? Because they were talking about like this was it. Yeah, and then bam. Equalizer. We might be going extra time. Bam.
[00:27:28] Speaker C: I, I would assume. I mean the, the, the.
We got to be like a month out until all the European leagues start up and everything like that. So these guys are basically like leaving here maybe get a week off and probably going to training camp for their clubs.
[00:27:44] Speaker A: Yeah, they have a long season.
[00:27:45] Speaker B: Right. I do believe. I think they were saying that the third place gets at least a medal for third place winning it. I mean I don't know if it's bragging rights or not.
You don't ever want it. Like we Rome, we talked about this on Monday.
When you're driving back up to the Bear. You don't ever want to be the team that kind of loses two straight
[00:28:04] Speaker A: at the World Cup.
[00:28:05] Speaker B: It kind of sucks like you finished fourth but you lost your last two games.
There's not any other team that really can say that during the knockout stage.
[00:28:13] Speaker A: So quick little AI search it says since the players are typically drained physically immensely especially after losing to getting to the finals at this point in time many star players will possibly play in the first half and that's about it.
Or unless they're going after records like the Golden Boot or more or more.
[00:28:33] Speaker B: More. I don't think the Golden Boot you get credit for goals in that game.
No, I don't know because they were saying that Messi could it now is the front runner to win it. So he's tied with Mbappe. So I don't guess Mbappe's goals don't count for that. I don't know.
[00:28:51] Speaker A: Let's look it up real quick.
[00:28:52] Speaker B: That's what it sounded like.
[00:28:53] Speaker C: They made it seem third place usually is getting like you said, the medal, a higher FIFA ranking and a larger share of the prize money. So I don't know if these guys
[00:29:01] Speaker B: are splitting those guys, Dembele, they don't. They don't really need the money. But maybe lower tier guys.
[00:29:08] Speaker A: They're pretty good prediction on the third place game then.
[00:29:10] Speaker C: I think Aaron called it earlier. I think England's drained.
France probably pretty deep they got guys if they're gonna pull, they're gonna pull Baba everything out they pro. They're probably in a deeper team.
[00:29:25] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean I don't know about the Golden Boot. I mean if that does count and Bobby is going to want to try to win that since he's tied up with eight goals of Messi. But yeah, I mean if you're France they didn't show up to play. So I think they with the extra day of Rest too will be more, kind of intrigued more to win this game. England tough because they, they basically had that game, the lead for 85 minutes. I mean, France was basically never in that game. I think they'll want to get in a rhythm.
England, I mean, you're going to look back on this game.
I mean the, the coach there and his strategy going to a defensive outlook there, the final 30 minutes plus stoppage time. They'll look back on this game four years later and go, wow, we. We let a golden opportunity get away. France okay.
So I don't know, the announcers seemed like Messi had it kind of wrapped up or was going to win that golden boot. But Mbappe, I think he probably gets at least a goal in that game against England.
I like France. I like France to win it.
[00:30:28] Speaker A: Nice.
I got no positioning, but maybe I'll watch it for a little bit. Maybe I'll pop in here.
[00:30:34] Speaker B: You got in the final room.
[00:30:36] Speaker A: It's tough, dude. I'm going for Spain for the home country, you know, It sucks though, because I've been rooting for Argentina.
[00:30:47] Speaker B: I know the whole time you're here, Romy, he kept telling me that you were telling people, oh, I got Argentina to win this thing. So I'm happy they keep it.
[00:30:53] Speaker A: Yeah. I didn't know they're gonna face Spain though, in the final. It's because kind of blows. I. I feel like they like you're just talking.
[00:31:00] Speaker C: It was all just fixed for Argentina. You're like going to the conspiracy theories about might be.
[00:31:06] Speaker A: I don't know, someone predicted like, like the last, like 10 World World Cups that's been circulating on like social.
It's pretty funny. He has Argentina winning back to back and then Spain winning the next one and then.
[00:31:19] Speaker B: And then Spain is the host of the next one. So that would make sense that they do win.
[00:31:23] Speaker A: Ah, a nice young team, actually. They'll be hitting it on all cylinders though.
[00:31:29] Speaker B: Jason put on a nice stat. I think before the tournament started, if you weren't in the top six of the odds, you never win the World Cup. Was that what the. Is that what it was stipulation you mentioned?
[00:31:37] Speaker C: Yeah, it was something like that. Yeah.
[00:31:39] Speaker B: It's crazy.
[00:31:40] Speaker A: That's crazy.
[00:31:41] Speaker B: Well, the top 14 Fever Ring teams played in the final, so. Yeah.
[00:31:45] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, like this guy that predicted the.
The World World cup winners, how old this guy?
[00:31:53] Speaker B: He's already got the last 10.
[00:31:55] Speaker A: Don't know. But like after, like the next one though, there's no World cup for the following two World Cups because There's a world war going on. And then he predicts like the new Iberian Peninsula winning it again. After that. It's like something like that.
[00:32:06] Speaker B: It's like ridiculous.
[00:32:08] Speaker A: The Persian Empire and I don't know.
[00:32:11] Speaker B: So we get this World cup after 2030, the world's basically dead. And then we come back, what, a decade later?
Yeah, that's what they. Is that. Is that what the stipulation is?
[00:32:20] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what it is.
[00:32:21] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:22] Speaker A: Missing two World Cups like too. We're missing two World Cups. We're in like, if you called this
[00:32:26] Speaker B: like 20 years ago, this guy's a prophet. If he's just calling it now, it's not really saying much.
[00:32:30] Speaker A: If we're missing two World Cups, we're like in Terminator in real life.
[00:32:34] Speaker B: AI chat GBT I'm not old enough to miss two World Cups. I mean, if I was my 70s, 80s. Okay. But you know, we're right now like at our prime for World Cups. Yeah, I don't want to be missing two.
[00:32:44] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm going for Spain all the way.
[00:32:47] Speaker B: But that's. You think wins Rome. I know you're rooting for that, but who do you think wins the game?
[00:32:53] Speaker A: The defense, man. I, I think defense wins championships.
I think defense wins championships and I think Yamal will finally cut through and, and score. But it's messy, you know, it's messy. They got some good offensive guys.
They're aging out. This is it. This is the last time for Argentina. I did pick them. The win back to back World Cups. I just thought they have like a nice mix of young and old and they're all pretty seasoned. I think they are the oldest team. Right.
[00:33:19] Speaker B: Averages I think 30 in this world
[00:33:20] Speaker A: cup, but like not aggressively old. You know, Belgium looked older and they were slower and not as imaginative. But Argentina is kind of hitting in on all cylinders here now with the couple win by the skin of your teeth victories.
Oh, no.
From like a historical standpoint,
[00:33:42] Speaker B: we asked the wrong guy. Jason. We can never get an answer out of this guy. You know, it's like, it's like getting picks in the college football contest.
[00:33:48] Speaker C: I was gonna let him keep going and going and going.
[00:33:51] Speaker B: Once this keeps the pick the game, the World cup would already be over by then yourselves.
[00:33:57] Speaker A: Who do you guys have?
[00:34:00] Speaker C: I think it's easy. Spain.
[00:34:02] Speaker A: Okay, Aaron, quick answer.
[00:34:06] Speaker B: I picked, I picked Spain before the contest started, the tournament.
Spain looks like the obvious favorite, but I don't know. My gut tells me Argentina is going to find a way to pull it out. So I'll take, I'll take Argentina in extra time. They take, they take Spain into deep waters where they haven't been, which they haven't gotten extra time and they, they break them. They break them. I like Argentina in the extra time
[00:34:31] Speaker A: when probabilities for Spain winning during regulation 42, Argentina 2731 that it goes to extra time and that's leaning towards Argentina. So that's funny that you picked that.
[00:34:47] Speaker B: I'm hitting 82 in this World Cup Rome. Are you really 2% 36. Eight in this tournament.
[00:34:54] Speaker A: Why don't you do that for the college football document?
[00:34:56] Speaker B: Hey man, I'm good every four years. So give it back to me in
[00:35:00] Speaker C: three years in college football to remember this for next World Cup.
[00:35:04] Speaker B: Yeah, I got the documented record on Capper Tech Rome. You can, you know, I sent you the link. You can check the record there. It's documentary. This isn't bs.
[00:35:13] Speaker A: I do want to check it out now. You don't even watch soccer, Rome.
[00:35:18] Speaker B: As soon as I can analyze something, this brain works good for that stuff, man.
[00:35:23] Speaker C: Aaron's just sitting at the bar at Cisco watching the TV with his steak and his beer and he's just down, just downloading information.
[00:35:31] Speaker B: That's. Hey, Jason's right.
[00:35:34] Speaker A: How was that steak by the way?
[00:35:36] Speaker B: It was pretty good, Rome. It was pretty good. A little ribeye, medium rare, 12 ouncer when the beer went down. Smooth.
[00:35:43] Speaker A: Yeah, nice.
[00:35:47] Speaker B: Any other I would take, I would take Argentina.
I would take. Is my best bet for the game would probably be Argentina plus one because I don't see him losing by more than one goal. And if it goes into extra time, you win that bet because it's during the 90 minute play plus stoppage. So Argentina plus one. Lay the Jews. That'd be my best bet for that game. Okay, that's what I'll release. It's free now. I'm releasing that now. Five bucks. You can pay for it on the website, but I'll release it free to the audience.
[00:36:13] Speaker A: So are you plugging in your little capper website then?
[00:36:17] Speaker B: Yeah, we want to check it out. Rome.
[00:36:19] Speaker A: Yeah, go ahead, check it out.
[00:36:21] Speaker B: CapperTech.com@ Sources FT Pod. Check it out, man. $5. You can get picks there.
[00:36:29] Speaker A: By the way, Aaron just abandoned our, our partnership here. With who?
[00:36:35] Speaker B: I can't get in the way. I can't get in there anymore. Rome. So I had to go my own way and you, you disappeared there from the super bowl on to I don't know what was it, Dub sports or
[00:36:44] Speaker A: what Was it on?
[00:36:45] Speaker B: Was it dub? It might have been dub sports, but I. I got kicked off the login.
Yeah.
[00:36:53] Speaker A: All right, let's take a quick break. We'll come back and talk some other sports. I guess.
As we get back into action to Talk a little F1. I guess maybe Aaron wants to give his two cents on Conor McGregor's Aaron Rodgers like appearance at the latest UFC match that lasted approximately two seconds.
If you guys remember Aaron Rodgers jacking up his leg on the first play or second play in a Jets uniform.
Pretty epic entrance with the American flag.
[00:37:35] Speaker B: And it's actually Aaron Rodgers. Moore plays because McGregor jacked up his knee on his first attempted move kick. Yeah.
[00:37:42] Speaker A: Crazy, man.
[00:37:43] Speaker B: That's all right, man. I had Max Holloway in that fight in the under. So you catch that parlay. If you're following my picks, Rome, someone
[00:37:50] Speaker A: had an interesting stat about Halloways where he's had the most experience in championship fights. Like, I guess like rounds wise more than McGregor. And like when you pair, you know, compared it stats to stats like McGregor had no chance and. But 90 of the money. It was like 95 plus percent of the money was on McGregor in Vegas. So Vegas made out this past week.
[00:38:17] Speaker B: McGregor is always a fan. I mean, look, dude, he hasn't done
[00:38:20] Speaker A: anything in 10 years.
[00:38:21] Speaker B: He's 38 and he hasn't fought in five years.
That's a terrible recipe. That's rough, I guess against a guy that is still a very, very good fighter. Experienced fighter seeking revenge and a rematch from 13 years ago.
This was a neat. This was an easy fight to pick, man. I mean, that's where I. Holloway was like minus. I think he started like 280, got down to like 230. But yeah, Halloween. The under two and a half rounds was easy.
That was an easy one, man.
[00:38:51] Speaker A: Nice.
I didn't catch any of the card.
I. Because that was the Argentina game, I think Argentina that night.
[00:38:58] Speaker B: Yes. That was going on the same time, the main card.
[00:39:01] Speaker A: I was at my aunt's house. She won the Washington McGregor fight because I guess. I guess she's a McGregor fan.
[00:39:06] Speaker B: A lot of people are.
[00:39:08] Speaker A: They had some McGregor whiskey. I was like, I'm like Proper 12.
[00:39:11] Speaker B: Proper 12.
[00:39:12] Speaker A: Yeah, I was. I was really curious, like, who actually buys this shit? And she had a bottle of it. There you go.
[00:39:17] Speaker B: I think McGregor sold his. His ownership in that. Or maybe he had to because of
[00:39:21] Speaker A: the sexual assault thing.
[00:39:23] Speaker B: All the other stuff outside the octagon.
[00:39:26] Speaker A: By the way, slight pivot here or a tangent.
I have not finished the New Roadhouse yet, but I started watching it yesterday.
[00:39:35] Speaker B: The one on Amazon?
[00:39:37] Speaker A: Well, yeah, but with.
[00:39:39] Speaker B: Yeah, the.
[00:39:40] Speaker A: The remake.
[00:39:41] Speaker C: Gregor and Jake Gyllenhaal, like three years ago.
[00:39:43] Speaker A: Yeah, terrible. It's bad acting. The script sucks. I don't know which one of you guys recommended it, but it's God awful. And like, it's. I was really excited, you know, because Roadhouse is a badass movie. It. For me, it's like on the.
It's on the Mount Rushmore, guys movies that you have to watch.
Roadhouse is one of them.
I don't think it's like, guys, huh?
[00:40:10] Speaker C: I don't think we recommend it to you.
[00:40:12] Speaker A: Okay, someone did, but it's bad. Or maybe someone said it was good. What did you say? Jason, what do you think of it?
[00:40:21] Speaker C: I haven't seen it.
[00:40:22] Speaker A: Oh, Mike, why not? You're like, it'll look good.
But you watch a lot of bad movies, though, don't you? That's fair.
[00:40:29] Speaker C: I do. I watch good movies, too.
[00:40:31] Speaker A: But no, yeah, yeah, like you watch anything.
[00:40:34] Speaker B: Yeah, Jason. Yeah, Jason does watch a lot of stuff.
I'm trying to remember.
[00:40:40] Speaker C: Jack Ryan movie this last week on Amazon.
[00:40:42] Speaker A: How was it?
[00:40:43] Speaker B: What'd you think of that one? I watched it. Okay.
The show's good. The show was good.
Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
[00:40:50] Speaker C: This was a movie sequel to the show, but the show was a lot better than it should have just been
[00:40:56] Speaker B: another season of the show, let's put it that way.
[00:40:58] Speaker A: I saw previews of that movie because it was, you know, playing advertising before the Roadhouse movie, but, yeah, I didn't know McGregor was in it. Terrible actor. He's naked in the movie. It's disgusting. I don't want to see that. He just acts like a big jerk. Like.
[00:41:13] Speaker B: Like McGregor played who he is. Who he is in that movie is who he is in real life and in the ufc.
[00:41:20] Speaker A: Well, if that's the way he is, then I'm. You know, maybe those sexual assault charges are actually true. It's like.
[00:41:26] Speaker B: Like, let's just.
Yeah, I mean, some of them.
Some of them are kind of suspicious, circumstance wise, but.
Well, yeah. Didn't he have the one with the. I never read Miami Heat or something?
I don't know. I don't remember all the stories on it.
[00:41:46] Speaker A: I still got like 20 minutes left, but. But it's not good joke. Jake. Jake Gyllenhaal is a pretty good actor. I would say he's one of the better ones in our generation or in our lifetime. This might be one of his worst movies ever.
And I can't really name another bad movie he's actually been in, but it's bad.
It's really bad. All right, so back to the UFC. McGregor goes down. He's out.
Last fight. He said he still wants to fight again.
[00:42:16] Speaker B: Contract Rome. He'll. He'll. He'll fight that out whenever that is. I don't know.
[00:42:20] Speaker A: Crazy. That's. That's.
[00:42:22] Speaker B: But he does. He does have one fight left. He'll get paid. Let's see if he gets healthy. I don't know if he's got an acl, meniscus, whatever he's got.
[00:42:28] Speaker A: I haven't released any information yet.
[00:42:30] Speaker B: Yeah, McGregor's being quiet. Says he needs surgery, so we'll see. See what that is.
A lot of. A lot of suspicions. Maybe he came into the fight hurt or not.
[00:42:42] Speaker A: One theory that I heard, because he had a great workout, right? He. He had a whole bunch of antics going to the fight. I was moving around pretty freely. Didn't show any, like, grimacing on. On the leg.
Some people believe he might have heard it on the final days of training.
Didn't think much of it, and then they kind of masked it, and then he kind of overcompensated right then and there. Kick one on the fight, and that was it. That was the final straw. Bam. Done.
[00:43:07] Speaker B: I. I don't know if it was that or maybe he heard it or something popped during that. The walkout. Right. Because, I mean, if you've seen this part where he's taking his shoe off, kind of look like the knee kind of does what you're. A knee did. Rome kind of just, like, buckle tightened where he kind of, like, paused.
[00:43:21] Speaker A: The one I'm still rehabbing.
[00:43:23] Speaker B: Yeah. And then he kind of started jumping on it again.
Obviously felt okay, maybe the adrenaline rushing in, but that move was just stupid to begin with.
Coming out, doing a flying kick to start a fight. I mean, nobody. Nobody does that unless you're, like, 21, 22, trying to make a name for yourself. It was just. Just dumb. Should have just came out, laid the hands on Holloway, tried to get a knockout with him in the first three, four minutes. That was really his only chance to win.
But, yeah, for me, the big fight was Patty Pimlet. The fight before you had France versus England, which we now have in this World cup, that I thought maybe that could have been the final.
But Patty Pimlet choking out and getting that win there, the little doors choke, that was a pretty nice little move there as he gets back in the winter circle. As obviously, he lost his last fight against Justin Gaethje, who is now the champion in that division after the Freedom250 win at the White House against Ilia Deportia. So, Pimlet, good win for him.
And, I mean, overall, I thought the card was. The card was decent. I mean, I was watching with the soccer game.
I don't know how many people were. You know, soccer is probably getting the headlines there, but you have two different apps, but, yeah, that's why you gotta have two multiple TVs, multiple action going on at the same time.
I hit three out of four of my best bets in the UFC that night. So, hey, I mean, it's. It's been a good month, man, if you're following the picks.
[00:44:48] Speaker A: Yeah, my aunt wanted to put on the fight. The game just ended because we were in extra time, and I'm like, let's put it on.
And then I was like, never mind. Thea, fight's over. She's like, what do you mean it's over?
Like, it just started. But she's like, it just started. I'm like, and it just ended. It's done.
What happened? Broke his leg. He's out.
[00:45:11] Speaker B: I mean, that's the good thing now about not having pay per view, because the pay per view would have paid 80 bucks for this fight.
So now you're just paying, what, 11.99, 13.99 for Paramount Plus.
[00:45:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:45:22] Speaker B: Better deal, man.
[00:45:23] Speaker A: Thank God.
Did you watch it, Jason?
[00:45:28] Speaker C: I watched the. After the fight was over because I turned it on late. I forgot it was on, and someone sent a text about the fight, and then I turned it on, and they were already announcing the winner. I'm like, oh. And so I kind of just rewinded it, actually, and I didn't rewind it.
[00:45:43] Speaker B: They.
[00:45:43] Speaker C: They replayed the whole fight, actually.
So I was like, oh, okay.
[00:45:49] Speaker B: Well. And that.
[00:45:49] Speaker C: That was it. So, no, I. I did not see the whole event. I was watching the other game, forgot it was on.
Aaron's the UFC correspondent. I only check it when I need to, but I. I will say it's. It's rather disappointing with McGregor overall. I think this is. I think my biggest problem with ufc. Aaron's much more into the weeds and everything when it comes to the UFC roster up and down. But this is where, like, ufc, when it comes to stars, man, like, this guy was, like, biggest star UFC had, and, you know, it's been quite the
[00:46:22] Speaker A: downfall for the past five, six years.
[00:46:25] Speaker C: I just think most of these guys that I have from a UFC perspective is, is, it's all, it's all downfall. It's always the fall. You know, it's, you know, maybe it's my bias towards professional wrestling, where it's predetermined so you can have a 45 year old star still be world champion and have the rise and everything like that, but, you know, once these guys kind of hit a wall, it really, you know, it's a pretty steep decline. And they, they just start losing fights at their fights. And then we're just looking at, you know, using the name to headline and hoping for one, a one last gasp on it. I mean, what was, what was the fight at UFC at the White House for the upset, Aaron? Because that guy hadn't won a fight in a while, right? That, I mean, that was like one of the biggest upsides ever, right? But that, because that guy hadn't won a fight in a while, I could be mistaken. You're the expert on it. But, yeah, I mean, yeah, there were
[00:47:14] Speaker B: no upsets at the White House. I mean, they did throw Michael Chandler in there, and he just got demolished. He's kind of a guy that's 40 years old, too. I mean, to Jason's point, I mean, UFC fighters kind of age like soccer guys, right? What Messi's doing at 39 is incredible, but once you get like 34, you shouldn't be on a World cup pitch, right? That's kind of like the UFC now. Once you get 36, 37.
We saw it with Anderson Silva, who's probably one of the greatest mixed martial arts of all time. Now he's still boxing at 50 years old, but you saw him, like all a sudden, he just started getting knocked out. I mean, your, your, your cardio is not as good, your chin's not as good. You can't take the punishment like you used to. You got to be a lot more tactical. Your skill set's going down. You got a lot of young guys coming up trying to make a name for themselves, and it's, it's, it's tough, right? It's tough. And plus the wear and tear on your body, it just, it's.
There's so many guys, so many more, so many young guys, so much more talent, and the UFC has gotten so much more bigger. I mean, if you're a champion on top for like three, four years and you defend your title like five, six times, like, that's great.
I mean, that's great. I mean, the days of Anderson Silva boning 14 in a row, Conor McGregor winning 12 in a row Volganowski kind of a guy at 135 that's like our age has won like eight out of 11 title fights. Like, you're just not going to see that much more.
Now, the guy that's a champion that division is 23 years old, right? So. And he may get knocked off. There's just so many young, talented guys coming in because now martial arts is. It's a big thing. So guys are now training that at 9, 10, not versus, like, oh, hey, I didn't make it in the NFL. Hey, like Brock Lesnar, like Brock Lesnar kind of caught the heavyweight division at the right time. It wasn't very good at the ufc. Now if he was going there, dude, he'd get. He'd just get demolished and beat the. And he'd fight like CM Punk 2 fights and go back to the WWE. Like, it's. It's not for the faint of heart. It's not an easy sport to get into. And like Jason said, it's not. It's not scripted. So even though some fights, like any boxing fight, could be a little bit rigged, right? You kind of like, what are the judges looking at? But for the most part, it's a young man sport. It's tough to win in this game. At 36, 37, 38, there are some guys that can do it. But McGregor off for five years, he just turned 38. He's got one fight left on his contract.
They'll probably give him another guy that's been a veteran in the sport, pin him on the undercard of the main event and just, hey, go out and throw blows for five minutes and somebody get knocked out. And maybe he looks good and he signs a new contract and fights again, but who knows? I mean, his last three fights he's been knocked out. Broken leg and torn meniscus. So over the last six years.
[00:50:04] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, I was thinking of. I was thinking of Justin Gaethje, Aaron, the last one, he was a dog, right?
[00:50:10] Speaker B: Yeah, Gaethje was the underdog that won, but he'd won some fights, but he not. He not won a title fight. So I think he was like, oh, and three in title fights.
[00:50:18] Speaker C: Okay. Yeah, that's the.
But he had, he had. He had beaten Patty, I think his
[00:50:24] Speaker B: previous fight, Patty, the fight before, to become like an intern or whatever because Ilya was off for like six months dealing with some domestic stuff of his ex wife, girlfriend and stuff there. So he came back. But yeah, because Gates, he's lost a Holloway.
He'd lost To Oliveira, all the top guys had basically beat Gaethje and could be kind of like this was like his last chance.
Great fight. I think you watched that fight, Jason. But that was. That was a great fight. I mean, that was a.
That was a war there.
And we'll see. We'll see what happens. Maybe he gets a rematch with Patty.
I mean, Patty wants him. Patty's a young guy, looks kind of quirky, nerdy, whatever.
I mean, he does when his song comes out. You do get hyped for the fights though, man. You do get typed. Everybody gets hyped for the music. When he comes out and he can fight. The dude can fight. He kind of looks stupid and acts kind of stupid, but dude can throw down. I gotta respect him.
[00:51:25] Speaker A: All right, let's switch skiers into F1.
[00:51:31] Speaker C: I see what you did there.
[00:51:32] Speaker B: I like that. Rome. I like that.
[00:51:33] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:51:34] Speaker B: You've been practicing that for your comedy show or what?
[00:51:37] Speaker A: You know, I am writing some new material for my. For my comedy.
I'll probably go back on stage. I think it was tomorrow. It's my one year anniversary. The first time I hit the stage.
[00:51:47] Speaker B: Are you making your debut back in Vegas there?
Is that when you're making comeback? Is that. Has that been data been announced?
[00:51:55] Speaker A: I'm gonna do a set back at Wise Guys. Most definitely.
[00:51:58] Speaker B: We'll be in Vegas the 26th through 28th of August.
Jason, I know you might be working, but if you can get that pto. There you go. Come on down circle. Have you open bar on the house,
[00:52:10] Speaker A: man, come Thursday and Friday.
[00:52:11] Speaker B: Yeah, you could do it at least Friday you get the pool. Open bar until 4:00pm yeah.
[00:52:18] Speaker C: Business, right?
[00:52:18] Speaker B: It is networking. Just not in your distribution kind of networking, but a little different networking.
[00:52:25] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:52:25] Speaker B: Spreads over unders game props.
[00:52:28] Speaker A: Bunch of gambling addicts, dude. That's what it is.
[00:52:31] Speaker B: That is what it is.
[00:52:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:52:34] Speaker B: Fun times.
[00:52:36] Speaker A: Good times. Yeah.
Yeah. F1. So we got Belgium Grand Prix this weekend.
I haven't actually heard too much drama in the past week. It's been kind of quiet, I think.
[00:52:47] Speaker B: Right.
[00:52:47] Speaker C: I think the drama. I can't remember if we talked about the pod. It's really bad. Been. It's been Verstappen Piastri related and we. I mean, we talk about.
[00:52:56] Speaker B: I think you touched on that. Can be a possible swap for swap driver there. Right, Jason?
[00:53:00] Speaker A: We did talk about that.
[00:53:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:53:03] Speaker C: So I. I think that's potentially drama we're getting into.
[00:53:07] Speaker A: Nico.
I heard that one.
[00:53:12] Speaker C: I haven't heard that one, actually. No, no.
[00:53:15] Speaker A: Heard he's on the way out. And is it Sergio that they want to get over or is it Signs? Signs. It's Signs, yeah.
More or less already locked in to take a spot with Audi.
[00:53:32] Speaker C: Signs was, I mean Audie was in it for signs when he was, you know, kicked out of Ferrari and I think Signs, his dad who does like rally cars, you know, works with Audi for that.
So I know that had been rumored in the past. And then obviously Williams was good last year. They were the, the best of the rest in the number five team, but they've been awful this year.
James Vowels, though team principal for Williams, says he's confident having a long term plan for Carlos. So I, I think he is hell bent on keeping him around there. But yeah, this is that time of the year I think really once the British or the Belgian Grand Prix is over. This weekend we're into full on kind of silly season where you get the month long break and you're going to be talking about contracts and movement to the next season and Verstappen probably is, you know, the one that's going to shuffle the deck, you know, whatever his decision is going to be.
[00:54:31] Speaker B: Do you think, do you think he moves on?
I mean, what's your gut tell you? Like he's going to pull a LeBron and just let Red Bull know, hey, I'm, I'm done, I'm moving on.
I think he's out.
I feel like he's, I mean that too.
[00:54:44] Speaker C: I just don't know what's left for him at Red Bull at this point. I mean we talked about it last year and even the beginning of this year, like the Red Bull organizations had this brain drain of talent. You know, they've gotten, you know, they've lost Newey to Aston Martin, they fired Horner, they lost, I forgot who it was that went to Audi, but he already, Jonathan Wheatley, he was a team principal for, for Audi but he left already Audi.
Max's race engineers leaving for McLaren like next year or the year after or something like that. And so you know, rebels losing all of these guys that put together that dominant car that gave Max the four straight world championships.
So I, I, I don't know, I mean you historically F1, the best driver wants the best car and so is he chasing a Mercedes. And Mercedes has been kind of quiet. It's been all about McLaren being the team to Verstappen the past month or so. But I, I would, I would guess it's down to McLaren and Mercedes if Max is going to make a move and where he's going to press it. Those are the only two teams that may even would make sense for him to do it. He's not going to go to one of these bottom tier teams where the car is not going to be remotely good for years and to come. Mercedes is the best car. McLaren has the Mercedes engine, but has a group of engineers that knew how to make the aerodynamic packages work in the previous set. If he's confident they can do that, the next one, I mean, that's pretty much Max's only move, I would say, between those two teams
[00:56:13] Speaker A: with so.
[00:56:14] Speaker B: So with that or the third option
[00:56:17] Speaker C: is not race F1.
[00:56:18] Speaker B: So if he goes to Mercedes, that means Russell's gone, right? I mean, they're not going to get rid of Antonelli, right?
[00:56:25] Speaker C: No, they're not getting Antonelli. A Russell would be gone.
[00:56:27] Speaker B: All right. I mean, Piastri on the other side with McLaren.
[00:56:32] Speaker C: Hey, yeah, Lando's right now. Lando, yeah, it's pretty much Piastri. So I think Lando's already inked up. I think they're, they had contracts, I think released for these guys, you know, rumor contracts or whatever where I think Lando makes more than Piastri and he's locked in potentially longer, but I think
[00:56:52] Speaker A: doing pretty good too with the limitations of the car this year.
[00:56:55] Speaker B: But I think if you're piastre, you'd want to move on, right? I mean, he kind of feels, I don't know who, he hasn't probably said it publicly, but he feels, yeah, slighted that he was kind of, even when he was in the lead, seemed like the second Papyrus guy behind Lando last year. That's kind of how it felt.
[00:57:10] Speaker C: I think it's tough for these guys when they're weighing their options because you can be unhappy being the McLaren number two, but you, you know, you're only leaving if you're guaranteeing yourself a Red bull Ferrari or McLaren seat or Red Bull seat. You know, there's four top teams. You're not leaving to go to Haas or Aston Martin or something like that. Cadillac from McLaren.
[00:57:35] Speaker B: That's where this show's at. We're back out there, we're in Cadillac. We're hit and miss. Whether or not we can even finish a pot or race.
Yeah, just.
[00:57:44] Speaker C: I mean, Cadillac's better than the Aston Martin at this point, but yeah, yeah. So I think that's the risk for Piastra. I think you look at the same thing with George Russell too. I mean, what, what he's looking at too. If he loses if they, if they kick him to the curb for Max.
Where. Where's George's destination going to? Is. Is one of these other three top teams gonna pick him up?
[00:58:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:58:02] Speaker C: Does Red Bull go after him? Or would.
[00:58:06] Speaker B: If, let's say Russell does become a free agent, would somebody like Ferrari or somebody get in the mix and want to do something?
[00:58:15] Speaker C: They just locked up Charles.
[00:58:17] Speaker B: They just locked up Charles Hamilton. He's having a great comeback, but he's. He's. Was he 38, 39?
[00:58:25] Speaker C: He's 40. And they already got his. They already got his successor. It's Ali Bearman. He's the Ferrari, you know, development driver. That's right there.
[00:58:32] Speaker B: Russell's there. Do you.
Do you put him on hold? What do you do?
[00:58:37] Speaker C: I think that's where these guys have run into this generation of young drivers that are all just like coming up right now where, like, you can.
In the past, these guys are just hop teams or whatever, but now, you know, there's four clear hot top teams and I don't think the drivers have as much leverages they maybe once did because the rides are a little more secure. If you want to win a world championship, you basically got four options right now. And so there's eight. Eight seats to fit in. And it's. It's tough choosing. I don't know.
[00:59:12] Speaker A: Besides all the drama, looks like a lot of teams are going to be debuting a lot of upgrades on their cars this week, especially McLaren.
They're bringing a significant upgrade package, allegedly to start competing with the top teams this, this weekend.
I'm kind of curious what all those upgrades are. Ferrari, I think, I mean, just right,
[00:59:33] Speaker B: we have the budget. I mean, that's what we've been hearing. Did they even have the budget to keep doing all these upgrades?
[00:59:37] Speaker A: Ferrari is bringing out a new wing to give them a little more top speed to compete with the Mercedes team. That'll be pretty interesting.
And then I think even Honda did some upgrades for Aston Martin and they're going to be debuting that this weekend as well.
[00:59:54] Speaker B: If they can finish a race, that's an upgrade, right?
Yeah.
[00:59:58] Speaker A: So a lot of upgrades for this race. We're going to be seeing new revamped cars.
Kind of curious how that pans out.
[01:00:07] Speaker C: Yeah, no, we mentioned the Ferrari budget stuff. I think that was a little bit of a talk about how much they have left, but I think the conversation has been like, how much did Mercedes put their resources into making sure the car was ready for the beginning of the season? Did Ferrari lag on using Some of their resources, preseason and using it all into kind of the rough, you know, reactive stuff that they're doing now and upgrades during the season. So I think that's where a lot of the conversation of costs go. Were they pre or post? I mean, you're probably not going to know till the season's end. Only the teams know. But I think that's a lot of questions about. Ferrari's brought so many upgrades where the rest of the rest of the top teams haven't.
How much have they used of their cost cap?
[01:00:55] Speaker B: They don't make that. They don't. They don't make that public. What they have left in the. So, like, say, whatever you got 20 million. They can't be like, oh, we've used 12 of the 20 million. That's not public knowledge among the teams.
[01:01:06] Speaker C: I don't think it's current. No, I think it's like. Because I think it's like a final report at the end of the year or something like that. Because, I mean, when Red Bull was that two years ago?
[01:01:14] Speaker B: Can you skim the books?
Hey, like, hey, we, you know, we put in a Gatorade machine that cost us $200,000. I don't know about that, but, yeah, I.
[01:01:24] Speaker C: That was what Red Bull always said. Because when Red Bull went over the cost cap a couple years ago, they said it was for, like, team events or parties or something like that.
[01:01:32] Speaker B: No wonder Christian Horner's out. No wonder he's gone, man, out there. He's out there partying a little too much with Red Bull. Gives you wings. You know, I don't.
[01:01:40] Speaker C: I don't think it's till the end. I don't think it's till the end of the year. I don't exactly know what the penalties are into it, but I'm sure these. These guys will be, you know, ratting at each other.
[01:01:49] Speaker B: That's all it is. It's just a rat. Everybody's just whatever a gossip they can release on every driver, team, everything, man. Everyone's glued in on what every team is doing. Pit stop, if you use the restroom, who you're seeing. Everybody knows everything. They got PIs everywhere. They got sources. Sources from the sofa, let's put it that way.
[01:02:09] Speaker A: All these teams do.
[01:02:10] Speaker C: I mean, they just. Just waiting for, you know, a driver or somebody to go in somebody else's motorhome, man. And just like, it's. Let. Let.
Let all the rumors fly.
[01:02:19] Speaker B: There you go.
[01:02:22] Speaker A: Any predictions for this week?
[01:02:24] Speaker C: Man, it's been interesting where the Ferrari has been because it felt like they were going to be a lot more competitive and they, you know, to a degree they, they won the race in the British Grand Prix, but it wasn't, you know, Lewis wasn't as competitive as it was the week prior. They really need the front running and the Mercedes just seems to be. So there's a dominance to it. But then Kimi's been dominant. George hasn't qualified well, I mean, I, I think this is a Lewis race.
I think you got a Lewis, Kimi, George, podium well,
[01:03:07] Speaker B: odds on favorite to win.
[01:03:11] Speaker A: I got Kimmy first, followed by Russell, Hamilton, LeClaire, Verstappen, then Norris.
[01:03:17] Speaker B: Well, Rome, the top three you listed would be the order of finish based on odds. So you got Kimmy, Russell and Hamilton are the top three guys favorite wise to win, followed by looks like LeClaire and Verstappen. So that's your top five, odds wise.
[01:03:37] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. I just, I just don't. I think that there's Mercedes and then a half step below is the Ferraris. And when you look at overall performance, I think it's going to depend what qualifying and some of the strategy is going to be. Red Bull seems like they have the power in the engine to be competitive. It's just there's so many other goofy things going on with their cars right now. And McLaren's is kind of hit or miss.
[01:04:02] Speaker B: Yeah, we'll see what the upgrades bring. Right? You're saying they're bringing some big upgrades, McLaren. So maybe that might be something to look at. Lando PL 2500 Oscar 4100.
Yeah, I think you're gonna at least probably have Ferrari, Mercedes on the podium. At least two of those drivers for sure. It kind of seems that's pretty much a give me.
Yeah.
[01:04:23] Speaker A: What time is that at 6am Rome,
[01:04:27] Speaker B: 6am See you take a nap. European, you got the World cup one afterwards.
[01:04:35] Speaker A: Oh, busy Sunday then, huh?
[01:04:40] Speaker B: He'll be drinking Sunday for sure with the Spain, Argentina. He's gonna be a little nervous watching that one.
[01:04:44] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I don't like it when like I like two teams and they all face off each other, so it's not fun.
All right, anything else? Anything else?
F1 in the books. You guys talked about McGregor. We talked about World cup in the first half of the podcast.
Got some trades in baseball. Jason's White Sox picked up a UCLA phenom.
They're making moves, man. White Sox are making moves.
[01:05:14] Speaker C: Yeah. I mean, not only do we get ucla, top prospect Rock Chalowski also made a Trade and got an additional first round pick and got the son of former White Sox and Cleveland Guardians great Jim Tomi. Landon Tomy in the first round as well.
[01:05:35] Speaker B: Nice.
[01:05:35] Speaker C: So White Sox picked up three guys in the top 41 of that draft. So, I mean, we got some guys here. I mean, there's some building blocks for the future. Rome. Watch out.
[01:05:46] Speaker A: Not for real.
[01:05:47] Speaker B: Did you, did you watch the Home Run Derby, Jason?
[01:05:50] Speaker C: I did.
[01:05:50] Speaker B: What you think of it? I didn't watch it. So what you think of it, the new format and everything.
[01:05:54] Speaker C: I like that format better.
Swings versus time, just from a TV viewing audience, because you get to watch every home run, like when they're on the timer, like the pitcher's throwing the ball before the other one lands and you just like from a viewing perspective, you're not keeping up with what's being hit. Like, you're just watching this guy hit it. Okay, they're tracking it, but he's hitting another one. And it's just. There's a little more chaos to it. It seemed to be a better rhythm.
What I was curious was like, they had.
Similar to the NBA and the three point contest, where it's like the goal, like a golden. The golden shot or whatever, there was the, the ten of the last. The final swing they had was a different colored ball and it had like, it was like something. So I don't know. I don't know what the material on this was or like, if the red was around. It was like, is that ball? I think only like one or two of those is actually hit out.
[01:06:46] Speaker B: Okay. So it was, it wasn't juice like the old baseballs they were complaining about back.
[01:06:50] Speaker C: It didn't feel like it because I was very curious of like, once we get to this final, basically, if you hit a home run in the final swing, you. You can keep going. So it's like, okay, like if you're
[01:07:00] Speaker B: down three, that's how Jordan Walker won, right? Hit like four out in the final swings.
[01:07:06] Speaker C: Yeah, like, I don't know. It was all four in the final swings, but it was, it was like it was towards the end.
[01:07:10] Speaker B: But yeah, six out of seven or something they said.
[01:07:12] Speaker C: Yeah, something like that.
But no, it was good. I, I liked the format. There was nothing wrong with the format. I think the, the pomp and circumstance that they did was great. I think the entire all star weekend, the America 250 in Philadelphia, you know, everything that was kind of the birthplace of America and the Declaration of Independence and all the stuff they did, I think that was a really good thematic, you know, thing baseball did and made the sport a spectacle. Netflix did a good job. I'll say that. There was weird hokey things Netflix done. They like Bonds and whoever on like a lounge thing with Al Duncan on the side. They had Will Ferrell doing some crappy commentary, you know when they're doing the intros with, with Luke Wilson. So some of that stuff was weird, but other than that, I mean it was a good watch.
[01:08:04] Speaker B: Rome, are you going to touch on your Kawhi Leonard trade?
[01:08:09] Speaker A: I don't know man.
[01:08:12] Speaker C: You gotta wait till it's finalized, right? Aren't we just waiting to investigation day
[01:08:16] Speaker B: before the season starts or what you're
[01:08:18] Speaker A: avoid I will say this contract first or what?
Silver has really this up and
[01:08:28] Speaker B: I,
[01:08:29] Speaker A: I don't know if he's done a good job honestly now with the NBA. Like yeah, they got like that big old media deal but is it actually making the NBA better? It's gotten these lucrative contracts and now you got the NFL or the NBA
[01:08:42] Speaker B: PA
[01:08:45] Speaker A: saying that it's a catastrophe that people are foregoing their livelihood to make room for other players on their team. Like I'm sorry dude, if your guys make things, I don't give a. Like just because he's now he's making 57 million a year. Show the up. I think once they pass 30 million, no one cares. Now like, like I'm not gonna feel sorry for anybody not getting the bag. You have really mediocre point guards making 16 million a year, signing four year contracts. Like I could do that. You know, it's, it's, it's, it's embarrassing.
So that the second apron, right? You know how the did they come to this, right?
I know it was initially meant to protect owners that don't know how to manage their money because they can do it for business, but they don't do it for sports and they give out stupid contracts year after year. We get that it happens in all the sports, football, baseball, especially in the NBA.
But now we're having teams having to break up and you know, weird, weird trades we've never seen. It's not actually making anything better really. And then now we're going to do expansion and I'm just trying to see like how like what happened to the basket. Like, you know, like if you do good drafting your guys, there should be exceptions of keeping those guys and expanding the, you know, like maybe not as hard of a cap.
You should be punished because you do a good job at evaluating talent. Like that should not be ever A thing. So not happy with that. And then the Kawhi Leonard thing, right.
We knew about this stuff when he was leaving Toronto, like he was either gonna resign or Uncle Dennis was looking for like a little side piece.
[01:10:28] Speaker B: I'd be curious what Toronto's offering him to go back.
[01:10:31] Speaker A: It was like one of the worst kept secrets. It was on social, it was like on back channels. It was like everything was getting leaked and like that's why all the eyebrows are raised. And then all of a sudden he's going to la, right? Is he going to Lakers?
Nope. He signs the Clippers threw everybody off. All of a sudden the Thunder got thrown, you know, thrown into the mix with, with Paul George and like the way the whole thing happened is still surreal. Toronto filed a grave vents or whatever it is, saying that there's like some fishy stuff happening. That's why he left.
They just sweep it underneath the rug. And then now how long is this investigation going to go on for? It's been a long time. And Silver just came out this week, or was it yesterday or, or today, you know, it's Wednesday night. Saying like, I think yesterday or today they gotta finish the result before the season starts, right? Dude, come on, dude, it's, it's July 15th.
[01:11:25] Speaker B: Well, how. Silver kind of washed his hands and basically said a third party's handling this. I, I don't have anything to do with it. Is that basically what I've been hearing and seeing?
[01:11:32] Speaker A: That's what he's been doing for now? It should have been done in, in January.
[01:11:38] Speaker B: Handles like everything. Judge, jury, executioner.
[01:11:41] Speaker A: We thought that something was going to come out by the All Star Game because who's, who hosts the game this year? The Clippers, they could have taken it away. They could have done a whole bunch of things by then. But it's like, oh, this firm is handling it. We'll find the results. You know, we'll, we'll hear the results soon.
That was Will's All Star Game.
[01:12:00] Speaker C: February, March, February.
[01:12:02] Speaker A: Now it's, yeah, July, it's mid July and still nothing. And you have an impending trade. And then Silver comes out saying like, dude, I, I didn't say they couldn't move forward with the trade. That has nothing to do with the investigation.
So who's lying? Clippers, you know, like they have like
[01:12:18] Speaker B: this Clippers pit in the stipulation that whatever penalties the NBA hands down, if
[01:12:24] Speaker A: they can't do that.
It sounds like, dude, I mean, if
[01:12:28] Speaker B: that sounds guilty, then I don't know
[01:12:30] Speaker A: what really is sounds like, the dumbest. And you can't hand over your mistakes to someone else.
[01:12:35] Speaker B: Like, it's like if you robbed a car and you gave it to someone else, and it's like, here, this guy gave me his car. Like, oh, hey, now you get charged with robbing it. It's just the stupidest thing ever.
[01:12:43] Speaker A: It's like. It's like that story, you know, I don't know when it happened, but some guy broke into some guy's house, fell through the glass window, the window broken, and like, shattered his. His spleen. So he had to go to the hospital, almost died. And then he sues the house for the injuries.
[01:13:00] Speaker B: The.
[01:13:00] Speaker A: The house that he broke into. It's like, it's the same thing.
[01:13:03] Speaker C: That a real story or is that just from the Jim Carrey movie Liar Liar?
[01:13:07] Speaker A: No, that's a real story, but I don't. I don't remember that Jim Carrey movie. The Liar Liar actually died that night. You're screwing me up. Did that happen?
[01:13:14] Speaker B: It was.
[01:13:15] Speaker C: It was one of, like, I think the.
One of his legal. Legal assistants said or something that he did or whatever.
[01:13:21] Speaker A: All right, don't quote me on that yet. Now I gotta watch the movie, look this up.
[01:13:26] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm not surprised if somebody would do that.
[01:13:28] Speaker A: No, just, you know, the Clippers can't do that. So like Silver just said. I never said that the trade couldn't go through.
[01:13:37] Speaker B: They.
[01:13:37] Speaker A: They can do the trade. It's just investigation still going on by the beginning of the. Of the season, and it's just not a good look, man. This guy's, at the same time, he's moving forward, launching a new NBA league, which I just found out about not too long ago. Like, we're launching another NBA league in Europe by next season.
All new teams, some teams are even moving over from the European league. And this whole new NBA Europe going live, and everyone's bidding in the billions of dollars. Like, the NBA is just making so much money.
And I don't know if it was Bill Simmons or if it was like, somebody. Somebody said, like, the NBA just seems like they're doing things for business decisions and not for the sport of things.
[01:14:25] Speaker B: I would agree. I think the NBA is doing something for the bottom line, the buck, and not what's good for, say, the teams, the players and the fans from, like, value the basketball. Like, basketball, like, to me, is not like it used to be. I mean, we talked about it, obviously, like, nobody plays defense and the game has changed a lot. But, like, the passion of the players, the Energy is not really there until the playoffs. That's when I, I watched the NBA.
It's not like, I mean, every other sport seems like, you know, at least you got the players playing hard, trying hard, but the NBA seems to have lost that. You know, you, I was going to bring up with you guys too.
I mean, the NBA is capitalizing right now. The NFL is, is baseball. I know and I know we're on for a lockout. They're going to lock out obviously come December 1st for baseball, but you think we're going to miss some games of time. There's like, what, what do you think is going to happen? I mean, obviously the owners, yeah, the owners want a salary cap. I think we are going to get a salary cap. I just think it's going to be worked on. Not whatever, whatever the floor is, the ceiling is. I, I, I, something's going to come of it.
[01:15:28] Speaker A: I think what the league proposed is just too strict.
[01:15:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:15:31] Speaker A: And, and you still have competitive guys on, on the bottom half just as much as the top half. It doesn't guarantee you anything. But that's a hard cap. And there's no game plan of like how to minimize $150 million off your payroll. You know, like all these guys are, are on long term contracts, I guess.
Yeah.
Yeah. You know, so I don't think a hard cap's gonna come in. I think it'll be like a soft cap with like luxury tax penalties. I think a little more, you know, than what it is now. I think, I think there should be a floor.
Absolutely. At the very least. But you, you heard the players.
I think everyone that was like, but
[01:16:18] Speaker B: that's the rich players. I want to hear the guys that aren't making money, I want to hear their opinion.
[01:16:22] Speaker A: I think what the league proposed for, for like the league minimums and like the upgrades and arbitration, I think all those are simple yeses. I think it'll be really dub to say no to that. And honestly, nobody needs to see 15 year contracts, so I'm kind of down for that too. Six year contracts, max.
Cool. I don't give a. They're making a lot of money anyways. The only players that don't like that are the guys that are on 12, 15 year contracts because they only do well for eight of those years if, if we're lucky.
[01:16:53] Speaker C: Yeah, I, I think the league's trying to start with like what are we doing from the bottom kind of up approach. Like you talk about the floor and something they're doing with the arbitration aspects. I mean there's a lot of like, baseball's probably the one fort where there's nothing straightforward about the, like what the first seven years they're in the league, they're on like, you know, some minimum base salary, they're on arbitration. There's like, like seven years of years of control or something. You're under the team contract basically that, that you have until you go through where it's unlike anything else. And then most of the guys from baseball don't have free agency till they're maybe earliest 27, mostly like 28, 29 years old. And then like you said, Rome, that they're looking for their big money contract. And now we're talking to, oh, it's got to be an 1112 year deal. And it's like, okay, it's taking them from 28 to 40 and they're all going to be productive for the first five, six years. So I think it definitely protects against that, but it's, it's going to give less to an older player and more to a younger player. And how does that balance out? At the end of the day though, I think the biggest split is like what's going to be the revenue split? Because you can, I know there's more details and this is all negotiation stuff between the union and the owners and stuff. But what's, what's, what's the split overall? Because you can, you can however you want to distribute the money. You distribute the money. But I know it just comes to like, is it a 51, 49 split or a 50, 50 split?
[01:18:12] Speaker B: Because they're trying to go 50, 50, right? That's what they propose, the owners?
[01:18:15] Speaker C: I think so. So it's a 50, 50. That money goes to them anyway. So now we're just talking and I think maybe it's, you know, I could be wrong on this, but I think it's, it's the agents getting involved then because now the agents of specific clients are gonna be the ones big, biggest one bargain. Because if it's 50, 50 split, that means the overall unions getting 50 of the pie anyway. We're just talking about how their 50 gets divided up. And now you got the more powerful agents of the bigger time players that want their bigger slices of the pie that are going to be the ones kind of giving their spin on things. So I think baseball's probably got the, you know, they've always had the strongest players union, but I also think they have Scott, Boris and some of these powerful agencies that's behind it as well.
[01:18:52] Speaker A: Sharks dude, they got some sharks behind there.
[01:18:55] Speaker B: And they got. And they got their media rights deals stuff coming up too, right? 20, 27, I think it's coming up.
Yeah.
[01:19:02] Speaker C: I don't know how that's rolling into. Because, like, the one thing with baseball, they had all these, like, regional deals, and it was a big thing, like, over baseball's overall, like, TV package sucks. But you got all these, you know, unbalanced thing, like the Dodgers, you know, unfair advantage with their cable thing and the Yankees versus, like, you know, the Padres, who, you know, it's on like, Padres TV.com or something like that. Is it have a network?
[01:19:25] Speaker B: Isn't like a third of the teams owned by mlp, like, broadcasting rights? They basically. Yeah, they just whatever. Padres, tv, Braves. Well, network now.
[01:19:34] Speaker A: But they went under.
[01:19:35] Speaker B: Yeah. Bankrupt.
[01:19:37] Speaker C: It was the Fox Sports, you know, Bally's thing like that. So I think baseball. I think there's been a lot of things out there. They're trying to wait for all this stuff to expire to eventually get, like, they get all the rights together and bundle it.
[01:19:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:19:51] Speaker C: How that works with some of these local deals, I think is like the biggest question. Where you got Yankees, Dodgers, Mets. I think that all got these, like, their inlo, their own independent, the Red Sox, maybe with Nessen, they got some bigger brands.
But I think that's what baseball's waiting for, these things to expire. So they can bundle the package. But. And there's a lot of complexities to it. I mean, we'll have a lot of time to talk about it. Aaron. I'm scared, though, man, because baseball.
I think baseball is really hitting its stride right now. Like.
[01:20:22] Speaker A: Yeah, since.
[01:20:23] Speaker C: Since they made the rule changes. You know, obviously the Dodgers, they've had big markets. They got dynasties. There's a lot of young players in the game and making it exciting.
I think there's a lot of excitement around baseball overall. And this. This would really kill the momentum that it's been really gaining the past couple years.
[01:20:40] Speaker A: It would be catastrophic if they missed the whole season. It would put baseball back 100 years, just like the way the US lost to Belgium.
[01:20:53] Speaker B: According to.
According to that guy that knows all the World Cups. We're gonna miss two now after that one. So that's how bad it is back.
[01:21:00] Speaker A: I think we will miss some games, though. Like, what season starts what, March, right?
[01:21:05] Speaker B: Typically, yeah. Yeah.
[01:21:07] Speaker A: I think we'll start by June. I think we'll probably miss about 20 games, 20 to 30 games, shortened season.
Everything gets settled up. Maybe there's like, A. A cap. But maybe they put like at 300 million a year, right? And then after that you have to pay like a 50 tax on it. And then maybe the hard cap is.
[01:21:25] Speaker B: What is, what is the cap set at now? I forget. Was it like 2:20,140 or something like that?
[01:21:30] Speaker A: It's not hard enough.
She said, hey, Bluetooth, bro.
You plug in Bluetooth way too much, man. I. I've yet to see how one looks like.
[01:21:44] Speaker B: Sign up for enrollment.
[01:21:45] Speaker A: You want to plug in your referral link here.
You're gonna be like Charles Barkley.
[01:21:50] Speaker B: Jason had the. Jason had the link there last year going on. I don't know if it's still good or not.
[01:21:54] Speaker A: I was gonna do a Chuck, but never mind it.
[01:21:57] Speaker B: Save it for your comedy show, Romeo.
[01:22:00] Speaker A: That's too PC. I don't know. I don't know if I could do it in San Francisco. Actually.
[01:22:04] Speaker B: I'll save it for Vegas.
[01:22:07] Speaker A: I feel like I'd pretty good set up there.
All right, so NBA dude, we talked a lot on this pod. This is all. I thought it was gonna be a quick 20 minute second half.
[01:22:16] Speaker B: Hey, when the B team gets on, man, you gotta. You gotta value that air time, you know?
[01:22:21] Speaker A: If I had Sniper west on here, man, we'd be done in 20 minutes.
Every game for the whole weekend. Done.
[01:22:30] Speaker C: All right.
[01:22:31] Speaker B: We'll be shorter. You can go on a Show tomorrow at 9:30.
Plug Hamilton as your F1 winner. Courtesy of Jason.
[01:22:39] Speaker A: I'm. I'm gonna be picking up Lando, actually.
[01:22:43] Speaker B: I think McLaren could sneak. We'll see.
We'll see. We'll see what qualifying looks like.
[01:22:47] Speaker A: Everything's on qualifying. Yeah.
[01:22:50] Speaker B: Practice run. Free practice.
You want. You watch all that stuff too, Jason, or you just watch the main race?
[01:22:57] Speaker C: I usually don't watch P1, P2, but usually on Saturdays I'll probably watch P3 usually.
[01:23:05] Speaker B: Definitely qualify the replay.
[01:23:07] Speaker A: Or do you get up?
[01:23:09] Speaker C: I will. It depends what it is.
[01:23:12] Speaker A: You know, Andrew, qualifying is usually a little later.
[01:23:14] Speaker C: So usually I.
[01:23:15] Speaker B: If I just do qualifying three is usually kind of. Qualifying is a little later. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:23:21] Speaker A: Andrew's getting sprint week drunk during practice sessions.
[01:23:25] Speaker B: I don't think Andrew sleeps Rome.
[01:23:27] Speaker A: Like, I just don't believe it.
[01:23:28] Speaker B: Like, I think he's slept on his. I think he's got a coffee mug with an IPA in it right now. I'm willing to bet at 11 he's
[01:23:33] Speaker A: reminding me over, like, hey, you want to come over and watch F1? Like it's. It's on Sunday. Yeah, he's Like, Yeah, but they're practicing now. I got. I got a 12 pack.
[01:23:41] Speaker C: Maybe he just lives on British summertime.
He's just. Like. He's just on a different. Like, wasn't he.
[01:23:46] Speaker B: Wasn't he trying to learn Spanish so he could go to Spain? What was he. What was he doing last year? Roman. He was going to school for something. What was he doing? I can't remember.
[01:23:53] Speaker A: I forgot about that.
God.
[01:23:56] Speaker C: Because the British Grand Prix, Aaron, was. Was rough because you had you. The sprint weekend. Sprint weekends are rough because, like, okay, you get. You got. Yeah, you got two qualifying sessions and two races. And so you're trying to be like, ah, I gotta catch this qualifying on Friday. And then, by the way,
[01:24:13] Speaker A: last time I missed it
[01:24:18] Speaker B: on Hamilton, right?
[01:24:19] Speaker C: Hamilton had the pole. Hamilton had the pole. He lost it to Kimi.
[01:24:22] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:24:23] Speaker C: Kimi passed him, like, at, like, the 10th lap or something.
[01:24:26] Speaker A: I just forgot to look it up or. I never saw any updates. Jesus. We covered a lot of ground.
Anything else? Final comments?
Okay, that'll do it, then.
Two hours in the books, basically, was this two hours?
I don't know, actually.
[01:24:46] Speaker B: I don't even remember telling me. Jumped on.
[01:24:48] Speaker A: Don't know. I actually have a timer.
No. Hour and 40 almost. So that's bad.
[01:24:54] Speaker B: Yeah, typical movie.
[01:24:57] Speaker A: All right, now, so Aaron gots Argentina.
Jason got Spain, I got Spain and maybe Argentina at the end.
[01:25:09] Speaker B: All right, so I got Argentina plus one. That's my best bet for the weekend for that one.
[01:25:12] Speaker C: Basically, Rome's taking, like, the draw and it doesn't exist in a final or what.
[01:25:18] Speaker A: Yeah, I'll probably tweet about it. I've been pretty active on X.
[01:25:23] Speaker B: So not under the Raj account, but under your own personal account. Right?
[01:25:28] Speaker A: Own personal account.
[01:25:30] Speaker B: Raj is still in a coma.
[01:25:31] Speaker A: From what I heard, Raj only comes
[01:25:34] Speaker C: out in football season. He's the only football guy.
[01:25:37] Speaker A: Maybe we should make a Raj account. Actually, that'd be good.
[01:25:42] Speaker B: Raj.
[01:25:44] Speaker A: All right, Curry, we'll recap World cup after the finals. So maybe a Sunday night pod.
[01:25:53] Speaker C: Hey, you say Sunday every week and never come through Rome, but I'm always game.
[01:25:59] Speaker A: I wanted to this past week, but I was all right.
[01:26:01] Speaker B: Got his daughter. When he has his daughter, he can never count on a pod.
[01:26:04] Speaker A: I had my daughter. We were watching Ninja Turtles, like the cartoon when they came out. It's a really good remake, by the way. Like, really well, well done. With all the, like, the new kid sayings, all that I approve.
I found out because I'll scratch my friends Justin's and Elite. Lisa Viejo, he has Amazon Prime. I was like, wait a minute. Hbo, like game, you know, House of Dragons. House of the Dragons. What's this?
Click on it. Found out he has an HBO account.
I watched Daughter knocked Out, Passed out on top of me on the couch. I'm like, you know, I'm just gonna sneak one episode in.
Saw the first episode. It's like 10:30 and I'm pretty fucking exhausted. But it's House of Dragons, dude. Who can actually just watch one episode?
I ended up watching four episodes that night. Stay up to like 2:30 in the morning.
Deadbeat, tired, driving on the way back the next day. So I'm caught up. I would like to do a House of Dragons pod now.
[01:27:03] Speaker C: Okay. I mean, I said, I mean, when you said you wanted to record Sunday night that I'm watching House of the Dragon. So
[01:27:10] Speaker A: do we have to like go back to like season one to start the House of Dragons podcast?
[01:27:17] Speaker C: Probably.
You're a little late to the ball game to start the House of Dragons pot. I think you're just gonna throw this into the end of this pod, you know?
[01:27:24] Speaker B: Oh, man.
[01:27:24] Speaker A: It was so. It was good, but kind of. I don't know, dude, this season, really good.
[01:27:30] Speaker C: The first season.
[01:27:32] Speaker A: I like the first season.
[01:27:34] Speaker C: I do. But it's rushed.
[01:27:36] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:27:36] Speaker C: It's skipping. It's skipping a lot of years.
[01:27:38] Speaker A: It did. It did actually. Yeah.
[01:27:40] Speaker C: And the second season was like anti climatic. And then we just like third season starts with a bang.
[01:27:47] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
Yes. That's what happened. Anyways, yeah, Sunday night, let's see if we can do a pod. That'd be great.
[01:27:58] Speaker B: All right.
[01:27:59] Speaker C: You let us know.
[01:28:00] Speaker A: All right, I'll do it. We are out.
